I bought my beach cruiser here about 6 years ago and it's been a great ride, very high quality and beautiful bike. I just stopped in because my front tire was very flat and it was taking a long time to fill using a hand pump. They checked for any leaks and quickly assured me the tire just needed a lot of air. They filled up both of my tires, and wiped down my frame, and lubed my chain. I love this place because they are so so nice. I wouldn't go anywhere else! read more

The owner is incredibly rude and arrogant. I set an appointment 2 weeks ago in person. I called this afternoon to see if I could drop it off tonight for tomorrow mornings appointment. The employee confirmed it was okay. I go down there with the bike and the owner basically tells me I'm a liar and I don't have an appointment. Instead of asking the other employee(s) who answer the phones if they recall the appointment or any details, he assumes I have no appointment and proceeds to tell me I can now make another appointment. I bought the bike from them and have been coming every year since. I will not support this business ever again. read more

They don't honor their service . l had a road bicycle in for service in March 2024 and discovered a problem created by the shop. I called to tell the staff about the problem and was told that they were busy and I had to bring the bike back on another service order. I took the bike back to the shop and they didn't honor there service they did on the bicycle. They wanted to charge me for something that was created from the initial service repair. So I decided to read all the other reviews before I posted my experience and EVERY bad review has one common theme, Greg the owner being the most arrogant bike shop owner alive! Greg, Dont you see you are the problem there?? Ur attitude, lack of customer service and being the extremely arrogant towards your customers! It is a shame, your store is clean, your prices are competitive but your attitude drives customers away, do your employees a favor, DONT SHOW UP, Stay Home! Your staff is great, its a shame they have to deal with you losing thier customers. I went to Beachwood Bikes a year ago and shopping for a new pedal assist e-bike, after speaking with Greg and his complete lack of enthusiasm I decided to purchase a Trek Townie Electra and absolutely loved it, I bragged and raved all over Facebook how fun the bike was and how Beachwood took care of the sale. After a few months of riding I noticed I was barely getting half the time of battery life as opposed to how Greg sold it. I was out riding one day and had my bike on my truck so I decided to stop in and ask for help. After walking in I was treated rudely for just showing up with my bike as opposed to making an appointment. I spoke with Greg about the battery life issue and this is the response I got, "You probably just dont know how to ride a bike properly" SERIOUSLY??? Thats the response I got??? He said I need to be at a certain RPM or I was not riding properly, HUH??? How about I just want to have fun riding, I did not want to make a science project out of my fun!! The attitude and lack of professionalism in his response completly changed my attitude towards him and the shop. I asked him about a extra battery back-up for the bike, he said Trek was not selling them for several more months. I called my local bike shop in Allentown NJ and asked about the battery, they had one in stock so I bought it and installed it, obviously Greg is very misinformed about his manufacturers products he claims to be an expert in! After several more months of riding with the extra battery I was still getting half the life as expected, it was time for the "tune-up" and inspections that was included in the original price. I emailed Greg to set an appt and explain whats going on. His first question was did I buy the extra battery from them?? No I did not since you gave me bad info. I said I got it from another bike store who was more educated on the products, he then asked if the installed it correctly and performed the updates?? I laughed and ask why he asked that since it is literally plug n play battery with no firmware update required, again Greg is extremely unknowlegeable on the products he sells. Greg in his email AGAIN said its because Im not riding my bike properly, I responded back "I want to have fun" .I called Trek and spoke to tech support, they confirmed no install or update was required for this battery, again Greg "wrong"! So then we scheduled the drop off date, once I realized the date was a holiday I rescheduled it. I called the store 2 weeks ago on a Monday before I dropped it off and they never called back after 3 days of leaving messages, they are extremely non responsive to customer concerns. So I went to drop my bike off and walked in store, sales guy at counter was going over the work order and I was questioning it due to all the improper and incorrect info I received from arrogant Greg. Greg overheard the conversation and came storming out of the back and told me to leave the store and he was no honoring his agreement with the original sale to perform a service I informed Greg of how arrogant he is and how bad his attitude it, he is a bitter angry guy! He seems to be a guy who loved to bicycle in the past but now lost the passion and he takes it out of the customers as you can see in all his bad reviews. Greg said I had an attitude when I came in, REALLY GREG?? Tell me 2 times I dont know how to ride a bike, what do you expect???? Excellent experience this visit and one prior! Despite how busy Jersey shore bike shops are during the summer, our bike was serviced upon arrival and we waited while the work was quickly done. I called to ask them if they could change the back tire of my ebike. The man who answered said that because it was a Schwinn he would do it, that they typically only repair bikes that are bought from them. Once we arrived we immediately were rudely approached by another man telling us no that they will not work on a Schwinn ebike. After I insisted and him arguing back with me that I would like to know why I was told to bring it in, he came back and told me that he "would make an exception this one time". Then he again got rude after he realized that he didn't have the tire size in stock. This was worst customer service I have ever encountered. Save yourself time and aggravation. Go to Padi. They got me in right away, changed my tire in front of me, we're very friendly, and reasonable in price. read more

