I've been going to Maryam for almost 18 months once weekly, and I honestly don't know what I'd do without her! I have several chronic illnesses, one a neuro degenerative one, and her weekly acupuncture and cupping have proven to be very helpful in mitigating my sensory symptoms. She is very knowledgeable not only about Traditional Chinese medicine, but also western medicine. I trust her opinion when I ask her questions regarding different medical topics ranging from digestion to liver health. She is very helpful and I am so fortunate to have her on my team! read more

I started going to Maryam to help ease the side effects of my chemotherapy treatments. My breast surgeon recommended Maryam because of Maryam's past experience offering treatments at the Putnam Hospital's breast center. At the time I was experiencing muscle tension around the shoulder on the side of my port, TMJ from stress, insomnia and neuropathy in my hands and feet. After 2 sessions of polarity, acupuncture and cupping with Maryam I felt a noticeable difference in the muscle tension in my shoulder and jaw. After my sessions I also felt that the numbness in my fingers and toes improved. Over time my sleep improved as well. After each session I feel completely relaxed and rested. Maryam is extremely intentional in her work and her intuition has been "spot on" with what my body and my mental state has needed throughout my treatment. She is compassionate with her care and I highly recommend her to anyone who needs support during their cancer treatment. read more

Very experienced practitioner, competent, and good bedside manners. Experienced in acupuncture, massage and physio.

I began my first acupuncture treatment with Maryam in October 2024 to assist me with severe insomnia. She accommodated me immediately and fitted me into her busy schedule as well as any advancing or rescheduling appointments if needed. The applied massaging techniques before and after treatment are always beneficial. Maryam will review your diet and other lifestyle habits that may be affecting your general health and will suggest methods to improve. In a short period of time I found Maryam to be more than an acupuncturist. She not only heals with acupuncture and cupping she also heals spiritually. Her calming even toned voice and mannerism is always soothing and brings me to feelings of peace. Life can be overwhelming at times and she has been able to calm my mind and body before, during, and after treatment sessions. She is teaching me the importance of enjoying life while solving problems during stressful times. Maryam genuinely is concerned about your overall health and well being. I highly recommend her! read more

Maryam is fantastic! I started doing research for acupuncturists in the area that specializes with fertility since I was trying to get pregnant. I came across Maryam on Google and after meeting with her for my initial appointment, I knew I found a great match. Plus she is a registered nurse which made me feel even more confident working with her regarding my issues. She listened to everything I was going through and asked questions. She really took the time to get to know my situation. She definitely went above and beyond to help in any way she could. I worked with her for a couple of months and was able to get pregnant naturally which was huge for my husband and I. I continued to work with Maryam throughout my pregnancy as well. We are now on baby # 2! I know she played a huge part in my fertility journey! She only has the best intentions for her clients and genuinely wants to help them. She is also flexible with her schedule to help accommodate appointments that work for you. I would highly recommend Maryam for any type of acupuncture session. read more

In my opinion Maryam of Heart Body Mind Acupuncture is just about the best acupuncturist in the area. In January I was experiencing lower back and hip pain and my former acupuncturist had become unavailable. An internet search took me to the very professional website of Heart Body Mind Acupuncture. I was impressed with Maryam's medical background and her qualifications and booked an appointment. I was not disappointed. Maryam is attentive, starting each session with a brief discussion about all aspects of how I have been feeling. She then decides the mode of treatment after we talk.. Her acupuncture is virtually pain free and her massage and cupping are amazing! Maryam is extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of health including diet and herbal remedies. I see her on a weekly basis now and highly recommend. read more

I reached out to Maryam a few months ago when I was at my breaking point with several chronic issues. Traditional doctors just couldn't seem to help (without trying unnecessary prescriptions) and I was so tired of feeling horrible all the time. I had been dealing with sinus congestion and headaches, lifelong GI issues and even problems with my cycle. I read that acupuncture could help with all of these things so I gave it a shot. Wow. What a difference she has made. She was quick to respond and answer my questions. She really listens to you and tries to find the best practices for your situation. Because she also has years of experience as a nurse, I felt very comfortable discussing my health with her. In addition to acupuncture, she introduced me to Chinese herbs (which was a mix she designed for me with my stomach issues in mind) and I have even tried cupping with her. She also advised me on how to change up some of current supplements for best effect. There was never any pressure, just a genuine desire to help me feel better. It's been about 2.5 months and my congestion has faded and I feel like I can hear normally again, my digestion has improved and is better than it's ever been, and I have had the easiest and least painful periods of my adult life for the past two months. I basically feel like a new person. It's also great that she takes appointments in the evenings and on weekends, a huge bonus for me when I was researching acupuncturists in the area. I highly recommend Maryam, go see her! read more

As an intuitive quantum energetic practitioner, it was extremely important that I find an Acupuncturist that incorporates Chinese Medicine to match my energy to help with past life traumas, grief in this life time and to heal within deeply. The most important aspect of being treated by Dr. Maryam Whooten, is that she can sense and connect both acupuncture and Chinese Medicine to your body's needs. Her energetic vibration is so soft that it matches each energy tones of each needle placement. This I found to be extremely helpful assisting my body to finally heal itself. I have the utmost respect for her expertise and wisdom. Gratitude: Sheldon G. (TigerWillowStudio.com) read more

