Spent a weekend tent camping here in August 2018. First time at this campground. I would not recommend it. Firstly, the owner Ryan, is a surly creep. We encountered him a few times in the store, which is also where you check in. No smiles, grumpy rude attitude. Come on, who wants to deal with that on their vacation!?! My 10 year old son went into the store with a couple of other kids one afternoon. He reported to me that Ryan told them to get out of there and apparently insinuated that they were there to steal stuff. At the time of reserverving our site, I was told they only had 2 sites available- which were waaaaay in the back of the property, far from decent bathrooms. The whole weekend I saw a bunch of prime sites up front were unoccupied. I inquired about this and was told they were NOT full that weekend, however they stick you in the back if you have a tent. BUT, you can ask if something better is available when you check in. Wish I had known, or been informed of this. But as mentioned, our check in experience was not good. The restaurant is cute and the food was ok. Fish fry was pretty good. However, we received unfriendly service and waited forever to get our food. A couple sat next to us after we were seated, the waitress tended to them first. Then she disappeared, came back to their table about 45 mins later, profusely apologizing for the wait. Didn't even acknowledge our wait. I got the feeling that we were being snubbed for having kids there and not being local regulars. Very off-putting! Additionally, they apparently frequently reserve the restaurant for private parties and close it for the campers. It's right on the beach area and contains the bathroom. The beach was quite small but nice enough. I was looking forward to the outdoor tiki bar, but was irritated to see large signs stating that bringing your own drinks to the beach area is prohibited because they want to force you to buy their drinks. Not cool at a campground, in my opinion. The lake is extremely shallow. And it's a small lake. So kids were going way out, to the point where I was afraid that they'd be in the path of boats, and water was not even up to their waists. No roped off swim area. There were a lot of trashy people boozing it up and a few loud drunks yelling/cackling way past midnight. There is no privacy on the sites, but that may be common at private campgrounds, as they apparently cater to RVs. Guess we will stick to the state parks from now on. read more
