I asked the employee to choose one for me. She decided on the strawberry filled pop tart which I probably wouldn't have chosen myself. But i'm sure glad she did! The pastry was flaky and soft, the strawberry filling was not overly sweet. The pop tart was so good overall! I will definitely be coming back on my next cheat day.

But if you're in or around Castroville - I'd tell you to go to Octane Coffee. Found them on Yelp this morning. They are tough to find. As a matter of fact, when I pulled up to their current location I literally said aloud in my car..."Is this a joke? - this is a winery." But after a short investigation, I did indeed find good coffee. I spent about an hour hanging out with the owner and his mother. We were the only ones in the place. They were both incredibly friendly. The Hazelnut latte I ordered was just hot enough, had four shots in it, and was very good. Plus - they had wifi :) I even bought a bag of coffee the owner recommended. I was sorry to hear the story about their current location, though. Seems they used to be "downtown Castroville", but the landlord kept raising their rent, and he could only roast his coffee beans during certain times, etc. Sad when local business are pushed out for almighty dollar.... Anyway - They moved to this current location, which, I'll be honest, is not the most convenient - but it gives the owner a chance to do his deal! Wishing them all the best! While looking at the menu, a server comes over and asks if we wanted appetizers or go straight to order. Straight to order, please. The husband ordered the brisket pot roast. It came with asparagus and what he thinks was puréed squash. I had the pecan chicken. Panko breaded with pecans and a bourbon sauce. Maple and bourbon were the flavor elements. Came with baked Mac and cheese and sliced slightly charred carrots. This was really good, as was the husbands plate. Warm Sourdough bread and butter is served with the meal. We split a Caesar salad. The salad was OK, the dressing was a little tart and served on the side. I'm taking a slice of chocolate cake to go. As I peek into the bag, it is a generous slice with strawberries and a dollop of whipped cream. Stay tuned. The restaurant is part of the Hillside Resort. Looks like a bunch of rooms. When we were about to leave a group of women came in and sat at the bar. I told the bartender we'd heard about them through Texas Eats. He said 'are they still showing that?
