This is a very nice mural of Indiana's state bird, the cardinal. It was painted by local artist Nick Smith AKA (artistically known as Nick Abstract) Believe it or not, Abstract is color-blind. The motivation behind his works is his younger brother, Sean, who has autism. Abstract was commissioned by Onyx & East (local home builders), who has some newly constructed high-end condos right across from the mural. He completed the mural in late 2020 and it is 80 feet wide and 24 feet tall.
The mural depicts a very realistic cardinal perched on a stump with tree branches and green leaves in the background. There is also the phrase, "Stay - True" in graffiti style lettering and much smaller version of that saying in regular lettering, for those of us that are not fluent in graffiti, in the center of the mural. It is all very realistic and life like.
There is metered street parking available on the road in front of the mural. So you can park, get out and take a closer look, if you so choose. You can get a half decent look doing a slow rolling drive by, if that is you flavor too.
Anyway, as with most murals I have visited, this is probably not a very long stop. I was there less than 3 minutes. You may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other wonderful murals and memorials in the area to maximize your time and trip. read more
