Pros- there was plenty of space for our group of 20+ people to spread out on the property.  We had plenty of room for parking and were only a mile from a grocery store when we needed supplies. There were plenty of bath towels for our use and the AC on the second floor worked well.  There were board games, books and yard games for our group to use. Cons- the property felt rundown and neglected.  The lawn was too high when we arrived and was never mowed during the week we were there. Since we planned to spend a lot of time outside this was disappointing.  The deck on the Lake House is in need of serious repair.  There were pots full of dirt and weeds scattered around and the landscaping was so overgrown we could barely see the lake when sitting on the furniture.  There are some very soft spots in the decking that I was worried someone might actually go through.  The kitchen has an apartment size stove/oven which we were not expecting. The oven wouldn't even fit a standard baking sheet. Our kitchen seemed to be missing a lot of items: can opener, spatulas, a large bowl for mixing, sauce pans, etc.  We also didn't have a single clothes hanger in any of our closets or any floor fans, even though we were told there was at least one for us to use. We were told things get moved around from house to house when groups stay there, which is understandable. I think they need a list of basic items that should be in the house when the cleaning is done so it's ready for the next guests though. Luckily we knew the people in the other rentals and could borrow things from them. The AC on the main floor did not work well. The showers/bathtubs need to be updated.  The grout was stained/dirty and the shower head on the main floor bath was the smallest one I've ever seen.  The living room was a good size but so full of furniture it was hard to move around.  There are also electrical cords running along the walls on both sides of the TV.  You can tell they had to run those for the TV hook ups which is fine, but could be a problem if you have little kids in your group.  None of the outdoor spaces on the property were very well kept up or inviting places to hang out. Overall I feel like it was a good home base if you are going to spend the majority of your time offsite. This property has tremendous potential and would make an awesome small event venue if repairs were made and the grounds were properly cared for. If I was looking for a property for a group of 20-25 people I would stay here again because it is hard to find a place to accommodate that many people. But if I were looking for a place for just my family I would stay elsewhere.

What an incredible stop on our trip! We kind of took a gamble on this, one because for whatever…read morereason their website wasn't coming up on our phones and the google review was only one picture. But it paid off big time. For starters Ernie and Vivian were incredible host, honestly made us feel right at home the second we walked in. The Inn itself, is the perfect combination of old and new, well preserved antiques with modern amenities. We stayed in the spinning wheel room and it was very nice. Of course seeing threw the tub, into the bathroom, from the bedroom, wasn't a typical accommodation we understood that it was a temporary fix. They are planning on remolding the bathroom throughout the house soon. On the other hand, the bed was pretty rough. I hate to mention anything negative about this place but I had to at least prepare you for your sleep. Saying it's hard, would be an understatement. If they were to update the mattresses around the time they are planning on the bathrooms this would be in my top 3 B&B's we have stayed at. It's still in my top 5, but the bed is holding it back. However once you wake up crack your back and stretch out a bit you quickly forget there could've been anything wrong. The breakfast was a decadent feast with homemade jam, whipped cream, and even maple syrup. Then to burn it all off, there beautiful home is located on 127 acres of even more beautiful woods equipped with trails for easier walking. We will definitely be staying here again if we are even remotely close to this area again. Thank you Ernie and Vivian!

I read about this place in an article about out-of-the-way pet-friendly places in Michigan…read more Unfortunately, this place is certainly not pet- or human-friendly. On arrival, the manager (owner?) checked me in - not friendly, and told me that the dog couldn't go behind the motel. Um, what? That's the whole reason I booked this place - spend some time outside with the dog near a lake; do some swimming. And while I was able to do that, I was banished from hanging out with any of the other guests (pavilion and bonfire area "off limits" to us.) The room was very stinky - mold/mildew and old cigarette smoke smell (I have a very strong sense of smell, so if you don't maybe it would be okay for you.) The shower is barely big enough for me, and I weigh 140lbs at 5'7". The A/C didn't work, so it kept running all night and day no matter how high I set the temp. Fridge also did not keep things cold and ran all the time... so let's just say I didn't get much sleep. The hard bed and super flat pillows didn't help either. Finally, on check out, the owner yelled at me for two reasons. First, because I told him an email from the hotel said that they charged me a deposit and would give it back when they checked the room on check-out. He told me the email did not say that. Well, I went and checked when I got home - it sure does say that. Second, he told me that I broke his stupid rules by going under the pavilion. I told him we went there because it was raining. He told me it was not raining. And while I will agree that I did go under the pavilion and broke his rules - I was perfectly happy to the side of the pavilion because it was away from the ashtrays (ick.) Just was trying to get out of the rain. Additionally, we were completely alone at the motel - so it's not like I was scaring anyone away with my very vicious 40-lb goldendoodle. Yeah, makes a lot of sense to yell at someone over something so trivial and harmless. This guy is simply not friendly and I would never return. The lake view and small beach were nice... but there are other places where customer service and kindness are present.

Along Bus-127, the motel and cabins are nestled along the 175 acre Budd Lake (which is also famous for Wilson State Park and muskie fishing). Area trails afford hiking and bicycling through the extensive woods. Snowmobiling is also possible, with well groomed trails in the colder months. I arrived on a Saturday night, a rainy night. Calling ahead for reservations, I was able to get the last room available, right next to the front office. Room 103, a double double. While I certainly didn't require two double beds, they could accommodate me and three of my closest friends. The room was pleasant enough and will remain on my list of lodging for future reference.

