Fish is generally VERY good, but I've also been served a couple over cooked dried out filets. I really enjoy their southwest egg rolls, but tried the Reuben egg rolls and found them to be mostly kraut, which was quite disappointing. Went on a Wednesday and that's their wing night, decided to try the boneless and that was a mistake, they were just hard little nuggets, likely not made in house. I mean if you're going to bother having wing night, and offer boneless, consider hand battering some strips of chicken or at least buy some decent length frozen strips, these were sad little McNugget imposters, glad they were on sale for wing night or I would've been upset, definitely not close to an equivalent bone-in wing. Their nacho plate is huge and recommend that based on the quantity of food. The all you can eat fish is good and the southwest egg-rolls are good. I imagine they can pull off a burger and the desserts have all been good. Not sure why they even attempt things like General Tsos, the good waitresses will steer you clear of that. They need to be a little less experimental, a smaller menu produced reliably would be better than stretching themselves into failures. As a customer you're advised to stay in more traditional territory. I love the vibe of this place and they have a nice patio out in the back, a decent beer selection, but I have had some of their weirder experimental drinks that just didn't come off right. I want to love this place completely, but they need to dial it in a bit and not offer so many things they can't really pull off.

We ordered 2 sides of sauces for our burgers and when one of the girls dropped off our food she said she'd be right back with them and then no one came to our table after that. Then we were waiting to eat our burgers and we could see the waitress going to different tables but not approaching us and we couldn't flag her down. I ended up having to get up and walk all the way to the back of the restaurant to get attention from anyone and finally get our sauces. This was around 4:45 on Saturday, When we returned at 5:15, they'd switched to a dinner menu with higher prices and totally different food. No cheese curds. No Rueben sandwiches. Even after explaining ourselves, they wouldn't have any exceptions. One of the staff actually got short with Mrs. E. something that's very hard to do. You'd think the server or the hostess would explain that there are two menus and that they are about to switch over... At this point, we quietly excused ourselves and avoided further embarrassment. The restaurant…read moredefinitely has a casual bar atmosphere, with sports on the TVs, Keno, a pool table, darts, and plenty of bar-style seating. There weren't a ton of dinner options in town, so we decided to give it a try with our children. The service was excellent throughout our visit. Jessica and Elle both waited on our table, and they were prompt, attentive, and very polite. We started with the Bavarian pretzel for the kids, which came with cheese. It was pretty standard as far as pretzels go - not anything amazing, but certainly not bad either. Two of our children ordered the Koegel Vienna Hot Dogs with French fries, and our third ordered a children's portion of chicken tenders and fries. There isn't a traditional children's menu, but the staff explained that they can make smaller portions for kids, such as two chicken strips instead of four. My husband ordered the special, a Chicken Cordon Bleu Sandwich with French fries, and I ordered the Pecan Chicken Salad with the dressing on the side. Jessica recommended getting a side of ranch as well in case the raspberry dressing was too sweet for me, which turned out to be a great suggestion. The kids' hot dogs were surprisingly good and definitely better than the standard ballpark-style hot dog we were expecting. The chicken tenders were pretty standard frozen tenders, and the fries were good but nothing particularly unique. My husband really enjoyed his Chicken Cordon Bleu Sandwich. It tasted freshly made, and he said he would absolutely order it again. My Pecan Chicken Salad was the highlight of the meal for me - it was amazing! I had actually been craving a salad, which is unusual for me since I normally prefer a hot dinner, and this completely hit the spot. The raspberry dressing was delicious and sweet, while the ranch Jessica suggested made the salad a little more savory. I genuinely couldn't decide which I liked better and ended up mixing the two dressings together by the end of the meal! The restaurant itself could certainly use some updating, but everything was clean, the food came out quickly, the prices were reasonable, and the atmosphere was casual and relaxing. Most importantly, the staff was friendly and attentive. Overall, we had a good experience and would return if we were in Harbor Beach again. We'd recommend Smalley's to anyone looking for a casual, reasonably priced meal with good service.
