This is a very colorful and eye catching mural that you will find on the side of Speedway tax…read moreservice. It is overlooking a parking lot which is good and bad. It is good because it makes parking here to get a closer look very easy. It is bad because cars are normally parked in front of the mural, blocking a decent portion of its lower section. The mural was painted in 2022 and is the collaborative work of Andrea Townsend and Chris Nusbaum, who was commissioned to do the piece by the Speedway Arts Council. Nusbaum, a Speedway Arts Council board member, digitally designed the artwork, While Townsend led the painting. You may not be able to tell, by how nice it is, but it is part of a community paint project. Over 250 people assisted with painting the mural. The mural depicts the words "Speedway, Indiana, Since 1926", set against a rainbow spectrum background. You will find a checked flag to the left of the words and a1926Indy Car, to honor the year the town of Speedway was incorporated, to their right. It is a very nice mural with awesome detail and artistic work. You will notice though that the 100 foot wall that the mural was painted on was not in the best shape to start with and not well prepared/preserved. Outside of that, I still like the mural and find it very interesting. I am also a sucker for community paintings. Anyway, as with most murals that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.

I highly recommend checking out the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum! And you don't have to be a…read moreracing or car enthusiast to enjoy it either! You know you've arrived when you spot the massive Indianapolis Motor Speedway track surrounding the museum. We got lucky and were able to watch some cars practicing on the track, which made the experience even more exciting! The museum itself is three floors filled with incredible history, cars, and memorabilia. Our favorite parts were seeing the evolution of the helmets and getting to look at all the different racing helmets and outfits up close! They also have an interactive area that makes the experience even more fun! Timed admission tickets were easy to purchase online through their website before our arrival, and we easily spent a good two hours here. Definitely a must see when visiting Indiana!

The price of admission was typical for this type of attraction. We spent about 1.5 hour here. It was interesting to see all of the cars and how they and the technology have changed over the years. The temporary exhibit on Jeff Gordon and his cars was also cool. We didn't have alot of time to do some of the add-on tours. For the casual fan this is worth a stop to learn more about this piece of American sports history.

There are new owners who are just getting into the art and event space business, their passion for the building and potential for the space shone through when we were talking to them. Bill gave us a tour of all 4 floors, explaining some of the art on display and detailing his plans for the spaces not yet finished. Gallery Forty-Two is going to be the perfect venue for weddings, its so close to Monument Circle it provides the perfect backdrop for weddings pictures downtown. There are lots of details and textures such as exposed brick and original doors that make for amazing photo ops inside also. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. This makes me want to renew my vows so I have a reason to book an event here. They do events on 2nd Fridays (instead of 1st Fridays to avoid competing with so many other downtown events) from 6-9pm. Go check out this stunning piece of downtown history, and enjoy the art at the same time!

Ok first, the location currently listed on this Yelp page for this mural is about 2 miles off. I…read morewill make it simple. It is located on the backside of Lafayette Square Mall facing I-65 on one of the service walls. Of course being at a mall gives you a ton of places to park and get a closer look. It does not hurt that the mall is operating on a limited capacity and appears to be under major renovation. This piece is the work of Joy Hernandez, and features her signature astronaut, Bean. It was completed in 2022. Bean is seen playing a buggle, with musical notes floating in the background. It is all set against a colorful background that matches the mall's new decor. The colors just make the mural pop. In addition to the main wall, the mural has two other walls that are painted in the same theme and you can find them on each side of the mural. It is not a very complex mural, but still works. It kind of reminds me of Herrnandez's Jazz-onauts mural. Her work can be seen all over the city. The mural's title is actually "Space Mambo #5" and was commissioned by Window to the World, the company that is replacing Lafayette Square Mall. It is a nice mural and if you are slightly familiar with Hernandez's work, you will know immediately that it is hers. Anyway, as with most murals that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions in the area, such as the mall, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.

Clearly I do not know anything about art, so I just go with my feelings and I do like this piece. Livens up the drab airport surroundings. It is the work of artist Jackie Head, who won the job out of 29 other applicants. Head specializes in 3D art and her work can be seen all around the city. Making this piece was no small feat. This is her largest project by far. It took Head about 5 months to complete. I remember driving by a few times on my way to catch a flight, wondering what they were doing over there. The mural is very colorful and eye catching and has colorful geometric patterns running its length. You will find one of the designs resemble a checkered flag (a nod to the Indy 500). Another resembles the rainbow carpet from the old IND terminal. The best view is from the road approaching the terminal. It may be hard to find a spot to park and enjoy the piece from there though as it is marked as no parking. You can also view the mural from the cell-phone lot. You can get a longer more stationary look from there, but it is like looking at a sweater from the backside, you can kind of see it, but it is not the best. The mural is intended to be viewed from the road entering the airport. I am not saying that I pulled over on the side of the road to get a quick look, but you will have to be creative to get a look from the road as the mural is intended to be. If you want to catch the mural, you have time. It will be on display for at least 3 years and do not worry about the cups that make it up. They will either be reused or recycled. I really like this mural. You do not see many like this. I could only imagine what it took to bring this project together. I understand that this is not a destination piece and would probably only be viewed by someone visiting the airport, either to fly out, drop someone off or pick someone up. I am glad that I was able to check it out and share my experience.
