the third leg of "tales from UT: a dry wedding adventure" begins in the woods ... literally. in fact, we had to cross a canyon as well as a forrest 11PM at night - 1AM eastern time - to get there. no, the drive was not pleasant courtesy of my popping ears, but it certainly was pretty. because of that gorgeous view, i was definitely looking forward to my morning run near the lake. 8:30AM i willingly woke up slightly refreshed. (the bride slept in the bunk below me - that's right, there were BUNK beds and i slept on the top! - and was happily jumping around at the ungodly hour of 7AM.) i put on some work-out clothes, laced-up my sneakers and hooked-up my ipod, eager to begin my run. i remember walking down the stony hill, waving hello to the neighbors* and breathing in the cool utah-ian air. once i hit the sidewalk, i walked for about two more minutes and then broke into a run. i remember thinking, "geeeee, i wonder how long i'm gonna do this for," and, at that precise moment, i tripped on a small rock, my ankle went sideways and down i went. two cyclists found me and the sheriff took me home. it was quite the scandal in bear lake. fuck my life. it had to be karma - six years ago, my bro took a step aerobics class with me and when he fell off his bench, i turned around, pointed and laughed. for a good five minutes. yes, i was cripple, wore a brace down the aisle and continue to ice my ankle as we speak. if i had only sprained it in a cool way like walking on water (hey, jesus!), sky diving and/or tripping on a BIG rock. bottom line - 0 stars for the shitty little rock that sealed my fate but four stars for the gorgeous lodging i enjoyed when stuck in the cabin the remainder of the day. * - EVERYONE says hello to everyone else in UT. it was quite unnerving.

We visited expecting a simple soak, but it turned into one of the most relaxing and memorable stops on our trip. The setting alone is incredible--nestled along the Bear River with canyon views that make you feel completely removed from everything. The mineral pools are natural and range in temperature, so you can move around and find your perfect spot. The water is rich in minerals and feels amazing, especially after a long day of exploring. What really stood out was how intentional the whole experience is. They limit the number of guests and require reservations, so it never feels crowded or chaotic--just calm, quiet, and honestly kind of magical. We also loved that you can turn it into more than just a quick visit. Between the camping, yurts, and cabins, it's easy to stay overnight and fully unplug in nature. Overall, Maple Grove feels like a hidden wellness retreat rather than just a hot spring. If you're looking to relax, recharge, and soak in some of Idaho's best scenery, this place absolutely delivers. Check out our video on our socials @reessroots

The last time was…read moreseveral weeks ago in July 2021, and sadly we were really disappointed by the lack of upkeep this time. The previous owner was wonderful, but the property was purchased by a management company and they didn't seem to care about issues that we had--maybe because our reservation was made before their purchase? When we arrived several toilets and sinks were clogged, one ceiling fan upstairs didn't work, and there were bat droppings all over the porch and the outdoor furniture. The sprinklers in the playground lawn were left on for several hours each morning so that area was always a mud pit, and a broken log porch swing was just left on the lawn. A company representative seemed sympathetic on phone calls (the 1st and 2nd nights of our stay), but the only thing that was ever addressed was when a plumber came (on the 3rd evening during dinner) and fixed some of the plumbing problems, then never came back to finish. We swept up the bat droppings ourselves and disinfected the chairs. The rep never checked back to see if any problems were resolved. After we sent an email we were told that the company will be renovating the property, so maybe then they will take better care of it, but I'm afraid the personal touch is gone.

We just finished a four-day family reunion where we rented the entire facility (now there is only one lodge--the lodge with the pool has different owners now and we didn't miss it.) The set up is fantastic so that families naturally and easily gather around the tether ball and volleyball courts. There is a large, well-maintained grassy yard in the middle of the RV and tent areas. The lodge has an excellent, large assembly room for gatherings. We used it almost every night. There is a well-stocked kitchen that we all shared. Denise (the owner and manager) couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating to our large group. When cousins kept adding at the last minute, she let us get creative with sleeping arrangements. There is a large loft that the younger cousins used every night. They loved sleeping in a big group. Denise helped us with all the logistics of floating down the Bear River. It was one of the many highlights of a great reunion. She is kind and attentive to her guests. We are all agreed that this is one of the absolute best places for families to gather without going broke.

We booked a room upstairs and downstairs and both were incredibly comfortable. I'm really picky about mattresses and a horrible clean freak and everything passed the test. The grounds are peaceful and quiet and the snow was so beautiful. I highly recommend booking your stay here. It's worth every penny.

Wow pretty much sums up our stay at The Valley House inn!!!!!…read more My wife and I were on a 3 week motorcycle trip through the Pacific Northwest. We left Teton Village to Huntsville a day earlier than expected but we did not realize that until we arrived at The Valley Inn. Rachel the owner/host greeted us at the door and was surprised to see us a day early. My wife and I were surprised as well. Rachel took charge and accommodated us. Rachel was extremely attentive to our needs and showed us around the place and some of its history. The Valley Inn is a beautiful historical house that has been well maintained. Both inside and out of the house was beautiful. Although the online photos of the place are amazing they just don't give it enough credit. There are laundry facilities on site that cane in handy for us since we were traveling by motorcycle. There is a kitchen, dining room and living room that we had access to as well as the beautiful front, side and backyard. Don't forget to check out the garden and mural. We stayed in the Log Haven room. My wife and I loved the logs room. This room has an incredible bathtub with jets. It's like a little jacuzzi. You can imagine after riding all day how inviting this was. It was very relaxing. The room had all the amenities. My wife is very particular about places and she loved the room and house and Rachel. Our first full day Rachel invited my wife and I to go on a boat trip with her friends. Rachel made the most tasty egg sandwiches. You will have to ask her for the recipe. We met up with her friends and they were great people. We had an outstanding day on the Pine View Reservoir which is a 5 minute walk from The Valley House Inn. The breakfast is a lot of good tasty food. Eggs and potatoes with some vegetables mixed in from the garden. Nice thick bacon slices with sausage. Then she tops it off with awesome waffles with a sprinkle of powder sugar. I love to eat and I eat a lot but even this was a big meal for me. The Log Haven Room has a small dining room that overlooks the from of the house a relaxing view of the neighborhood and nature. My wife and I jumped on bicycles that Rachel provided us and rode around the small town. We stopped to look at some horses in neighbors yards, mailed some postcards off at the Post Office, checked out the American Legion then rode to Pineview Reservoir when we relaxed on a bench. I can't say enough nice things about Rachel and friendly staff at The Valley Inn. Rachel knows and understands her clients needs and really takes charge. With that said my wife and I got to help her in the kitchen. Rachel did not ask but was awesome enough to allow us to help out. I actually picked this place to surprise my wife and I definitely scored some major points. All in all I would say that this was the best experience and most beautiful and relaxing place on our 3 week 4000 miles motorcycle ride through 6 states. You have got to experience this place either if your traveling through, a retreat from a fast paced environment or want to spend time with a significant other. This is definitely a place you should check out. Well worth time and you will not be disappointed. P.S I will be posting more photos when I get more.
