Dr Hummel is nice, all the techs in the back are nice and helpful. Very good The people at the front desk are horrible!! They automatically create appointments the patients don't know about then charge no show fees when u don't show up. Shady business practice. Terrible terrible customer service. Shame. I have been a patient at Bear Creek Dental in Mount Airy, Md. for 20 years.... I have tolerated the front desk and office staff's rudeness and unprofessionalism for years due to the fact that the hygienist was good and she did a thorough job on my cleanings. This week was the final straw. In addition to their rudeness and unprofessionalism I caught them overbilling me as a patient. When I questioned Julie, the office manager, how she arrived at the amount owed, she came across with a very righteous attitude and she proceeded to say that I was responsible for my deductible, which more than covered the 20% co pay. That part was fine. She then tried to tell me that I was responsible for the deductible above and beyond the 20% co pay. Julie was adamant and that is how they bill everyone. It felt like she was getting flustered and started trying to "bully" me and trying to defend her position because I questioned her. I held my ground, telling her she was wrong. She then called Delta dental only to come back with and stating the fact that I was correct and would adjust the bill accordingly. Julie said 3 to 4 times that they weren't trying to cheat me out of my money. Not sure why she felt compelled to continue repeating this statement. When she came up with the new figure I said thank you and hung up. I did the math once I hung up only to find out that she was wrong again. I called her back and did the math for her. She got all flustered again, didn't want to talk and said I'd have to talk to accounting. The following day I received 5 calls within in a 1 hour window of time while I was in meetings. It was Chris calling. I'm guessing she is the ring leader of this circus and why the office personnel feel they can be rude, unprofessional and treat people anyway they feel like. She was definitely leading the charge with how rude she was and the fact that she wasn't listening. She left me a message stating that my appointment was cancelled, sent me an email cancelling my appointment but never stated why it was being cancelled in either message. When I called her the next day and ask her what was going on, she said they were not interested in having me as a patient. Hmmm! When asked why, she said because she didn't approve of how I spoke with her staff. While I was firm in my conviction, my conversation remained professional throughout. I guess she didn't like the fact that I questioned them and didn't except their original answer to me. All this over $25.00 dollars. I ask, what credible business in their right mind, would release a 20 year customer over $25.00 versus trying to resolve the issue. I now know why I have had family members and friends tell me "they would never go to their practice if they had to". One final note, I've never posted a review in my life. This should put things in perspective with how incredibly disappointed I am in Dr. Hummel. The fact that he has allowed this behavior to continue and dampen his reputation as a professional dentist. Dr. Hummel, you're a good dentist. Do yourself a favor and review all of the 1 star ratings. There is a definite pattern of behavior. You tell me where the problem lies!!! read more

Always have great experiences here with Dave and the staff! My kids and I have been coming here for years. They really care about their patients. Both the hygienists and Dave always ask my kids how they are and how they are doing. They become family. A great family dentist!! Highly recommend. read more

My husband went to Bear Creek due to a broken front tooth. He was treated by Dr. Hummel, After many visits, a dental appliance, and adjustments for pain relief, he is left with a tooth on his dental appliance half the size of his other front tooth, sitting crooked and looking ridiculous. When I insisted they correct their shoddy work, I was told it would be corrected only if I agreed to again pay the amount I had already paid. I must agree with all the other one-star reviews, in addition to their rudeness , they are the most unprofessional group of people I have ever had to deal with. Beware! read more

I've been to over a dozen dentists in my life, as none were ever able to numb my teeth. I was ready to throw in the towel on dentists all together, especially with a root canal on deck. Everyone of those precious dentists told me they would "be the one" to get me numb to the pain. None had ever literally put their money were their mouth(or my mouth) was Except Dr. Hummel. He literally laid a cash bet on the line. 10 minutes later, my tooth was numb, drilled, and I realized I was on my way to the ATM machine. Dr Hummel and his staff are amazing. Pure professionalism, while still keeping the busy a fun and light hearted experience. Something I didn't know was possible at the dentist. My search has stopped!! I've finally found a home where my chompers are in good hands. read more

Although both dentists at this practice are kind and professional, the office manager, Chris, is exceptionally rude and argumentative. Without calling to inform me that my appointment was cancelled, I was told that they had so many patients they couldn't call to inform the patients of their status. My hair stylist called me, my eye doctor called me as did my physician. Calling patients is part of doing business. Chris complained that her job was so tough. She explained all the ways the business is suffering, but could not give an apology without adding excuses. Stay clear of this woman! read more

Had similar experience to Brian S. Horrible experience with questionable billing practices - 3 separate instances of overbillings that I had to catch. The first was reversed after I caught it. The 2 remaining overbillings they refused to reverse (despite insurance specifically confirming that they were in violation of their contract). Rather than researching and resolving the issue with insurance, office manager resorted to insulting me and threatening to turn over to collections - very strange approach to customer service. Office manager appeared to be where all the issues began and ended - very aggressive, unprofessional approach who would never admit a mistake (although she seemed to make a lot of them). It got so bad that when she told me that my voicemail was full, and I told her that she may have called the wrong number (I got a new cell number this year), she told me I was wrong. Just a very bizarre experience. I just could not find a way to reason with her. Customer beware - Dentist seemed nice and competent enough (it's a dentist - I'm not that picky) - you will just need to always look over your shoulder to ensure you are not overpaying. B/c of this, there are plenty of better options in the area. read more

I had a cap break in half on Wednesday, a phone call to Bear Creek Dental during the Covid 19 Pandemic and they agreed to see me on Thursday even though they were closed. When I entered I was checked for fever upon arrival, the staff was welcoming and professional, workplace was clean and sanitary. Dr. Hummel diagnosed the problem and I left that day with a new cap. Not a temporary but a new cap!! What an awesome experience. These people are truly professional and I highly recommend them. read more

My experience at Bear Creek Dental was TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! I found their level of service to be extremely poor and in my case they were downright sloppy which is completely unacceptable when you provide a healthcare related service. The one time that I voiced my dissatisfaction to them I was verbally assaulted and threatened. If you are a masochist and enjoy been treated like a piece of dirt then Bear Creak Dental is the place for you. For everyone else find somewhere else. read more

I've had some bad experiences with dentists in the past. Thankfully we found Dr. Hummel's business Bear Creek Dental who knows a lot of about his patients and tries to ensure they are as comfortable as possible during visits. Dr. Hummel has the memory like an elephant - he remembers everything about a patient which I find valuable - so I don't have to tell him every single visit that I require a lot of Novocaine! I really like coming here and feel welcomed every time I have an appointment. I will definitely continue to going to this practice. The office staff is also very nice and helpful. They play great music in the office and it's a welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommend! read more
