Solid local golf course (for the price). The golf course has a good layout. But the conditions aren't always great. The grass can be inconsistent in length, and there are holes where the ground can get swampy or rock hard depending on the weather. The golf carts have maps & GPS. So that's awesome. Good driving range w $3 buckets. Clubhouse has a good beer & drink collection, good little kitchen. Lounge area & shop are good too. All around, if you just want an inexpensive place to hit the range or play a round, it's a good option. Especially considering it's one of 2 public courses in the county. read more

Nice, local hometown public golf course with some ground works and lots of gopher holes but with exceptional scenic tree lined fairways and small ponds dotted all across the undulating long course meandering under the flight paths of Arcata Municipal Airport with infrequent Delta Jets and several propeller planes! The practice range ball machine takes credit cards and programmed to give out small, medium and large balls for $3-9, that is a bargain! I definitely recommend this place! I do love the course. I have played it seasonally for the last few years. Today is the worst condition I have ever found the course in. It was in sad shape---lots of dead, unattended grass and very shotty greens. Sad for such a beautiful, lush location. read more

Disc Golf Review: I'm really happy that locals are sponsoring/maintaining 18 tee pads and baskets. The charge to play is $5 and carts go for $10. Disc golfers are allowed on the Golf course after noon. First, the course has great trees, long greens (par 5 in DG world), streams and lakes. Some HUGE downhill throws. Because of the greens, it's a rollers dream course. Add that you can rent carts, so there's no long hikes, this place is like a Disc Golf resort. Price is totally reasonable. I don't want to say cheap. They'd probably raise the price. And there's a lot people up here poorer than me. So that'd suck. I'm sober from booze. But they got a bar, which is also rare for a disc golf game. The Ball golf players are not a big concern. The course is laid out that so far I haven't had to dodge a ball. Hope this course stays. I'd imagine in years to come they could get major events here. A photographer would have a hard time taking a bad photo. For me, the front and back side of the course have very memorable holes. Great views and open downhill throws that pump up my ego. Ha! In general the course design is a mix of challenging and easy open drives. Love it. read more

Great local community golf course located just off the 101 in northern Humboldt county California. Take the airport road exit and follow the signs back around behind the airport. An 18 hole championship course with pro shop, driving range and cafe - nineteenth hole. This small community course in Mckinleyville has reasonable green fees as well as discounted fees available online through their mailing list and website. Daily green fee specials and twilight rates. Driving range has open mats and grass, as well as covered area for inclement weather. This is also the practice course for all of the schools in the area, so afternoons can be a little hectic if you're looking for peace and quite while playing or practicing - this may not be the time for you. This course is rough , greens are trashed 1 out of 4 holes seem to get watered. Gophers own 90percent of the real estate. At one time this place used to be decent. Leave the golf clubs at home , this is only a disc golf worthy course anymore! read more

Very interesting golf course. We played early in the morning on a weekday. The course was extremely wet and they still had the sprinklers going. One tee box was closed off and a temporary tee was in play. The greens were freshly fertilized and were not cut. The greens are in horrible condition. With all the water they put on them you would think the greens would be perfect. They were not. Fairways drowning in water and haven't been mowed for a while. Pro shop is great and had everything you would need. The snack bar - don't bother. The lady attendant is a crab. It took 30 minutes to get a breakfast sandwich between 9's. And it was terrible! Coffee was delicious and the store bought muffin was ok.speed up the service will ya! read more

Over the summer I held a membership at this course and can honestly say that I have improved quite a bit as a result of regularly playing this course. Great shot values and the narrowness forces you to dial in your accuracy and manage your game around the course. I think that the other reviewer (A M.) needs to remember that this course is a bargain and he lives in Humboldt County (not the best climate for growing grass). I agree that Baywood is a better course but it also does not have the value of Beau Pre. The layout of the course is great -- lots of fun holes and the elevated tees at the driving range are fun (and you can actually hit your driver at the range... try this at Baywood and it won't be pretty). The fairways are lusher in the spring and late fall and like all other courses in Humboldt the winter is rough. Anyway, for the money I feel like it is a great value and Mckinnleyville is lucky to have a course this nice. read more

