I really don't have a lot to add to previous reviews. We rolled into town late and just wanted an espresso and cappuccino. The hostess was quite nice in showing us an outdoor table (our request) under a covering (it was drizzly). We were the only 2 out there so it was nice and private while also getting an opportunity to observe the crowds on the street and do some people watching. The outdoor bartender was very attentive. The coffee was not bad. All in all, a fine way to end our evening. read more

Came here on Aug 11 for lunch. Just getting around to writing a review. Like most places in Aspen, the food prices are really high at this restaurant. $25 for a sandwich and fries. I ordered The Governor (kobe sirloin / caramelized onions / melted cheese Dijon / sourdough / French dip jus). All sandwiches come with fries. But I upgraded to the truffle cheese fries, which is basically just parmesan fries. The sandwich was pretty good. The au jus added some good flavor. Could have uses more dijon though. The only real issue with the meal were the fries. The flavor were there, but they were dry, hard and over-cooked. I mentioned this to the server and he said that is the way they are prepared. So if you want a normal textured french fry, be sure to ask the server to have the kitchen not over-cook them. The server was very attentive. Seemed to have a good attitude. Seating was outside, which was great on such a beautiful day. The experience was fine and the food (minus the fries) were good. Not really a "wow" factor with this place. Would I recommend it? Sure. But, for me, I would try another place next time I am in Aspen. read more

Where do I start. First, the hostess was absent for at least 5 minutes. She was far too concerned that tomorrow is her birthday and texting other people.. After giving us a table that was being cleaned off, she realized, two minutes later, that she had promised another couple that table. Second, it took probably another 10 minutes for a drink order, which came out wrong. After another 20 minutes, we still had not been asked what food we wanted even though the place was not busy at all. After all, the wait staff had time to talk with the hostess about her birthday plans, while she txted. At least the lady who took our drink order seemed surprised that no one had been by for our food order when we asked for our check. And the Bloody Mary and Matcha were good. The mimosa was probably good, but I did not have time to savor it after asking for the check. At least the place we went to afterwards, where we spent over $120 was spectacular. read more

Even giving this place some grace for it being off-season (with I'm assuming low staffing) I struggle to give this place 2 stars. We were at the restaurant for 1.5 hours and our meals were staggered approximately 30 minutes apart from each other (there were 3 in our party). The burrito that was ordered came out an hour after arriving to the restaurant with cheese (when a dairy allergy was mentioned and was asked to be left off) so they had to remake it. The caprese sandwich had the butt of the tomato inside (with part of the stem left on) and the sourdough was barely toasted. The chicken sandwich was good, but very difficult to eat based on how it was assembled (all the components easily slid out of the bread). The chips and dip had hummus, pico and guacamole with a small handful of chips and a few pieces of cut up sourdough - something that could have been easily recreated by going to the grocery store. Overall, presentation, quality, and time management of staff have significant room for improvement The lemonades were the best part of the meal and they comped them for forgetting to put in our order and the long delay for food, but it wasn't enough to make us return customers. read more

Two friends and I stumbled across this absolutely wonderful restaurant on our recent trip to Aspen. We couldn't have been more delighted. The food was incredible, the location/ambiance/views were spectacular and cozy and our server Anton, was the cherry on top of our experience. He was friendly, knowledgable and had the most wonderfully infectious attitude that we didn't want to leave! We ended up going back a couple days and it was equally as fabulous. The male host outside is not enforcing social distancing or mask wearing. He is fine with people coming up to him with no mask, masks halfway on, touching his shoulders, etc. They also allowed two woman to come inside with accessory dogs (not service animals). I watched all this happen while eating outside next door. Seems like the staff need to be trained on COVID safety and dogs in eating establishments. read more

Was walking around in Downtown Aspen looking for a place with outdoor seating and heaters. Came across this place and it was amazing. The employees were supe accommodating. They went above and beyond and made sure everybody was comfortable. The food and the wine was amazing, the view was unbelievable and the staff just put everything over the top for us. While the food was delicious neither the poor service or atmosphere warranted the hefty prices. The drink prices aren't listed so you are shocked when you get the bill and your small latte was $12 and they charged you $6 for each ice tea refill. Everyone expects to pay more in Aspen but I would not recommend spending your money here. read more