My boyfriend and I went into the shop because my boyfriend had a issue with his bike while riding. The "owner" couldn't care less to look up from his computer, & in a sarcastic manner told my boyfriend he wasn't going to help him, drop off the bike & it may be done a week to 10 days. A friend referred me to them for a repair as I now live in the area and Beachwood is the closest shop. Consistent with the bulk of their yelp reviews and other friends in the bike industry, I found the owner to be overtly condescending. And the worrisome part is I don't think he even realizes it. I used to use Brielle Bikes and always liked their shop and group rides. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and the kind of place that makes you feel good. After moving, out of convenience, I began supporting my local shop, Beachwood Bikes. The experience has been totally unpleasant. I have to say if you deal with most of the mechanics, they do a great job. Adam is great. The owner Greg, on the other hand, is an obnoxious, condescending clown. I was in need of a new chain. I went in and Greg, the owner, started rattling off things that were wrong with the bike. When I pointed out that he had done the work, he became belligerent. He said "you have low level components." I told him this is the stuff he put on. He said I should have gotten higher level components. I told him I came in with Ultegra components and I didn't ask for cheaper stuff. He tends to give you whatever he has available without asking the customer. He also throws in this bit of malarkey. He states that the chain ring he put on my bike wore out in less than 6000 miles because I have a slow cadence. Laughable He stated that they do good work and jumped to "your headset is loose". I told him you put in a new bearing last November and left part of the old bearing in place, his work again. At this point he says I don't want to work on your bike. I added that he works on bikes and when his inferior products don't last, he blames the customers. To his credit I said I came in for a new chain, but I didn't know what chain to use because he had changed all the components, Ultegra to FSA. He did tell me what chain to use. I ordered it on Amazon, it will be here tomorrow. That said I will look for another shop or maybe head back to Brielle (so much for supporting the shop a 1/2 mile from my home). Again I state his mechanic, Adam, is a conscientious, friendly guy and I wish I'd dealt with him. read more

