The food was excellent across the board--from the chili and gumbo to the wraps and burgers. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. What stood out just as much as the food was the service. The staff were warm, courteous, and attentive, making a difficult day a little easier for our family. I'm grateful to the team for helping make our gathering such a positive experience. I know my dad would have enjoyed this place, too.

I can't exactly remember which sushi rolls we got, but we for sure went all out. Of the 3 I ordered for myself, the spicy salmon roll stood out the most. Unlike other sushi joints, the salmon in this roll was cut into bigger pieces with less sauce -- it was more about the FISH and it stood out. It was very fresh and not fishy at all. Bar none the best salmon roll I've ever had. The decorations were great and unique. I loved the cherry blossom trees and the wall of figurines! The service was great as well, our server was attentive while the busboys were quick to clean our table. We even received a free dessert for our milestone! They also had someone walking around with accompaniments for our water. The only thing I can really nitpick in this department is the restaurant wasn't particularly busy, yet they sat another couple directly next to us. The restaurant is very close quarters. Our waitress was fantastic: very attentive, knowledgeable, and helpful throughout the meal. The only service issue we encountered was that the busser cleared one of our plates before we had completely finished eating, which made us feel a little rushed. Overall, it was a great dining experience with outstanding food, excellent service, and a sophisticated atmosphere. While the prices are high, the quality of the sushi makes it well worth considering for a special occasion.

I asked if she could do the lobster rolls with the smaller pieces, and she confirmed with the chef so we were back in business. The food was all excellent. I had the seared ahi and it was delicious, but was just a small portion for my liking. The scallops my wife had were delicious, but for $38 it was only 4 scallops. Maybe kids who live around here don't want fish when their parents do, but you should at least have a kids portion of fish and chips, or some fried shrimp on the menu for them. I'm not going to order a $27 fish and chips portion for a little kid, but he also didn't come to just eat chicken nuggets or buttered noodles.

But types of meats, types of cheeses, and the amount you want of each at one time. Is offputting and he has no right to do that to any customer and yes, he gets it wrong every time. Ambrosino's needs to let this guy know to he is too take a person's order one item at a time or even two at a time and that's it. He needs to stop being pushy and allow customers to give their deli orders one or two at a time as they wish to do it. This is my first and only Yelp review. Bear Down is one of the best BBQ spots in the entire Chicagoland area. I have lived in the city for years and I have eaten at every great BBQ place around (Smoque, Smoke Daddy, Honky Tonk, Blackwood, you name it). And I have to say, Bear Down ranks near the very top. This is the kind of restaurant that does everything on the menu right. Instead of having 9 different medicore sauces, like soo many BBQ joints. Bear Down has one BBQ sauce and it is the perfect sauce. Equal parts tangy, sweet, and spicy. It is very a very homemade sauce with little chunks and spices present. The meat is so good though, it feels like a sin to even use the sauce. The buns are the perfect sandwich bun, chewy and toasted. The baked beans have 5 different beans in them, peppers and onions. Plus they are made with their own delicious barbecue sauce. The baked beans are not overly sweet, instead they are smokey and a little spicy. Definitely the best baked beans I've ever had. Speaking of best I've ever had, the hot links are extraordinary. They are partially charred from burning wood, giving the outside a smokey flavor and wonderful crunch, while leaving the inside moist and tender. It is the most rich and succulent sausage you'll ever have. The pulled beef sandwich is one of the best pure meat sandwiches ever. The ribs are the smokiest I've ever had and fall off the bone tender. I have never eaten any meat that tasted so jam-packed with concentrated smoke flavor, as their ribs. There are a lot of new BBQ places that opened up on LaGrange. Big Bull in Tinley, Doc's in Mokena, and City Barbecue is opening in Orland. All on LaGrange, just a few minutes apart from one another. We didn't really have any BBQ places around, now we have 4 on the same street. I'm not sure what spawned this. But I will say that Bear Down is by far the best. We went here a number of months ago when it was cold and the restaurant wasn't much warmer. This is easily understandable but not necessarily acceptable. The owner and his wife were running the place themselves which is understandable as it is quite small inside. We were excited to see the they were featured on Chicago's Best after having been in business for liked than a year. The chef/ owner is passionate about his food and his craft which is as it should be. It seemed as if he was the man behind the curtain a la The Wizard of Oz . He did come pout to deliver the food which was his cameo. We had a sampler type of platter in order to try it all out. The food was just ok. Not smokey, not particularly tender, not bad but not particularly good. A shame as we really wanted this place to knock it out of the park. Aside from the food being unremarkable, the owner's wife was at the counter in a coat or a wrap with her face buried in the screen of her phone. It wasn't busy at all and rather than engaging her customers, even a little bit she was more interested in whatever was on her phone. Come on people when you present yourself like that with mediocre food is a prescription for disaster. In sum, the food was just O.K. and the service was sub - par. Drove out to Mokena for a short break from the city. Found Bear Down BBQ on Yelp. Stopped in for a great lunch. Had a lunch special, a good sized pulled pork (tossed) sandwich, fries and a drink for about $10 (tax included!). Tossing means the meat and sauce are mixed together before going on the roll. The meat was tender, the sauce was flavorful and didn't over-saturate the meat. I'm the bun was fresh and the whole thing held together very nicely allowing me to eat the entire thing drip free and without a fork. That was one tasty sandwich! Bear Down food is fantastic, I ordered the Rib Tips and they were awesome, tasty, tender where the meat fall off the bones, amazing, make you hum while eating, that's when you know it's good :) When food is not right, trust and believe me I will let you know. When I say I had no compliant regarding the food that's exactly what I mean. It was girls night out and we decided to try this place, all of us are planning to return soon. We all live in the Northern suburbans but it will be worth the trip. He perfected his smokehouse flavors, spices and BBQ sauce. His stuff is not store bought - it's all his own flavors. Homemade salads like potato salad, coke slaw and macaroni. But up the street there is a better place with lower prices. So it a no here for dogs. I will try a few other menu items if I can ever catch them when they are actually open.

