This was on a Saturday afternoon, so I was impressed with his punctuality, a rarity these days across the board. We set a date/time and again, he was right here, on time, with a proactive text alert on his ETA. A few days later, I received a competitive quote/bid. Both my neighbor and I agreed Vinyl Pro was the preferred choice for our "good neighbor" fence project. The existing wood fence had been virtually destroyed by termites. A couple weeks later, before the Holidays, foreman Tony visited for a final field/project inspection and to procure a deposit (approximately 50%). Again, Tony was on time per agreement and sent an ETA text ... yes, punctuality and communication are important to me, so this was very comforting. Installation was promised on January 5th, 2026 and again, I was sent a text from the installation crew Joe and Cruz that they were on the way that morning. By the time I had returned home that morning, the old fence was gone and the new vinyl fence was already half installed. These men work efficiently and clearly take pride in their craft. Most of the installation was completed the first day (about 70-80' of vinyl with a gate on my side, fence on neighbors at the perpendicular). This was probably the cause of the front gate being hung from the wrong gate post. A stanchion, to help support a gate post was poorly fitted with coach bolts breaking the stucco surface, and, for the gates themselves, the length of the deadbolts required their faceplates to be shimmed. I recently hired Steve to build a custom fence and do some basic landscaping for me at my…read moreClairemont home. From the first meeting, I could tell Steve was an unconventional kind of contractor and was willing to work WITH me to get the exact results I wanted. We spend at least an hour in person reviewing the project, then several rounds of phone call/emails back and forth to hammer out the details and price. Compared to my other bids for the exact same work, Steve's bid was exceptionally detailed (I kid you not, down to the nuts and bolts required) and was SUBSTANTIALLY cheaper--so much so that I hired him on the spot when I got his final reworked bid. I am a pretty particular person (some might say a micro-manager), and I had a very specific vision for how I wanted the fence to be built and look. Steve (and his employees Chris & Patrick) were completely receptive to my input and turned the whole project into a collaborative effort in figuring out how to solve some of the more unique issues that arose during the construction. For me and my personality, that worked out perfectly. I am sure other contractors would have totally blown their lid dealing with me onsite everyday asking questions and talking, but Steve's guys took it in stride and the added collaboration really worked out for the benefit of the final result. The final fence built is so amazing people literally stop as they drive by and shout to ask who did the fence for me. I have even had SEVERAL people knock on my front door and ask for the contractor who built the fence. Part of that is down to my killer modern fence design (Steve know's I am right on that!), but most of it falls down to Steve's excellent execution of my vision. Due to the complexity of the project, Steve estimated 3-4 weeks, and they landed a little early at 3 weeks despite a few mix-ups and change orders. As the project was wrapping up, I was really looking forward to hiring Steve to do more work on other landscaping projects, but sadly, Steve told me he was moving home to be closer to family and this was his last project! I would without a doubt hire Steve and his team again for my future landscaping needs if he ever returns to San Diego.
