I joined the dog park in May as we had just moved to Beacon. I was really happy that they screen the dogs ahead of time by having them register their dog with the city and submit their vaccination records. No aggressive dogs are allowed. I really appreciate this as my dog is an anxiety prone rescue. While we lived in NYC we couldn't go into any of the dog parks as you never know anything about the dogs. Also, the park is very big so the dogs have space to stay to themselves unlike the small parks in NYC. Everyone I have met is very kind and helpful. I have found out about such great restaurants, contractors, other dog friendly places, vet clinics and a wonderful doggy daycare place. read more

Not sure what these negative reviews are about....... There is and always has been a separate entrance for small dogs; there is no reason for a small dog not to come here. Secondly thankfully this is a private dog park that anyone can join for an annual fee. Makes me feel safe that only neutered/spayed dogs with all appropriate vaccinations come here. I'm happy to pay $55 a year knowing that all the dogs that come here are fully vaccinated and fixed. Well worth it. I go almost daily, I've yet to see a fight. read more

OUT OF TOWNERS NOT WELCOME What is it with this part of NY and the members only dog parks? I can see some benefit, but mostly it's ridiculous. The dog park is completely empty, yet totally unusable to anyone who doesn't have a key. Don't waste your time or gas trying to go to this dog park. I will say the actual park adjacent is huge and great for walking leashed dogs so it's not a total wasted trip if you find yourself in the area. read more

We love the beacon dog park! My dakota loves running in the huge field!!! Very open for all the dogs to play! Some dogs can be aggressive, but that's what happens. Some owners are very crazy about their dogs and if yours makes the slightest move they flip out. So I would just make sure you keep an eye on your dog at all times. My husky loves it though! They have a fun pool for the dogs to play in and he of course loves that! Plenty of fresh water to fill the bowls up with!! Again it is $45 and I drive 45min to get here, but it's definitely the best park I've been to in the area! Lagrange is too exclusive and I heard the fishkill park has mean dogs. read more

Decent dog park, but there are better choices that you don't have to pay for to gain entry. Things it has going for it: - Separate large and small dog runs - Dedicated water source in both runs (spigots) - Both runs are large enough that dogs can really run - Poop bags provided - Great fencing - Parking at bottom of driveway in park - Port-a-potty at end of driveway Things it has going against it: - Limited shade - Limited seating - Grass ground cover - Need a key fob to get into run - Park on the upper field next to run and you risk getting fined This a decent dog park just because of its size. A few upgrades could make this a great run. Add more seating and upgrade the water source and ground cover in areas and it could be a 4 star run. Now at this dog park you have to Pay $45 annually for one dog and $10 for each additional dog, I am not a big fan of that. For that annual fee this dog park needs to upgrade some of the amenities. Love this park! My pitt mix has a group of friends that she plays with every day. It's been great for her socialization. She's much a much happier, confident dog since we've been visiting the park. As other reviewers mentioned, you have to be a member to use the park. Honestly, I'm pretty happy about that. It means that all dogs in the park have their rabies vaccination. They're all spayed or neutered so less fighting, and if an incident were to happen, there's a way to follow up. I think these are good things. The park isn't run by the Beacon Parks Dept. so a reasonable membership fee is fine by me for all the value my dog and I get from the park. read more

So far it's been wonderful! I have a 10 month old mixed breed small dog. A fence divides the two sides, one side for small dogs and another for big dogs. Water and waste bags are provided. It is excellent because all dogs must meet certain requirements and there are rules. I paid the $50 fee and received a key for the gate. My dog goes in and runs like the wind! It's a great space. We haven't totally figured out the most popular times because it tends to have very little small dogs visiting when we have gone. My dog and I enjoy visiting this place and would recommend it! read more

I was visiting a friend who recently moved into the neighborhood and walked to this park from her house. I was excited to give my dog a chance to socialize with other pooches. To my dismay, I was told that this was a "members only" dog park which required a key. At the time, there were only three dogs in the entire park. This is the first time I have ever been to a dog park that is private. Imagine if all parks for human beings were "private?" I have a feeling most people will not take to that kindly! I live in NYC/Brooklyn, and all dog parks are inclusive and welcome everyone. This is a ridiculous idea. We enjoy coming here. There aren't many dog parks in the area and this one is a little further for us but we go occasionally. The field is very open which is why this is one of our faves. There's always one or two digs who can be rough, but the owners have always been mindful. Never feel threatened for my dogs. read more

The park is a tribute to community support and city cooperation. Totally funded by members, this park, in agreement with the City of Beacon that 'lends the land,' is run by an unpaid board of volunteers and citizen members. Fees are essential to meet the several thousands of dollars necessary to make the park what it is: a center for dog recreation and social interaction of owners that rises above the minimum. Some folks expect all dog parks to be free, but that is not possible if the users must bear the costs of items such as insurance and maintenance. What is also remarkable is the donation of time and money that go toward park improvements so it rises above being just a field with water bowls. A trademark of the city of Beacon, this is an inclusive park that welcomes members from any community who meet the health and registration requirements that make it safe and secure. And the fee is the same for everyone, no matter where our pups sleep at night! It is a different park for sure, but for all it's members, it is worth the nominal investment of less than $0.16 a day that insures each dog entering the park has been properly screened and each member knows they are responsible to keep it clean. (By the way, the sixteen cents includes poop bags when Fido has to go in the park!) read more

3.5/5. Had a membership last year but didn't repurchase this year. Schedule made it hard for me to get there before dark ~ I know there was talk about this but I really wish they would install lights so we could all enjoy after-work evening hours. Not as big of an issue during summer but I barely got there during the winter because of this ~ part of the reason I did not repurchase this year. Waste bag dispenser is a plus but it would help if it was actually stocked when ya need it... My dog enjoyed the few toys that are provided and the little obstacle course there as well. Had a lot of issues with my key either not working or being almost impossible to use ~ I heard it's a little easier this time around but I had to leave without even using the park quite a few times last year due to being unable to open to gate. Thought that was just ridiculous. Overall a great addition to the town but many improvements still need to be made. read more