I e-mailed the owner if they have a hanger for an sworks tarmac SL5 and told him if there is a 7A mark on it, he told me that there is so i ask my friend to pick it up for me since i don't have the time. He gave the SCS hanger instead which doesn't fit my bicycle frame. He could have been honest and told me straight up that he doesn't have one. Twice I have been in the shop and twice the owner has talked down to me, even telling me the one to two hours of repair (at $60 an hour) wasn't worth their time. Sadly he carries the air that he is above his customers and doesn't seem interested in fostering the good feelings of a local shop. I was new to Beachwood Bikes when I bought my road bike here. Due to the 3-year service contract that came with the bike I had all tune-ups and repairs (just a few tiny ones due to normal wear and tear) done by Beachwood Bikes. Over those years I came to know the shop as being helpful, friendly, very fair prices, and great knowledge. Now with Covid they are understandably crazy busy but they still take care of me as needed. Owner needs to learn some respect ... Let me preface my experience with the fact that I have bought two bicycles from this place totaling over $1300 in the past 4 years... I also say this because the owner is not the one to sell me the bikes because if he had I'm sure he would treat me a lot different (then again maybe not). Three weeks ago I stopped in with my fiancé because she really wanted a beach cruiser. I was told that the bike would be in within a week and that I needed to put down a deposit so they could order the bike. I called eight days after I put down the original deposit and was told that the bike had not yet been ordered because they "couldn't place it until they had more customer orders and it wasn't worth placing a special order for 1 bike unless I wanted to pay for the shipping to the store". This is not what I agreed to it all, so I called around and found that the bicycle shop in Belmar, New Jersey happened to have the exact bike and color that I had put as an order with Beachwood bicycle. I then called back Beachwood bicycle and told them that I did find the exact same bike up in Belmar and wondered if I could cancel my order... The original sales person (Chelsea) got on the phone with me and placed me on hold 4 times (she was obviously asking a manager or owner what to do) and left me on hold each time about 5-6 minutes... Chelsea then advised me that they would be able to cancel the order and that I would be refunded for my deposit... After the final hold she got back on and then asked me if it would be okay to give me back my deposit in cash so that they did not have to be charged a fee for the credit card transaction (my deposit was held with an American Express card) . Even though it's an inconvenience for me to go back down to the bike store I told them it would be no problem and I would come down and pick up the cash... Well today I went in to pick up my deposit in cash and was told by the owner that I would have to pay a 10% fee. I explained to him the situation in about 20 words and before I could finish he rudely interrupted and said "I'm the owner and it's my decision"... I simply told him "no problem I will dispute the charge with American Express" and before I was done speaking he was already looking behind me at the next customer and said "do what you have to do". As a person who owns their own business I would never treat a customer that way or speak down to someone. This guy needs to learn how to respect his customers and follow through with what he says he will do. There is nothing worst than buying from somewhere that you can't even trust. Side note, I did wind up buying the bike at a bicycle shop in Belmar and the price of the bike was $35 cheaper... As I have shared my experience with some neighbors they told me I should have gone down to Lacey because apparently the owners reputation of being a jacka$$ precedes him. read more

We went there and saw a bike I liked on the computer they had to build it and said to come back the next day. The next day came and the sold the bike to another person. I used to think it was just me but after reading some of these one star reviews I don't feel so alone. If you don't spend thousands of dollars on one of his bikes he doesn't want to know you. For three years every time I went there he was condescending to me. He acted like he was too high class to work on a Schwinn. The shop is close by and convenient so I bit my lip and swallowed my pride because I didn't want to spite myself. The last straw was when I got a flat tire. I called the shop to make sure they were still opened and rushed to get my bike there in time. When I got there the owner was vacuuming the floor and just yelled something and at me about the repair shop being closed over the sound of the vacuum, he wouldn't even turn it off to talk to me. When the bike mechanic walked out the owner yelled at him to tell me the repair shop was that closed for renovations. The guy closed his shop in my face, it didn't matter that I just called to make sure they were open. The owner is a first class jerk it's a wonder how he expects to stay in business. read more

If you want a bike I would strongly suggest avoiding Beachwood Bicycles. I went over there yesterday and decided on the bike I wanted, discussed all the details of it and chose accessories, he stated it would be ready for pick up today, he provided me my quote via email like he said he was doing for customers and I responded immediately with the go ahead. This was at 5:30pm. Just now at 11:30am the following day I get an email that he sold the bike to someone else. So I respond that I'm very frustrated and may need to look elsewhere. So after all that he responded with a long email explaining how inundated they are (understandable with covid) BUT "I was dealing with emails until 11pm last night (We email exchanged at 530pm)...the last thing I ever like to do is lose a customer especially by no fault of my own". Take some ownership! Unreal! Very poor way of handling business. I took my business to Manasquan Bike Shop who not only had the bike I was looking for but it was even cheaper Glad I didn't give Beachwood Bikes my money. read more