They have both a restaurant and a bar downstairs by the front desk and the food is absolutely delectable. I could eat their onion rings all day every day! The rooms can be slightly pricey, but that's to be expected in a smaller town. I think the best value is with their jacuzzi rooms, which aren't much more expensive than standard rooms. Service is exceptional, as well. I've yet to meet someone there who isn't both respectful and kind. Since we live nearby, we frequently take the kids there to go swimming for a few hours. Again, a tad pricey, but better than a long trek out of town to a public pool. To add a bit of fun to the stay, some swear it's haunted! Do you believe in ghosts?

We only had one drink, she left the bill in the glass and never returned to cash us out. She knew we were only having one drink. We had to ask to be checked out and she never said thank you all she said was here's your card. Apparently she doesn't care about making money as her tip could've been doubled from the $2 we left her. Tips are still based on service not to be expected. No one said goodbye as we left. The establishment was mostly older people. The decor hadn't been updated in any way and felt like it has looked like this for many years which made it look tired and worn rather than the vibe of a thriving business. Historical doesn't necessarily mean run down.

Very easy to book online and be sure to get a rewards sign up. We did a package that included pizza and pop, a chicken dinner at Zehnders, and a breakfast buffet for both mornings. The hotel is easy to spot next to Bronner's. The theme of gnomes and fairies is so adorable. Staff are awesome! They were so sweet to my daughter and us. Whether it was our waitress, lifeguards at the waterpark, or the front desk. We were able to check in early, so be sure to ask! Our room was one of the older rooms and was one of the ADA compliant rooms, which has larger doorways, no bathtub, a queen bed, and a seating area with a fireplace. The room decorations and everything in it are original. It's very desperately needs to get a facelift. The room was right off of the front desk in waterpark, so walking to the action only took a few steps. I noticed there is no recycling bin. There was a mini refrigerator, but the temperature control wasn't the greatest. Carpet was buckling. The seating area did have a pullout couch, but the couch itself was slippery with the fabric and pretty uncomfortable. Not sure how well house keeping was. There was a Nerf gun instructions paperwork behind one of our bedside nightstands. The water pressure was awesome. The bedding felt clean and the bed overall was comfortable. Housekeeping was able to give us a few more towels off their cleaning cart, which was nice. There is an arcade, but it's definitely not as big as the other hotel down the street. It's very crammed into one room. The pizza and cheese bread was absolutely delicious. Was not expecting that for a kid themed hotel. The breakfast buffet was plentiful, but the buffet items don't change. So the second day we were already kind of sick of the options. They do a nightly movie night in the lobby at 8 PM. If our daughter was older, we definitely would've snuggled up in the lobby to watch the movie. The waterpark was our favorite. Our daughter is just over two, and I was so surprised at how many things she was able to do. She even got to go on a waterslide with us, holding her to go down. Also, she was able to go down a waterslide all by herself, so she thought she was super cool! At the hotel down the street, there's barely anything for a two-year-old to do at their waterpark. She absolutely loved being able to wade in the water with the toddler pool going up to 2 feet. She also was brave enough to go under the big bucket that splashes. We stayed two nights and I think we went to the waterpark at least four or five times and she never got sick of it. There is a security checkpoint for the waterpark. Security will put UV light on your wristband to make sure it's not a fake also go through any bags that you're bringing into the waterpark. Do not bring towel towels, the waterpark provides towels for you. Additionally, they provide lifejackets. There are plenty of tables and chairs all along both water parks, the old side and the new side. The new side wasn't as toddler friendly. There was a small slide she could go down, otherwise there really wasn't much else for her to do. We had a great stay and I think with them updating all of the hotel rooms, I think Zehnder's is the place to be!

This truly breaks my heart to write because we have loved this facility for so many years…read more We have been bringing our children here annually (sometimes multiple times a year) since 2013. But recently in the last few years, we have noticed a shift (some things they may not directly have control over). But this past weekend was bad and we felt it was time to update our review to reflect what is happening now. From the second you walk into their lobby, throughout the hallways, seeping into the rooms, and even penetrating the waterpark areas, all you can smell is that legalized recreational product (I'm sure you can guess what I'm talking about). It's disgusting, lingering scent persisting everywhere. It clings onto your clothing, suitcase, EVERYTHING. And if you get a room that was previously occupied by guests who partake in that, it reeks of it for your whole stay! Adding to this, you can continuously find bandaids, hair and hair extensions floating in the water and lying around on the ground. Many children/teens are running wild (being very disrespectful) with no adult in sight. This place has lost its charm for us and it truly is sad. This was a vacation we looked forward to annually with our children and have created so many beautiful memories but sadly, it no longer does and then to add the price continuously increasing (which we knew would happen). If the smell of recreational products, filthy areas, and disrespectful guests is your vibe, then this is the place for you. What once used to be our favorite has sadly shifted over the last few years.

If you just need a place to sleep this'll do just fine. PS - The mural of leprechauns in the lobby/breakfast room is a little bit creepy.
