Dr. Erin and Dr. Stevenson are each so wonderful, as is everyone we've interacted with on staff. Our cat has been a patient for a few years now. We were delighted to find a vet clinic that was so cat-centric. I have been bringing my 15 y.o. kitty here for two years now and have nothing but praise for the DVMs and staff.

Long story short - Bear Valley charged me for lab work that I did not get and won't refund the portion of the lab work that was not performed. I went in for a routine check up on my cats and urinalysis was part of the checkup. They were unable to get urine from my cat during the visit so they told me at my appointment to either try to get urine myself at home or to bring her back in for a free nurse visit to get urine. They did not tell me at my appointment was that I needed to get her the rabies vaccine in order for me to bring her back for the urinalysis. I declined the vaccine as she is an indoor cat and there would be and will not be any exposure to rabies. I found this out when I tried to call and get the nurse appointment for the urinalysis. Ok, so I can't bring her in that is fine, but I asked for a refund for the urinalysis, but they will not provide me with a refund because it's a package for the labs however they can easily find out how much just urinalysis costs and just give me that portion refunded. They have also canceled my cats as patients even though I never asked them to do that nor was I informed about this until I called them about the refund. Other things of note is that they aren't that organized nor did I feel like they were that great of a clinic to begin with. I thought I would give them another shot, so that is why I went a second time. The actual vet's bedside manner was very cold and with a sense of not caring about my cats' wellbeing. On my first visit I provided pictures of my cats yet they still mixed up their medical records which took me calling a couple times to have them fix it. How do you do that when you have the pictures of the cats? Lastly they seem very overpriced and I am coming from San Francisco and Bear Valley's prices for things were even more than sf. read more

The clinic has experienced significant staff turnover and frequent misinformation. I ceased using their services after they overcharged me for two shots, mistakenly administering one meant for a 20-pound puppy and trying to make me pay for their error. Although they eventually corrected the mistake, it was a frustrating process as the staff initially tried to convince me the cost was the same until I showed them my previous invoice, exposing their error. A few months ago, I was contacted regarding my dog being due for vaccines. When I called back to schedule an appointment, I was informed that an exam was also required in order to get shots and that I couldn't just get shots with a tech, despite having paid for the lifetime shots fee. I then canceled the request to make an appointment and it was later admitted that I had been misinformed by a gentleman that used to work there and so I told him I would call back when I the rabies vaccine was due to get everything done at once. Fast forward to today, they are now claiming that I need to pay for an exam plus the vaccines because I had missed the last annual exam, stating that the lifetime shots are only valid if you attend all exams and that it would be reinstated if I pay the exam and all vaccines again. I requested to see the contract outlining this policy but was told it couldn't be found immediately. When I asked to speak to the practice manager, she called me back just before leaving for the day, avoiding a conversation. I again asked for the contract from the front desk and she said their system takes a while to send things. I just wanted a confirmation that they will be able to send it today and then the person chuckled when I inquired about receiving the contract today, and responded with "or we will get it to you tomorrow." Seems like they likely never had the information communicated to me and are now scrambling to try and put something together. read more

Our pup goes here when travel and wow...they are the BEST care. They treat Porter like he's one of theirs..walks, treats, play time, and baths..he is always having the time of his life. He comes back happy and tired, which is exactly what we want. Matt is so good to him, as is all the staff we've encountered. Their location is clean and well set up. Anyone still remember the Savings and Loan building on Sheridan just south of Jewell? It was empty for years but is now a top notch veterinary practice. Dr. Stevenson and her superb staff provide excellent veterinary care AND offer worry free boarding. Her staff always present a welcoming arrival and are kind, responsive, empathetic and clearly love animals. I would urge great caution in bringing your pets, especially your cats, to this vet. In the examination room that they have designated for cats, the entire ceiling is open and numerous cats have crawled up into the attic. for whatever reason they have decided not to fix the ceiling to simply allow this to be a secure room. Our cat was stuck in the attic for over 24 hours. The front desk person told me that this has happened on numerous occasions. after we did finally come and retrieve our cat there really didn't seem to be much care or concerned that this it happened. Additionally, we brought our cat there for vaccinations in preparation for spaying. we thought that there was a good chance that she might be pregnant based on numerous physical changes to her. The person examining her did a very quick check and said we can't tell anything. six days later our cat had five kittens. Doesn't seem like it was all that thorough of an exam if a "professional" can't identify that a cat was very pregnant. Alll of this speaks to a general lack of care and focus on profit versus customer and patient care. read more