We lost our bicycles during Sandy. Ready to replace our old ones, we began shopping around. We first had to get over sticker shock. That took a few months. We were beginning to get quite discouraged. We were buying three adult bicycles. One would think this might be a decent sale for an independently owned bike store. I do not understand the laissez faire approach I found in every bike shop I visited. One place just poined to an area and said, "What you want is over there." Is it? I am not sure what I want. I need some help. "You probably should have researched it on the internet before you came in to buy a bike." Seriously? That is customer service? Fortunately today we landed in Beechwood Bicycles. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They actually seemd to want our business. They actually smiled at us. They chatted with us a bit and then determined what type of bike would work best for our needs. They made several reccomendations based on our answers. They willing showed us a remarable variety of bikes. We were encouraged to test drive the ones were were considering. They even fitted our bike helmets for us. The other reviews had me worried but we have bought 4 bikes with helmets there and plan on a 5th bike/helmet purchase this weekend as well as Thule bike carrier. As a plus sized person, everywhere else has been very dismissive of my needs but Adam, Kelsi, and Eric couldn't be more accommodating, knowledgeable and kind! I think Greg is a bit distant but I don't care: he knows bikes and hasn't given us any bad info. As for pricing, we've shopped around and they are reasonable when you add 2 years of free labor into the cost of the bike. Overall, we are very pleased with BB and highly recommend them. read more

I had a really negative experience buying a bike from this shop. While browsing, I found a bike in a particular color that I really liked but it was a size too small- I was told I could order it in a larger size if I paid for the shipping so I put down a deposit. When I came back to the shop to pick up the bike, I was surprised to see it was not the color that I had seen in person the previous week. The color I saw when I initially placed the order was from 2015 and was discontinued for 2016- but no one at the shop told me that it was no longer available. I did not want to lose my deposit, so I paid for the bike and immediately asked if I could exchange it for another color or get store credit to pick out another bike. The owner would not allow me to do an in store exchange because he didn't think the color would sell well- he also told me that shipping the bike back to the manufacturer and restocking it would cost me even more money which I couldn't justify paying. I really don't think it is fair that the cost of returning the bike should be on me when the shop failed to mention that the color I wanted was discontinued. The owner was very unapologetic about the situation and took no responsibility. Out of all of the small businesses I have ever shopped at, this is definitely the worst customer service I have ever seen- I wouldn't recommend Beachwood Bicycles. read more

Ok so a subsequent visit to Beachwood Bicycles today to seems to corroborate other reviews about the owner's personality. While his staff is friendly and helpful, he is is much colder and less helpful than they. The store had no other customers at the time we were there, and considering I had just spent over $1,000 just a few days ago I would have thought he would have been much more courteous and helpful to fit my friend's bike. My latest experience colors my initial one last week differently. Customer service is just as important as product quality, price and selection, and while II would like to say it's a one-off all the recent negative reviews suggest that this is the type of person he is. Perhaps a customer needs to become a regular, but that's in my opinion poor management. If you can handle that then Beachwood Bicycles should be fine for your needs, but if you want more in terms of personable customer support from senior management then I recommend you look elsewhere. read more

I messaged with this shop on a used bike they were selling online. I made them an offer, they countered and I accepted. Then they messaged that the bike had been sold. This is suspicious becuase the bike had been online for 2 months. I'm guessing they used my offer to squeeze someone else who had been on the fence. Also they described this 4yo bike as having under 1000 miles, but wear on the crank indicated heavy usage. Buyer beware with this shop. read more

My son and I were looking to step up to a more capable full suspension mountain bike and these folks were very helpful from the start. They took substantial time to discuss options over the phone on a couple of occasions. When we expressed interest in a Yeti SB-95, they provided great info on that model and other options, and when we came into the store they set us up on a couple of models and set us free to explore. We learned that the SB-75 was actually a better fit for us, and put an order in. They got it in, built it immediately, and we've absolutely loved it so far. It simply crushes trails we used pick our way down, and climbs wonderfully. If you're looking for great, knowledgeable, no pressure service, and some of the tougher to find high end brands, this is the place. It was well worth the trip down from North Jersey for us. read more

Great LBS. I have dealt with this shop for a few years now and have no qualms about sending anyone there. They deal with quality and not walmart bikes., which confuses some people that don't understand that some bikes aren't worth spending the time and money on to fix. Good starter bikes are at this shop and the owner is a little quirky sometimes but extremely knowledgeable about bikes period.
