It is an interactive piece that changes shapes in the wind. This steel sculpture, was built in 2018, sits 14 feet high and is perched on a 3 foot cement base. It is the work of Anthony Howe, who named the piece based off the circular shape of each element and the overall circular form. It was not much wind blowing while I was there, but with the little bit of wind blowing, the kinetic sculpture was doing its thing. I was amazed by this sculpture. It was mesmerizing, with the moving pieces and the sun reflecting off of the steel. It is definitely a must see. There is metered street parking within a short walk of this sculpture. There is also a commercial lot across the street. As with most sculpture that I have visited and reviewed, this is probably not a very long stop, even though the kinetic part may keep your attention longer than the average. I was there less than 10 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other wonderful public art and murals in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip. So when I found…read moreout that a new 14' piece was recently added in Broad Ripple, I made a beeline to the corner where Westfield Blvd angles north in the village. The shiny metal piece has a central curved column that supports a wheel of curved metal pieces with metal circles on each end of the pieces. Ideally, those will catch the wind and sunshine and make for a spectacular image. Sadly, by the time I got there, both the sun and wind were not cooperating. But in my imagination, I can see that this is going to be a very cool addition to the neighborhood (just east of Bungalows and north of Brugge.) This is a tall sculpture located in the center of a Carmel roundabout. I saw it both during the day…read moreand the night and in my opinion, it is far more impressive at night than during the day. This piece stands 42 feet high, and is made of aluminum and steel. It is the work of Arlon Bayliss, who created the piece in 2019. It depicts 3 roses towering over the roundabout. It is very detailed and looks very realistic. I love the pink pedals and how they look like they are made of some type of sheer material. The sculpture also includes gold stems and silver leaves, wrapped in a ribbon. It is illuminated at night and looks amazing. It is rumored that if you look closely at the sculpture, you may find a bumblebee hidden among the flower petals. There are a few parking lots off of the roundabout that you can pull into, park, and get out to take a closer look. That is what I ended up doing. Just be carful doing so, as it is a very active roundabout. This is obviously not a destination piece or a long stop, but if you are in the area and near by, then it may be worthy of a quick visit. As with most sculptures (especially those located on roundabouts) that I visit, this was not a long stop. I was there about 5 minutes and I was out. I came across the sculpture by chance, driving to an appointment. I recommend making this part of a larger itinerary or a stop on your way somewhere else.

The shining steel roses rise above the lawn a towering 42' and are wrapped in a ribbon. According to the artist's statement, he hopes that the roses add beauty as well as bring Grace, Love, and Joy to the hearts of those who see it. P.S. There is a little surprise built into the sculpture that is hidden "in plain sight". If you like this installation, you can see another of Bayliss' work at 96th and Westfield Blvd (Beacon Bloom) in Carmel and another at the north end of Main Street in Speedway (Seeds of Light). I pass this mural all the time. I order from ClusterTruck on occasion when I am in a mood to…read moresplurge. They do have some good food, but after all the fees are added on, it a bit pricey. This mural is the work of Pamela Bliss, a talented local artist that has tons of murals all over the city. I really like her works. She brought to life a design made by Phanomen Design. The mural is on the side of the ClusterTruck building that overlooks their parking lot, which is usually full of cars waiting to pick up peoples orders. There are a few places to park near the mural. You could park in the lot, but I would not recommend it because it is so busy. There is metered street parking nearby and a few spots outside of the parking lot to park, jump out real quick and take a closer look. That is what I did. The mural is 3D and depicts the ClusterTruck logo being shot in the air like the bat signal upon a background of cinderblocks that look as if they have fallen down or not been completed. behind the cinderblocks, in the spots that they are missing, cityscape are peaking through. In the cityscape's sky, you will see some abstract winged trucks of different colors, dropping what looks like abstract food with a parachute. I like this mural. It and its 3D effect works for me. It is very detailed and an excellent marketing display for ClusterTruck. As with most murals I have visited and reviewed, this is not a very long stop. I was there less than 3 minutes. You may want to consider planning out additional stops or making it part of a larger itinerary, to maximize your time and trip. My family and I who were in town from Lousiville for my daughters cheer comp had just dined in broad ripple for supper when we decided to Chris out the areas massive and vibrant public art pieces. We found this piece near a rear public parking area along with 3 other pieces that share adjoins walls to it. All three pieces were great and cool to see just like much of the broad ripple neighborhood. Overall very cool and fun piece and a nice tribute to the celebrity known as bjork.