I tried quite a few items: the gyro double cheeseburger, hot dog, chili cheese fries, breaded steak sandwich, polish dog, and mozzarella sticks. The gyro double cheeseburger was definitely unique. I'd give a slight nod to the cheeseburger over the gyro since the gyro meat was a little more well-done than I prefer. Every bite tasted different--one bite had the classic cheeseburger flavor with mustard, while the next tasted like a gyro with tzatziki sauce. It was an interesting combination that somehow worked really well. The hot dog was very good. I'd absolutely order it again and recommend it if someone asked. That said, it's also just a really solid hot dog. There wasn't anything revolutionary about it, but it was exactly what I wanted. The chili cheese fries were one of the highlights of the meal. Instead of simply putting chili and cheese on top of a pile of fries, they layer and mix everything together inside a soda cup. It's almost like they made a chili cheese fry casserole. Every bite had the perfect ratio of fries, chili, and cheese. Honestly, they should call it chili cheese with fries instead of fries with chili cheese. One of my favorite things to order at places like Nicky Vs is an Italian breaded steak sandwich because restaurants either know how to make one or they don't. Nicky Vs definitely does. At first I thought the price was a little steep--right around $20--but as soon as they handed it to me I understood why. It came triple wrapped, was absolutely loaded with toppings and juices, and was enormous. The sandwich struck the perfect balance between being hearty and flavorful. If you're craving a breaded steak sandwich, this is the place. If you're someone who orders polish sausages like I do, you'll know every restaurant has its own version. Some taste more like a hot dog, others more like a regular sausage. Nicky Vs serves a polish that truly tastes like a polish. It's hard to explain because that's literally in the name, but the flavor is exactly what you'd hope for. It also came with the biggest sport peppers I've ever seen. The picture I attached isn't an illusion--I didn't even know sport peppers came that size. I'd definitely recommend ordering the polish. The only disappointing thing about the mozzarella sticks is that they only come in a five-piece order. They were crispy on the outside, perfectly gooey on the inside, and exactly what a mozzarella stick should be. Overall, Nicky Vs impressed me. With several similar restaurants in the area, I think this place has a great chance to become a local favorite. Nothing completely blew me away, but there also wasn't a single thing I wouldn't order again. That's honestly a compliment in itself. If you're in the mood for burgers, hot dogs, beefs, or other grilled classics, Nicky Vs is absolutely worth checking out.
