Wonderful, small, and FREE museum, highlighting Jacksonville Beach in the early days. We loved seeing the pictures of the Jacksonville Beach boardwalk and what life was like then. Both my boys love history and I've been meaning to make a trip over to see this museum. It's quaint and packed with lots of information, including the Mocama Indians. Loved see the Beaches Chapel as well. We spent 2 hours today reading and learning so much. Every volunteer at the museum was so helpful. We enjoyed our visit and I think you will too.

Nice museum. The guide was very knowledgeable. A good activity beside shopping and the beach itself.

This is a neat museum of beach history and it's free ! Great for kids and adults. The only down side is that someone has to walk with you to unlock each location as you go. But they also serve as a tour guide which is nice

Great place to learn about Jacksonville! (Or should I say... Ruby, FL - you'll get it after the tour!! There was a lot of history and information presented. There's a complimentary 20 minute video and self guided mini tour. There's also guided tours available on the hour. Ours was lead by Paula and she was great! I learned a lot as we walked through a number of historic buildings (post office, chapel, shotgun home, train station and more!), saw an actual old train, and heard all sorts of new facts! Also, the chapel we toured was said to have a ghost in there!... Overall a great experience for adults. Some kids may be interested but it's very informational and not a lot you can touch even though it looks like cool stuff to explore. We went on Friday and it was a complimentary experience. Worth our time in Jacksonville!!

Wow, how cool is it that we here at the beach have our own museum? And I am willing to bet money that 60% haven't even been inside. Well, I decided to change that percentage and stopped by. The place had grown from the little yellow building they started in around 15 years ago! You walk in and land right in the gift shop! I was informed that it was part of the free places in the museum. LOL, I would hope so! What I thought was great was that the archives section is also free and they have a person on staff that is something of a Beaches Historian. When I found out they carry all the old Fletcher year books, I marched on up the stairs and proceeded to look up my dad and aunts pictures from Fletcher. What a hoot! They offer tours, but to roam on your own is $5.00. The tours include the old train station, the Florida East Coast Railroad Foreman's house, and one of the actual locomotives than ran down Old Beach Road (a.k.a. Atlantic Blvd). They offer different programs to local elementary schools to attend during the year along with teacher curriculum guides. Maybe I should take my kids, pay the $4 for them and we can all have a history lesson, as well as some fun.

I recently visited the museum for the first time a few weeks ago. I was looking for a venue for my son's 2nd birthday party. They had the one major thing my son is into right now: A Train! Betsy Towers in Visitors & Member Services was superb! After corresponding via email, I drove to the museum where she gave me a tour of the grounds and their 1911 steam train! She recommended I bring my son so I could see how he would react and if the location would be a good fit for him and his little friends. It was perfect so we booked it! Their fee was extremely reasonable. We could not have asked for a better party location! Betsy, along with the museum Docent, Margaret and Museum employee, Mike were there to make sure everyone had a wonderful time! They told us all about the train and the museum, answered questions, and were just fantastic! Our guests (and the birthday boy) had a fantastic time and especially loved ringing the bell on the train in Pablo Station! Afterward, we all went over to see the Railroad Club operating the HO model trains. It was fascinating! They typically meet on Saturdays between 11am and 3pm. It is free to the public and a real treat to anyone interested in trains! We highly recommend the Beaches Museum & Historical park for a daily visit or for a special event!

I'll admit, I've only visited specifically on Wednesdays Art Walk nights when admission is free, but it's genuinely hard to pass up when the experience is this enjoyable. The atmosphere during Art Walk is always lively and welcoming. I love that they bring in small local vendors in the lobby alongside the bar setup, which makes the entire museum feel more like a full community event than just a gallery visit. And speaking of the bar, I feel terrible that I can never remember the bartender's name, but that's because every single visit we end up laughing, chatting, and having such a good time that by the end of the night, what sticks with me most is her kindness, energy, and incredible service. She's become part of the experience itself. The exhibits are consistently engaging, thought-provoking, and entertaining without ever feeling pretentious. I especially appreciate the descriptions accompanying the pieces; they add context in a way that makes contemporary art feel approachable and immersive instead of intimidating. There's always something new to notice or discuss. At this point, going to MOCA on Art Walk Wednesdays is easily one of the top activities I look forward to most in downtown Jacksonville. It's creative, social, inspiring, and just an all-around great way to spend an evening.

Now since it was a lovely day, there were a lot of people here visiting. I was amazed by the beautiful courtyard but even more breathtaking garden. I see why this is a hot spot for wedding/engagement photos. The garden has the backdrop of the St. John's River and the beauty of the botanical garden is so peaceful. I would've hung out a bit longer if it was not so hot outside. Inside, there are some great exhibits on display like the feature Art in Bloom, Norman Studios (black movie posters collection) Italian to Egyptian art and artifacts, to the Tudor Room. This room is a chance to learn more about the Cummer family and their art collection. The museum also has a cafe and offer a children's learning area. I look forward to coming back for an event day at the museum but I highly recommend stopping by to this museum.