This mural is painted on the back Indy CD & Vinyl and is the work of Martin Kuntz. He painted the…read morepiece in late 2021, so it is relatively new and is in great shape. Amazingly it only took him 2 days to paint, which was his birthday gift to himself. It is a very nice mural that depicts Bjork with blue paint around her eyes singing into a microphone. It is very detailed and actually looks like a real photograph. It is very colorful with various color rays coming from the singer face against a contrasting black background. The mural is inspired by an image of Bjork from a 2005 documentary about Icelandic rockers, where she is seen belting into the microphone. It overlooks a little alleyway and looks like it is an outdoor employee break area telling by the picnic table that sits in front of it. I am not very familiar with Bjork, but I have heard of her. All I know is that she is a very eccentric singer from Iceland. Kind of a free spirit type. In 2019, she had a successful surgery to remove a vocal cord polyp. Even with my limited knowledge of the Singer, I really like the mural for its artistic visual and the talent that Kuntz displays. He is awesome and does great work beautifying the city, one mural at a time. I wish I could give it an extra star. FYI, there is metered street parking in front of the business that the mural is located and within a short walk. Or you can just pull into the alley that the mural is overlooks and park there to get a closer look. That is what I did. My family and I on a weekend trip from louisville was dining in the area when we decided to explore the local art in Thai vibrant area. As soon as you cross another public art piece called rainbow bridge you look up and can't miss this fun little piece for the area. Proudly boasting of you are open then they are as well. A perfect Motto for a vibrant little neighborhood such as itself. Overall a very fun and cool photo op and a very fitting slogan for This town.

This is a nice 3D mural that welcomes visitors as they cross over the world famous Rainbow bridge…read moreleaving the Art District towards the Business District, the heart of Broad Ripple Village. It is located on the side of the Red Room Night Club. The mural incorporates the areas seal and motto and depicts a white shopping bag with the words "Broad Ripple Village" on it in a decorative/artsy font (the Broad Ripple Seal). The bag has thin pink hand straps on each side. Coming out of the top of the box you will find a row of house in broad ripple architectural style. Above the row of house are items that are significant to the area including a flower, a guitar with a musical note, a steaming hot coffee cup, a bottle of wine, and a paint brush. This houses and the significant objects are divided by a banner that reads "we're open if you are" (Broad Ripple's motto). This motto has a dual meaning. It refers to the bustling nightlife the are has to offer, with the bars closing at 3AM. It also refers to the areas diversity and open mindedness. Is it by coincidence that the mural faces the Rainbow Bridge, a beacon of the area's inclusiveness. The mural overlooks a small commercial parking lot, so parking to get a closer look is easy. There are also metered parking spots within a short walk that you can park as well. The third option is to view the mural from the comfort of your vehicle, doing a safe and strategic slow rolling drive-by. However, for this to work, you will have to approach from the Rainbow Bridge. As with most murals that I have visited and reviewed, this is probably not a very long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. It is located in the airport's B concourse. It was placed to welcome fans during the NCAA basketball tournament being held in Indianapolis as part of a powerful community collaboration called Swish. This abstract piece depicts a close up view of some flowers and blossoms. Without context, this mural does not have much meaning outside of the flowers depicted. However, Katner piece has a basketball connection because it is intended to represent a buzzer-beater. The flowers depicted in the mural are shown in a garden just before an initial freeze arrives in October. When speaking of the piece, Katner says, "The playful lines and bright colors call to mind the raucous dance of summer as it tumbles into autumn and finally releases its color until spring." It is a whimsical and color piece. I will admit that the connection is a stretch though and outside of Katner and whoever took the time to research the piece, they will never see the connection. It is a nice piece artistically, but very simple. I do like the texture appearance and the look of vertical brush strokes throughout the mural. This mural is "ok" for me. But because it is located in the Airport, behind the security check point to make it even more complicated. it is hard to get to and practically impossible to just make a special trip to see. The vast majority of people seeing this sculpture will be ticketed passengers flying in or out of the airport. But if you are flying out of the airport and see it, now you have some context and know what you are looking at.

The piece can be seen form the parking lot. It consist of 8 differing size slabs of limestone totaling 100 tons. he piece was the creation of Robert Stackhouse and Carol Mickett and was dedicated in 2004. I was really not feeling the piece. It is probably just not my taste. I do however, appreciate the time and skill that it took to create this piece. Fun fact: Art Center visitors were encouraged to participate in the pieces construction by being allowed to use chisels and saws to create the columns.

I happened upon this mural because it's located on the side of a building of a photography studio…read morethat I was visiting. It's a huge and striking piece of public art. You can see it from the street. A big ol' red bird staring off into the distance. Speaking of red: Did you know that the muralist -- Nick Abstract -- is colorblind? At least, that's what it says on his website. I can only imagine what this red bird looks like to the artist. Is this red bird a green bird to Nick? What are colors, really? Maybe what I think of as red is actually not red but a different color. So many things to ponder. I was so fixated on the bird when I saw the mural that I didn't even realize that there is text on the other half of the wall. It says "stay true" in graffiti lettering. But yes, there are words, and this mural takes up the whole side of the building wall.

The motivation behind his works is his younger brother, Sean, who has autism. Abstract was commissioned by Onyx & East (local home builders), who has some newly constructed high-end condos right across from the mural. He completed the mural in late 2020 and it is 80 feet wide and 24 feet tall. The mural depicts a very realistic cardinal perched on a stump with tree branches and green leaves in the background. There is also the phrase, "Stay - True" in graffiti style lettering and much smaller version of that saying in regular lettering, for those of us that are not fluent in graffiti, in the center of the mural. It is all very realistic and life like. There is metered street parking available on the road in front of the mural. So you can park, get out and take a closer look, if you so choose. You can get a half decent look doing a slow rolling drive by, if that is you flavor too. Anyway, as with most murals I have visited, this is probably not a very long stop.