First, let me caveat by saying that I've been to Bear Den both for breakfast and lunch, and I had a great experience on both occasions. I love the atmosphere and the staff is friendly and inviting. That said, I took a date to Bear Den for dinner and the experience was negative. Here is why: 1) I made a reservation for two, which required an $80 per person deposit, but when I arrived the table was set for four; seems like they weren't prepared to accommodate us in the way that one might expect of a high-quality restaurant. 2) After we sat down, I poured water for myself and my guest (the waiter didn't do this) but mid-way through the waiter, realizing his mistake awkwardly came over and tried to do it for me, mid-pour. It made for an awkward experience. 3) The waiter would periodically check in, but with leading questions rather than inquisitive ones. (e.g. he said "food is good?" rather than "how is your meal this evening?"). 4) Food menu was limited, and the quality was average at best. 5) Waiters were wearing their outerwear; no uniforms or aprons. In summary, I won't be going back to Bear den for dinner unless they expand the menu and improve the quality of service. There is a significant mis-match between the price point and quality of food and service, at least for dinner, although not for other meals. read more

It is safe to say this is the best coffee shop I'be been to in the Aspen area. The quality of the food is excellent, with vert fresh ingredientes, something very odd in the US (I'm from Argentina and I really miss good food). The staff is probably the other thing that makes this place so great. A big shoutout to the server girls and boys, they are all as attentive and practical as servers can get (can not say the same about the hostess). Since I tried this place, I've been at least 3 times each week and I love it. The place is small so ve aware that during busy days, it may be hard to get a table. But so worth trying read more

Wonderful lunch spot! We only had to wait 10 min for a table and everything we ordered was delicious! We had the Basil Fawlty lemonade to drink and ate the Thai meatball sandwich and the Rio Grande Bowl. The lemonade was refreshing and the food was fresh and yummy! This restaurant was just what we wanted for dinner. Very small and quaint inside. Wonderful service and super friendly staff. The Sam bop appetizer was outstanding and I am a sushi lover. It's like making your own hand roll. Absolutely delicious. We also had the fried noodles with chicken. They were very good. Anton was our server and he was so interesting to talk too. Several friends recommended this place, so I decided to come here for lunch on my last day in Aspen. The food was good, and I also ordered a soft beverage. When I asked for a refill, it didn't have a straw in it. I asked one employee for a straw, then they said they'll call my server. When the server (Diego) came, I asked for a straw again. And I kept waiting and waiting until it was about 18 mins since I first asked, so I asked to speak to a manager. Several minutes later, I finally got a straw. Can't believe it takes 3 staff members and 20 mins to give customer a straw so that the customer can enjoy a cool beverage on a hot summer day. The soft beverage that I waited 20 mins to enjoy cost me $6.08. Extremely disappointed to have dined there on my last day of my vacation. read more

Very unfortunate that this was the worst restaurant we went to during our stay in Aspen. Service was TERRIBLE, had the eggs with benefit and it took forever to get and then the eggs were basically hard boiled, and to top it off the waitress was rude and dismissive. We dined with Bear Den Aspen recently. My advice is to skip this restaurant entirely. The patio is cramped and the (very) overpriced menu isn't anything special. We spend $70+ for two breakfast sandwiches without any sides, one bottle of water and one iced tea. I asked for a refill of my $6 iced tea and was told that I would have to purchase another if I wanted more. How ridiculous. We won't be back. When I left feedback on their Instagram page, they blocked me. There are so many great options in Aspen. This isn't one of them in our opinion. read more

Bear Den has one of the coolest, friendliest atmospheres in all of Aspen. It's locally owned and managed by the former manager of the creperie/French restaurant down the street. The food was unique and tasty -- our favorite dish was their house-made hummus and freshly baked bread. We had incredible hostess and wait staff experiences each time we've been here. Had lunch at Bear Den Aspen July 14, 2021 and was underwhelmed. The French Dip featuring waygu beef for $25 was an unexpected, enticing offering and would seem to justify such a hefty price tag. Alas, the beef was nothing special, tasted ordinary, was tough to chew, and altogether was not worth the price by a long shot. No advertisement for waygu. Service was slow. Espresso was prepared and presented with little care or consideration - demitasse came with no saucer and no accoutrements such as sweet cubes, lemon rinds or the like.
