A nice little hotel situated in the heart of Houghton Lake, MI. I had a nice experience while staying here while I was in town. The hotel offers beachfront access for all of the out-of-town guests along with a volleyball court, fire pit, in-door pool, complimentary breakfast, and free-parking. The front desk agents were very professional and accommodating with my requests. I enjoyed my stay and would recommend staying here if you're in the area. Close to restaurants, gas station, and shops. The reason for my 4-star review and not a 5? The carpet inside the hotel room had stains and the shade lamps were a bit old.

We only stayed for one night, we were up visiting family 25 minutes away and there's not too many hotels to choose from. This is our first time staying here . I was little worried at first bc I'm a sucker for reviews and some of the reviews on here weren't the greatest but I heard that they did some renovating. I booked through a third party but had some questions so I called the hotel a few times before arriving and each time I called (different days) I spoke to a Hunter. He was so very kind and very helpful! Football playoffs is going on so my husband wanted to make sure they had smart TVs to sign onto prime in the room and he actually took the time and went to check for me. The pool area is very nice! We came the weekend after they just finished remodeling the pool area and it was very nice! The pool was refreshing because it is pretty warm in that room anyways with the hot tub and all. The hot tub lit up and my kids just really enjoyed the whole pool area. This is one of the reasons we stayed at this location bc there is a pool. The rooms were clean and the shower looked new (the shower insert). Glad to see bc having a clean looking bathroom is a must for me. The fridge in the room had a separate freezer too! Nice for when traveling and you have ice packs to freeze again. Breakfast was okay...it filled us up but it wasn't like a full breakfast with eggs/sausage/biscuits etc... just waffles, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, muffins, more like easy simple breakfast. Good enough. We had a balcony, unfortunately it's winter and there was a ton of snow outside but I had to check it out. I went outside on the balcony for a few, it was pretty cool to see all the ice fishers out there. The only downfall was the door. Seemed hard to open and looked older but not too big of an issue, maybe a future thing to replace. With this being said, we would stay here again. Oh and the lady who worked on 1/11 into 1/12 (the midnight shift) was very, very nice! I wish I would've gotten her name. I know she used to live in California after talking to her. I talked to her a few times in and out and then coming to get coffee and towels, she was just very friendly, helpful and bubbly.

Terrible, overpriced. Openly mocked by the front desk clerk after telling her my mom was a repeat customer. Go to the pool and the pool has chipped pair in the pool and hot tub, only two jets in the hot tub work. Really kind of disgusting in appearance. Then a family comes in with 20 little kids screaming. The parents seem to not care or watch the kids running and screaming. Then they get into the gross hot tub with me and continue to bump into me repeatedly and I get sneezed on twice lol!!! I will give you yes I am a grump but damn. Talked to the front desk in regards to the child party at the pool and how long it wouldnt be accessible unless you wanted to watch other people's kids scream and bump into you. She just smirked and said "I don't hear anything" Don't stay here way over priced and they don't give a shit about you. Don't get the hot tub suites, they are facing the road and have no balcony, and more like a bathtub, with a hole in the wall. PS: use the baggie for the ice my ice tub had what looked like beard clippings in it.

This is what we woke up to outside our room. Nice.

Hoping to prevent someone else having the same experience - I can't recommend staying here. We drove into town and stayed here on a Friday evening for a funeral the next morning. We booked our room online which was surprisingly easy. However, we were unpleasantly surprised when we arrived to our room to find a loud party of adults, drunk, carrying on right outside our room (we had a beachfront walkout). They had also propped open the hallway door on our floor which not only was unsafe, but let a ton of mosquitoes in, as well as the smell from the dumpsters outside. My husband let someone at the front desk know, and nothing was done. The party carried on until at least 1am, which did not allow us or our baby to get much sleep despite trying to drown out the sound with the room fan. We woke up early next morning to get ready for the funeral service, to a broken screen door that literally fell off when we tried opening it, and trash from the party the night before. I wrote the hotel shortly after our stay to express my disappointment and give them a chance to make it right, but never heard back. Please do yourself a favor and find another place to stay!