This course is a joke! The sad part is that it wouldn't even be that bad if the owner gave a damn. When I first started playing here several years ago back when they still tried, it was a descent public course now they don't even bother to cut a fairway it's like playing golf in an unkempt backyard. This may not be the most groomed, most challenging, or most prestigious golf venue you'll ever find, but I give it a hearty 5 stars for both its overall value and its total happiness factor. If you're looking for a TPC course or pretentious country club, you can stop reading. If, on the other hand, you enjoy a casual round of golf at a reasonable price on a decent, fun, and challenging course, Beau Pre is your local choice. (Oh, and they also offer an 18-hole disc golf course!) Previous reviews pretty well depict the ease of access and describe the course details, so I won't spend time on those. I'd like to focus on three things I personally appreciate about Beau Pre: 1) The casual, unpretentious atmosphere and very friendly and helpful staff in every area -- management, pro shop, and restaurant. For such a small club, there are three excellent teaching pros, each with something unique to share at very reasonable lesson rates. 2) Reasonable membership rates, which can be paid annually or monthly. Recently, they have also been offering a special first-year cash incentive to join for less than half the usual first year fees. So ask 'em about that if you think you might like to join. There are no special requirements to spend a certain amount in the pro shop or restaurant every month, and no assessments. Just unlimited golf. 3) One of the best restaurants in McKinleyville, believe it or not! Nothing fancy or showy, just excellent quality diner-style meals at very reasonable prices. Sandwiches, soups, burgers, dogs, and more, as well as sumptuous and hearty salads, great breakfasts, and daily specials. There's a good selection of regional micro and craft beers on tap ($4/pint), as well as bottled options. One of the very best things going on in the restaurant right now is Taco Time Happy Hour every Friday from 4-7 pm, when Hispanic cook Marcella makes her authentic, homemade fish and carnitas tacos (sometimes carne asada, too!) for just $2 each! All drinks are also 2$. I've lived in Humboldt 25 years, and I have my Mexican food favorites, but believe me, these are the BEST tacos around! Sometimes the weather can shut things down early at golf courses (or all together for the season--NO!), so if the weather looks iffy, you might want to call a day or so ahead to let them know you'd like to show up for Taco Time. Hopefully, these tacos will be around on Fridays all winter long and for a long, long time after! Sure, winter rains can make Beau Pre's fairways soggy, and summer drought can sometimes bake them, but I still feel Beau Pre is a local gem for a fun round of golf. And even if you don't golf, I'd encourage you to check out Beau Pre for a good meal and a cool one anytime. read more

Probably the worst golf experience I've personally ever had because of the awful maintenance. It felt like the course was not as much a golf course, but more like the remnants of an abandoned backyard. The greens were the only decent part of the course. On some tee boxes, you couldn't even stick your tee in because it was all hard dirt. Others had long grass with flowers all over it. Awful course for the price. Really frustrating if you're a decent golfer who actually can consistently strike the ball well. Staff was friendly. Driving range was a dive, the mats were not even flat, they had dips. I do not recommend this at all, golf is fun, one of my favorite aspects of life, but I did not enjoy this. read more

I don't know what that reviewer "A.M." is talking about. Beau Pre is a fine little course, and is a gathering place for lots of happy and competitive golfers. Baywood might have greener fairways at times, but the course at Beau Pre is interesting and challenging, and the rates are extremely reasonable, whereas Baywood is definitely overpriced for what you get. Also, the Beau Pre staff is top notch. We've been members at Beau Pre for more than 10 years, and have played Baywood plenty of times... Beau Pre is a way better choice for membership. read more

not sure you can beat this course. ive never gotten the chance to play the private course in arcata but I hear that its great too. play the twilight rates and its even better. a hot dog and a beer at the turn make it a perfect day. read more