I always have the best experience at Heart Body Mind Acupuncture. I feel very comfortable, and the space is beautiful. My job is incredibly physical, over the summer I had both a back and a shoulder injury. I went to see Maryam for both separate injuries and after one session I would already start to feel improvement. After two sessions I was starting to feel back to normal. I know my healing process would have been much longer and was glad to get back to work shorty after my first appointment. I can not recommend Maryam enough. read more

I truly cannot speak highly enough of Maryam and her practice. I came to her after a year of debilitating symptoms caused by chronic Lyme disease. During that year, I saw countless specialists in the Western medical field, was treated with various antibiotics both orally and intravenously, and though I felt improvement, I was still struggling with various symptoms including vertigo, neck, back, and foot pain, tinnitus, and an irregular menstrual cycle. In our first session, Maryam listened carefully to my story, asked questions, and truly empathized with the situation I found myself in. She explained in detail what she could do to help me and provided her first treatment. For the first few weeks, I didn't feel many effects, and I started to feel discouraged. When I expressed to Maryam my concern and sadness about my symptoms, she not only listened, but shared her own words of wisdom. Shortly after that treatment, I started to feel the effects of her work. My vertigo decreased significantly and my period came on time. It felt like a miracle. We continued working together and soon, my tinnitus started to silence itself for periods of time throughout the day. Every MD I saw for this issue told me there was nothing to do and that I should put on white noise so the ringing in my ears wouldn't bother me. I continue to see Maryam in the hopes that one day, I will be entirely symptom free. She has made me believe that is possible, and it feels so close. With her experience working in hospitals, she deeply understands that system and mode of treating patients (which is helpful when talking about medications and what other doctors have offered) but combining it with her knowledge of acupuncture and Chinese medicine generally, she is able to offer care that I truly can say has changed the course of my recovery and life. Maryam is not just an acupuncture practitioner, she is a healer. If you want care that is refined and offered with knowledge, empathy, and kindness, book your appointment now. read more

I have struggled with neck, shoulder and thoracic spine pain for many years. The pain significantly worsened over the past year and x-rays showed osteophyte formation, osteoarthritis and reversal of the normal curve. In the past I have participated in physical therapy for the same condition and it provided minimal to moderate relief at best. I was at a point that my range of motion in my neck was so poor that it impacted my ability to perform my job, parallel park a vehicle, turn my head from side to side, etc. During the night, I would have to sit straight up in bed to change my position as I couldn't "twist" my neck and shoulders. I am a (Western) medical provider and while I was hoping that acupuncture would provide some relief, I was not confident. After my VERY FIRST treatment I experienced significant pain relief. The following day I noticed that I could rotate my head with minimal pain. Within 4-5 visits my pain level was less than it had been in years. I committed to weekly treatments for several weeks and am happy to say that I am now pain free. Ask yourself, "What do I have to lose?" As for me, I lost the chronic pain and the complete exhaustion that often burdens those who suffer chronic pain. If you are considering acupuncture, I urge you to give her a try and schedule a consult, it may change your life. Ana Sigalas, RN, MSN, CCM, AGNP-C read more

I didn't know what to expect with acupuncture. I went on my doctor's recommendation for my endometriosis pain. My pain has been so much better since I began acupuncture about two months ago. I've been working with Maryam every week for about six months. I really appreciated how Maryam listens to me and my body before she treats me. Each session, she observes my health/condition before she determines what work should be done. She asks a lot of questions and gives a nice full body massage, which helps her figure out what kind of treatment is needed. I have left each session feeling much better both mentally, physically, emotionally, and energetically. In addition, when needed, she prescribes herbal medicine, which I have found to be healing. I like that Maryam is trained professionally in both eastern medicine and western medicine. She's been knowledgeable when discussing my medical concerns. She has helped me a lot and I am so grateful to have found her! I highly recommend Maryam! read more

I had a New Year resolution: quit smoking on January 1st! And it's been 40 days that I haven't touched cigarettes. :) I made my first appointment in late December and immediately after the first session I could see the results. I was less anxious during the day and when stopped smoking, I didn't have a single withdrawal symptom. Miracle! I'd tried acupuncture a few years ago, but never went back. But this time I've been recommending it to everyone. Maryam is gentle, knowledgeable and understanding. She does a thorough assessment, explain every step and makes you comfortable in the process. read more

I've been driving a lot, visiting friends and family since I recently retired. I developed a knife pain in my back. I've tried just about everything to reduce or eliminate the pain, but nothing has worked. So I thought I'd try acupuncture. It was my first time. I was just passing through the area, but I was desperate. I Googled and found Maryam. She was great. She took the time and listened. I had no idea what to expect. Maryam explained everything. The pain is gone. And today, a day later, I golfed with no pain. Maryam is courteous and professional. I would highly recommend her. UPDATED on 10/14/17 from 6/21/17. Have driven another few thousand miles since my original post. Still no back pain. I'm a very happy customer. read more

Maryam has a gentle, intuitive, and warm presence that made me feel welcomed and comfortable. She took a thorough history and overview of overall health before setting me up for an acupuncture session. I relaxed into the needles being placed, and appreciated Maryam's regular check in if I was comfortable, cold or warm. I have found that I have an immediate sense of rejuvenation after, and have been going weekly. When I have had a back ache, a cold, trouble sleeping, acupuncture with Maryam immediately alleviated symptoms. I would highly recommend Maryam! read more