We love this hotel it's one of our favorites especially the rooms facing the lake! The staff here are so generous and make you feel at home. This hotel is really nice for snowmobiling, ice fishing and in the summer you can swim, boat or just sit and people watch The beds are real comfortable also and they offer a Continental breakfast too.

Staff was very friendly, beach was clean and serene! Made s'mores our last day, sat and watched the stars with the bonfire going on the beach. Fantastic! Making it my business to make this a once-a-year trip for sure! Fourth or July is supposed to be awesome, hoping to come up here again then.

If you are used to (or looking for) hotel chains like a Holiday Inn, Hilton, Sheraton, etc in this area.. well, you are SOL. Luckily this hotel is a great option which will leave you pleasantly surprised. Fancy it is not, clean and staffed with friendly people it is! Another plus is that the hotel sits right on Houghton Lake, and many rooms look out on this beautiful water and include a private balcony. A quick and simple cold continental breakfast is included in your stay and the beds are quite comfy. The hotel has its own private beach and has a pool and a modest gaming room for the kids. Overall we enjoyed our stay here!

Firepit on Beach

We loved this place, the 1st floor walkout to the beach was great. Had a fire pit at night. The only down side was there were bugs, a spider and a Centipede in the room. I am sure it is from the sliding glass door being so close to the lake. Other people probably leave it open a lot. Also they have no breakfast during Covid. But that is understandable. But no discount for that or the creepy crawlies.... Lady manager at front desk was a doll however, staff very friendly. Even the guy working outside was nice.

The water park and slide is actually a lot of fun! Even if you're an adult. :P The view is beautiful! I definitely recommend getting the lake view rooms. Watching the sun rise and set every day is so peaceful. The feel of the hotel has the up north yet elegant touch. The restaurant has the BEST food. It's better than restaurants in the city. Very reasonably priced too. It's on the water and they keep it very clean. The whole staff had a smile on their face the entire time. On Friday, I had to wait about 10 minutes to be sat but the hostess promptly led me to the bar for a drink before and suggested I waited in the attached room with the pool table, which I did. It was perfect timing for me to have a pre dinner drink and a game of pool. I can't think of anything negative to write. There was a lot goose poop on the grass and sidewalk in the early morning when I took my dogs out; but by 8 am the groundskeeper cleaned it ALL up. I will definitely be back again. It is now my go-to getaway. :)

The mattresses were so uncomfortable that it felt like we were sleeping on a deflated air mattress, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep. My husband has back issues, and because there was no elevator, he had to repeatedly use the stairs, which made our stay much more difficult. The kids did enjoy the pool, but one of my children scraped himself while trying to get out because the pool ladder was loose and appeared to be falling apart. Breakfast was okay but could definitely use more variety. I was also uncomfortable that a front desk employee had a dog at the hotel that barked at guests, and she would pet the dog they go on to prepping things for the breakfast buffet. IThe dog braking at everyone and her yelling frightened my 3-year-old child. I requested a cot, but it was so old, worn out, and smelled bad that we could not use it. Despite that, we were still charged for it. To top it off, the shower appeared unclean when we arrived and looked like it may have had urine in it. When I brought the issue to the staff's attention, I was simply handed cleaning supplies and expected to clean it myself. For nearly $400 for a Friday through Sunday stay, I expected much better accommodations, cleanliness, maintenance, and customer service. Unfortunately, based on our experience, I would not stay here again.

At the time we thought it was a tick so we were not super worried. Woke up the next day with large itchy bites on both of us. Next night I woke up in the middle of the night scratching myself. The morning light showed that I was covered in bites. So itchy and uncomfortable!! It was not until later that we discovered it was actually a bed bug instead of tick. If we had known we would have moved rooms or found a different hotel. Be careful if you stay here because chances are you'll be eaten alive by bed bugs!! -UPDATE- After contacting the manager about the situation, I'm even more frustrated with this place. They said because they did not see any bed bugs in the room, that they must not have them. They refuse to refund the room! They refuse to take any responsibility. Shameful. Really upset about this and will continue to update as this unfolds because I'm not letting this go when this 2 night visit has not only traumatized me but caused me enormous financial burden between treating my home, new luggage, a doctors visit, and more!! Unreal.
