My deck has a lot of odd angles and was a complicated project, but Paul made everything feel easy. He was extremely communicative--texted me back right away, came out immediately to give me a quote, and always answered every follow-up question I had. It was genuinely a pleasure working with him. My custom-designed railing (64 linear feet) was hot-dip galvanized and took about six weeks from start to finish. Paul recommended a matte black finish because the hot-dip process can leave slight irregularities, but it ensures the metal will never rust. He was absolutely right--the final result is stunning. The railing was installed the day before my birthday party, and we made it just in time. All of my guests and neighbors were blown away by how beautiful everything turned out. Paul is professional, reliable, and highly skilled. I would honestly ignore any one-star reviews--they do not reflect the quality of his work or service. We are SO happy to have found Paul and Efficient Iron Works right here on Yelp. We used to have a really good ornamental iron company but then they got into high-end yachts and stuff. Then we had another excellent one, but they disappeared off the face of the earth. We have used a regular welder for our business, but he couldn't provide the level of detail that Paul could. When he first came out to meet with us, Paul struck us as an excellent listener with great ideas. He agreed that we could upcycle/repurpose our existing railings but get the new look and feel that we wanted. Paul created a design, gave us a very fair estimate, and then came and removed our existing railings. Paul kept us posted throughout the process and sent photos as well. He installed them today, and the photos don't do them justice -- they are gorgeous in person, but I did post before and after photos anyway. And of course, they're out of order but I did my best! SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY!! Paul and his company helped make 1979 stait railing safe for my soon to crawl baby. He came over after providing an estimate over the phone and helped analyze what adjustments could be made to our existing railing. It saved us so much money adding bars to our current iron railing to make it safety compliant. We even added built in baby gates at both ends . He designed them to be removable for when we need the space or our baby is old enough. I rarely give five-star ratings, but Paul really earned his. As part of a remodel, we added a new railing and installed new wrought iron stair railings in our Scripps Ranch home. It was exceptionally complicated (see below). Paul did a great job of helping to finalize the plan, working with our contractor and with Mission Moulding for the handholds, and delivering a beautiful piece of work. He met with us, either at home or at Mission Moulding, at least 4 times prior to installation. Despite all this, the final cost was exactly what he predicted initially, and a very reasonable price at that. The railing and banister are right in the middle of the house, the first thing you see when you come in, and our visitors are uniformly positive. This work really upgrades the whole look of our house. Some of the complications: * the rebuilt stairs were not completely equal rise * In addition to a number of right-angled wall connections, one banister needed to curve around a corner and connect both to an existing angled structure and also straight into two new stairs. * We wanted wooden hand-holds atop both banisters, including going around the corner and ending with a wooden balute (sp?) at the bottom. These relatively small issues, if not handled properly, would have created a messy, unstable job. Instead, we got a tight, perfectly fitted job. read more

I'll just get right to it. Paul and his team built us the most beautiful and unique custom iron railing I have ever seen. It is absolutely stunning. Paul came over to meet me and see the space. We sat on the stairs looking at photos I had saved, brainstormed and drew up the design together. Elements like hammered iron, knuckles, a few scroll designs sprinkled in and the best part - custom built wall brackets. That's right. The railing is not installed into the steps or with a bottom rail. It is anchored into the wall below the steps with beautiful brackets. It looks incredible and is more than a railing - it is an art piece in our home. This design was a bit out of the norm for Paul but as a true artist, he was excited about the challenge and executed it flawlessly. The install took from 11am-7pm and when they were finished we all stood around for 30 minutes admiring it. Paul should be incredibly proud. I definitely am. I had Paul come in to get me a quote for an iron door for the front of my house. He was really prompt and reasonable. I wanted the front of my house to serve as a catio and wanted to make sure that the cats could not get through the iron door. I went through lots of designs and finally came up with one that is cat proof (crossing my fingers as the cats have not gone outside to investigate their new catio yet).