We recently left our longtime vet after an issue with our 12 & 1/2 year old baby that we lost due to diabetic ketoacidosis. After looking at reviews on Yelp I decided this was the best place to bring our new puppy and our other 7 year old rescue. The facility is very nice, very clean, and the staff are all wonderful and truly care about your dogs! We first had Dr. Chawla and then Dr. Stevenson, both were great! They took the time to explain things, answer my questions and were great with the puppy. Overall I'm super happy so far and I highly recommend them! I don't just trust anyone with my furbabies. Private parking lot included. Our first visit here was absolutely a breath of fresh air! We had rescued our kitty from the Denver Animal Shelter and they gave us a helpful sheet of local veterinarians and we just went with the closest one to our home. Immediately when we walked in we were greeted with warm smiles and they went ahead and put us into a room very quickly. Ponyo did so good with the technician as well as the doctor whom helped us. They were also so kind to give us goodies to take home for Ponyo! She got a new food/water bowl a bag of treats, a bag of dry cat food, pens, and other informational cards. I've been taking my 14yr old lab here and she's treated really well. The staff has gone out of their way to make sure she's comfortable; extra pats to blankets on the ground for her to lay on. Dr. Stevenson has been wonderful and so detailed in my dogs care. She is very prompt to follow up with test results and answer any questions (sometimes before I can even ask). She doesn't try to guilt you into spending a ton of unnecessary money. She always provides options for treatment plans and helps me understand everything. They have always gone above and beyond with taking care of our furbaby during the visit and they always call a day or two after to check up. We took two of our dogs here more than once and it was great until the vet tech told me that things would be covered without even checking my plan or help me find out what might be covered. She told me nationwide covered DNA testing and they 100% DO NOT and they were just rambling off things that our dogs needed with no explanation. Then they took more than a week to call us back and when I called she said she had a "note to call us". And yes I have called nationwide but when a PROFESSIONAL is telling me it will be covered, then that's not cool. So we have a 1300$ vet bill so thanks bear valley for that. After paying for a entire consultation, blood work, teeth cleaning and a small cist removed at the previous vet, I found out that the vaccine that was expired for my pet and was supposed to be given on that procedure was not. I had a emergency travel and no one would accept him for boarding without it, I call them, explained the situation on a Saturday when everyone was booked around, the made the effort in accommodating 'us'. They even stayed after business hours waiting since was a emergency. The entire staff was amazed, I even got a estimate for nodder him, I need to do it and found super over priced around. If I could've given 0 stars I would've. I don't know if they've improved they're scheduling, but I had a very difficult time after I had to reschedule multiple times. I was honest with the staff that I might have to reschedule. They're scheduling system was inaccurate about tracking my true appointment. Carola Stevenson tried to force me to show up for an appointment that didn't exist. She wouldn't admit it was a problem they need to fix with their scheduling system. On top of the conflict, I was no longer comfortable bringing my dogs there anymore. Stevenson refuses to refund a $400 gift card I had purchased. The treatment here and by Carola after purchasing the lifetime vaccinations was that I was the one who was lucky to get to bring my dog here. I frequently received past due reminders, even though my dog didn't need the services I kept my schedule appointments and canceled them with plenty of notice, yet was treated as if I didn't. Your system was not accurate when all of this occurred. If you haven't fixed it yet, then I suggested you fix it. I was not charged missed appointment fees because I didn't miss appointments. You purposely haven't seen my dogs for a while nor will you again. I will not be returning. I posted this to make others aware of how Bear Valley Vet treats its customers.
