So here's how it works. The Castle at Rockwall is owned by Edible Ideas, and you MUST use their…read moresubsidiary, Beyond the Box Catering for your food. They are based out of Dallas, and you have to go to their office/ commissary in Dallas for your tasting. The onsite operations manager is Alfredo, and he is just fantastic. Helpful, knowledgeable, thoughtful and very responsive. The venue is beautiful, with lots of light, lots of space, and you pretty much have free reign to decorate how you wish. The food on the day of the wedding was delicious. The charcuterie table was like nothing I've seen...beautiful and made you eat with your eyes. But the journey to get there? Aye yi yi. The tasting was a disaster. My sister called me after crying that it was so bad they couldn't serve it to their guests and wanted a different caterer. We were told emphatically we couldn't. Her fiancée asked me if maybe they forgot they were coming and just pulled stuff from the fridge. They didn't feel that they were taken seriously when giving feedback about how bad the food was. The problem is that you have to work with Angela, the "Venue/Catering Manager" of the Castle. This is a problem for many reasons: 1) She has absolutely no understanding of food. Or catering, or pricing, or her venue. (She told us that they serve jumbo shrimp with fajitas, when in fact, they serve BAY shrimp, which is what you get in a 99 cent cocktail in Vegas, among the tons of other nonsensical information) 2) Almost every single question that was asked of her, she had to ask the chef, her boss (the owner, Doug), Alfredo the ops manager. You would think that after 25 years with this company, she would have a better understanding of this company and her venue 2) She will definitively tell you that she is not the wedding coordinator. (Not exactly sure what her role is.). She did NOTHING on the day of the event except hide in her office. 3) There was no follow up after the wedding with an invoice, receipt, "thank you for coming", "how was everything", etc In summary: This is a beautiful venue and the onsite staff are terrific. But if you are not a seasoned catering person, please hire someone who is, to do the planning with Angela.

I did not know that it was past time for the bar to close; if they would have simply pointed that out, it would have been perfectly fine. Instead, I was told by one bartender that she would not serve me. I went to the next one, and the mother of the bride ordered my drink for me. The second bartender started making my drink and the first bartender made him pour it out. So weird. Meanwhile, she's making drinks for another guest. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter. It was a strange, negative end to a beautiful day, however.

The RWC is tucked away in a neighborhood in the City of Richardson. You'll weave through a few residential streets and think to yourself, "this can't be right", and then all of a sudden you'll find a circle drive that leads to the older front house. If you follow the road to the back, you will find a lot of parking. Founder's Hall is easily accessed from the back parking lot. The facility has chairs and round tables for events. Our presenter projected a slide show presentation, so I'm assuming that WiFi, screen, projector, and technology support are provided to events here. The grounds look like they boarder a golf course, so there is a nice open green space along the back of the property. This is a City of Richardson facility that is available to rent.

I have been to a handful of events at this club, including weddings over the past 30 years. It was the perfect venue for an intimate wedding that I attended last month. The wedding had chairs set up in front of the gazebo for the ceremony and some tall tables outside the building for socializing before the dinner reception. When it was time to go inside and find your assigned table, you could see the dance floor and the buffet line for food. Restrooms were located right off the room. I threw a party for 650 of my guests and I was astonished at the execution by the management and staff. The management team is experienced and sophisticated. It was very easy to book an appointment and our first initial meeting went extremely smooth. We chose to participate in their food option and the food was exceptional. My fav were the kabobs, chicken and jelly custard. Make sure to get the jelly custard. It might not look like a nice venue from outside but let me tell you when you walk through those doors, you will be amazed by how elegant this hall is. We initially chose Crystal Banquet because they are part of the community and we genuinely wanted…read moreto support a local business within our community. Unfortunately, the way management handled our situation has completely changed our opinion of this venue. We had only signed our agreement a few weeks earlier when an unexpected family emergency and unavoidable international visa/travel delays made it impossible for us to continue with our wedding reception. We notified Crystal Banquet a full month before the event, which was scheduled for a Thursday, not even a prime weekend wedding date. We had paid a $1,500 deposit, but no event ever took place and we never received the services we were paying for. We were also still weeks away from the point in the contract when the final guest count, menu selections, and other event details were supposed to be finalized. Despite explaining the circumstances and repeatedly trying to work something out reasonably, management refused to return our $1,500 deposit. Even more upsetting, they pointed to their cancellation policy to claim that we could potentially be responsible for 75% of the invoice because we cancelled 30 days before the event. What made the experience worse was the communication. We tried to speak with management directly over the phone to have an actual conversation about the situation, but our attempts to discuss it were dodged and we continued receiving short responses simply referring us back to the contract. I understand that businesses need cancellation policies and deposits for protection. But there is also a difference between having a policy and refusing to show any reasonable flexibility when an event was booked only weeks earlier, cancelled a month in advance because of circumstances outside the family's control, and no reception or services were ever provided. The entire experience left us feeling that collecting money was more important than working with a family facing a legitimate emergency. What reasonable purpose does keeping the entire $1,500 serve under these particular circumstances, especially for a Thursday reservation that was cancelled a month beforehand? We approached Crystal Banquet expecting compassion, professionalism, and good-faith communication, particularly because we considered them part of our own community. Instead, this situation has been incredibly disappointing and stressful during what was already a difficult time for our family. Based on how management handled our cancellation and communication, I unfortunately cannot recommend Crystal Banquet.

Here, we met Barak O'Llama, Sir Llama-lot, Drama Llama, Bahama Llama, and the Dalhi Llama. They have an indoor, air-conditioned llama play room, where the llamas carry out their hierarchy and spend their time staring in the mirror. They have a whole llama show where they teach a llama class. It's super fun! If you ever need a llama themed wedding, this is a great place to do it. Out in front of Castle Waterford, be sure to check out their art- a metal chariot, the Loch Ness Monster, and other weird stuff. It's a beautiful venue that's such a fun place to hang out at! The only draw back was that the only restroom out here was a port-a-potty. Not very regal.
