It is disappointing that Bean is not an inclusive, welcoming, and open minded establishment to fit the Germantown community. I need ramp access and I was discriminated against when I tried to use the ramp on the side of the coffee shop. The employee rolled her eyes and voiced how it's a huge ordeal and inconvenience to grant ramp access. The coffee shop was empty. It's not like they were slammed with patrons. The Bean is conveniently located in the Germantown neighborhood, right at the corner of Goss and Texas! It's a quick walk from where I stay when in Louisville, and open during COVID, taking all the proper precautions. They have a walk up window, that has transitioned to a half-indoor, weather protected area as the temperatures drop. The baristas are some of the nicest I've encountered! Always ready to serve with a smile on their face. My go to coffee order is an Americano, and the Bean has a great one. I usually get a flavor, such as hazelnut, and a splash of soy. And it always come out hot, and the perfect amount of flavor (not overly sweet). The Bean has become my go-to spot since visiting Louisville from summer through now. I've never tried any of their food, but the pastries always look fresh. Looking forward to continuing supporting this local spot! read more

I went this afternoon and was asked if I had a mask when I walked through the door. No greeting really... just that abrupt question. I grabbed my mask out of my purse and ordered my latte that seemed a little small for the price. It was very good though and I would order it again. The weird thing was I was sitting there drinking my coffee and a couple guys walked in to order coffee and I heard the barista tell one of the guys standing there waiting, it's okay you don't have to wear the mask... so he had his nose hanging out with no issues. Weird considering that the mask demand when I entered was obviously deemed more important than greeting me. Bright, sunny, chill coffee spot! I love having so many options for local coffee, and I love Bean. Their iced Vietnamese is the perfect balance between strong brew and sweet. For their regular brewed coffee, they offer a bottomless cup option for only $3.50, which is fantastic for dedicated coffee drinkers and people who want to hang out a bit. No more awkwardly asking for refills! The space is large, with several different seating options that can accommodate large groups or small. It is divided into a front and back of house, which is fabulous for meetings and if you're simply looking for a quite space. Beautiful large windows that overlook Goss Ave and let in a ton of natural light. Located directly across from the Pearl, parking is on street, however, I usually don't have a problem finding a place on Texas Ave. The folks of Bean are friendly, down to earth and helpful--happily explaining anything you may be wondering about. One of the whole reasons to choose local over chain is to support our hard-working neighbors, and everyone I've met at Bean has been wonderful. They also offer a nice selection of healthy food items--sandwiches, bagels, fruit, bagels, etc. Although I will admit: I frequently get into a groove with my coffee shop and always just go to the same place. I am glad I decided to branch out and try Bean again for the second time--I am sure it will become more regular for me, as the atmosphere, people, and coffee is a complete package! Coffee is LIFE and I love every single local coffeehouse but this one. This is not a review based on ambience, decor, friendliness of staff, etc. This is purely a rating on the coffee itself- which is so unfortunately and maddeningly gross. Literally every time I have gone (in hopes maybe it was just a bad day) the coffee tastes like mud that was put in a glass. I'm not sure if it was an off day, but I really did not enjoy my coffee. It tasted nothing like coffee (very milky) so I asked really nicely if they could add more coffee. I usually don't complain to the staff unless it's really bad, and then she said it would be an extra dollar to fix it. Usually getting coffee is the best part of my day, but this experience really upset me. Bless Bean and it's adorable little space. I love the atmosphere of this coffee shop and how bright it is! The employees are always kind and the service is typically quick. I prefer their hot coffee to their cold brew, but both are good. They recently switched to paper straws which is great for smoothies (and the environment!) but in a cold to-go cup, the straw hole just cuts it in half - not so helpful. I also enjoy the variety of snacks they have, which are typically baked goods. My favorite thing though, is the back portion of the shop which is great for doing homework. I checked out Bean Coffee while I was waiting for an appointment at Norton Audubon Hospital. Having never been here before, I was pleasantly surprised by the friendliness of the staff members and the quality of the black tea with orange and vanilla that I ordered. The tea was definitely top notch--much better than what you'd get at a chain coffee shop or even some of the more numerous local shops. Aesthetically, Bean was great too. The wood floors and the artwork on the walls lent a hipster vibe to everything, which is of course a necessity in a Germantown coffee shop. The coffee was okay, pretty good especially for the prices, but I've hear amazing things about the egg and cheese biscuit. I have come at 9 AM on Tuesdays, on the weekend, so many days trying to get this biscuit and they are ALWAYS sold out. Unfortunately, 9 is the earliest I can arrive, but since they're open until 4 I didn't think it'd be an issue. I guess that means the biscuit really is THAT good! But I'll never know. I went here on a weekend afternoon for a study session. They sell Elixir Kombucha which I was excited to see. I'm not a big coffee drinker and the other drinks offered didn't sound appealing. Glad to see Germantown has a neighborhood coffee shop! I'm digging the space, the painted wood floors, and white walls. Very bright and airy! The coffee is great too. I'm not positive who the roaster is, but I'm a fan! They have their wifi password posted on the wall, and they have a "neverending" cup of coffee option on the menu, so you don't have to feel bad about asking for multiple refills. This is now turning into my favorite go-2 for coffee and a snack. I mostly get a macchiato - and they make it correctly, not the way Starbucks has ruined the word by their version) - double shot of espresso and a bit of foam. A couple of times I have asked for a dark roast coffee, and when they are out, they will gladly brew a pot. The snacks are great and fresh, and they will warm them up in a real oven, not nuked. I have had the curried tuna sandwich a few times now, love the mix of curry, apples (i think) and raisins. But the employees were wonderful, very sweet, although the service was a little slow for them not seeming to be too busy at the time.
