By far my favorite hardware store I've ever been to. All the employees are some of the sweetest people I've ever met and they always make sure to say hello and ask if I need help. Besides tools, knives and ammo (which, ammo is hard to find in a store around brown county) can also find reasonably priced antiques. The salesperson said no, pretty abruptly, and immediately tried upselling me to the most expensive models despite me saying it was for home use. I left feeling dismissed. This old time-y and somewhat chaotic hardware store reminded me of my hometown True Value (only this one might have been a little more disheveled looking). I appreciate a small and local hardware store and prefer them to big box stores. During a quick weekend visit to Nashville, I decided to pop in here before heading home to grab some potting soil and teak wood stain. The gentlemen working were both friendly and helpful in finding what I was looking for and the prices seemed pretty average. This hardware store has an Americana/antique vibe that definitely fits into the Brown County experience and style. You'll find everything from soils and manure for gardening to painting supplies. However, from what I could tell, they don't have much to offer by way of actual plants. Overall, it got the job done and I would return for simple errands and needs. read more

For a small town hardware store you can't ask much more. Plus there is complimentary popcorn at the checkout. This is a good place for gifts and to by Carhartts, as well. Plus you can drop off your trash for only $2 a bag. read more

We always go here when camping at Brown County State Park, and I have always liked their service and prices. Also their propane prices have always been reasonable, but be cautious! I had to fill a 30lb tank for our camper so I called them to check their hours and verify the availability of propane. I was told $1.20 a gallon. I didn't know the going rate but figured this was good and reflective of the current fuel market with oil and natural gas being low. After the bottle was serviced I was presented with a $38.16 bill for 7 gallons of propane in a 30lb tank. When I questioned them, the attendant stated it was $1.20 a pound. When I mentioned the phone call quote, he said" Oh that was me, but I always get pounds and gallons mixed up". Then another attendant stated propane is $3.50 per gallon. This would have been $24.50 verses $38.16 for 30 lbs at $1.20 per pound. They seemed to think the higher was justified even though I was miss quoted on the phone, and also the two attendants had two different methods of pricing the propane. If you go here for propane, negotiate what you're paying before they fill your tank. read more
