Came to this bar late evening after a long flight from SFO. As tired as I was at 11pm, took a quick hot shower at our hotel and walked around. This bar was just a block away and could use a good drink, and this place closes late also! Ordered my usual shot of Jameson and IPA. Waitress for the night was very friendly and hospitable. Stayed in Miami Beach for 3 nights before our cruise and this bar was our go to each night. Service was really good each night with a different waitress. This is more like a dive bar feel when you come in, with a smell off the surrounding fish tanks around. This was hands down one of the worst bar experiences I've ever had. After a long flight to Miami and already feeling ripped off by staying at the Notebook Hotel next door, we hoped Beaches Bar and Grill would at least be a decent place to unwind. It wasn't. We waited over 15 minutes for someone to take our order, and when we politely tried to get the attention of one of the two waiters, she snapped that she was helping someone else. We weren't even trying to rush her, just hoping to get acknowledged. The food and drinks were ridiculously overpriced--$80 for two orders of wings and two margaritas. To top it off, the waiter pre-loaded a 20% gratuity onto the bill. We paid it because I wasn't about to fight over it, but let's be honest: she barely earned it with how inattentive and dismissive she was. I left feeling completely ripped off and will never be back. Let's say for example you wanted to be in a place with a juke box and a relaxed vibe, you didnt want to pay $38.00 for a salad and you wanted to be surrounded by nice bartenders and fish tanks? The service was non-existent, we arrived at 330pm on a Saturday and there was only one other party of five there and they left 10 minutes after we arrived. Which was also about how long it took to get the waitress to come see us. We waited 25 more minutes before getting the food we ordered, and we were the only ones there still. During that time she never came to check if we needed anything. She dropped our food off without saying a word and walked away . Then when I stood up to go ask her for more water she pointed at the table and told me to sit down. The food was a joke. I ordered the blackened mahi mahi sandwich that was in no way seasoned and blackened, my husband ordered a burger and it looked like they had steamed it, which I would have told her if she had ever come back. The only time we saw her after getting our food and being rudely treated when asking for water was to get the bill. Then comes even more fun, when I question the 18% service charge I was lied to and told it was a hotel charge, it is not, which I knew having been a server myself. It's her tip for the non-service she gave, and I couldn't even get it taken off to give her the tip she actually deserved. So my advice is to avoid this place. We never made it to lunch, as our server and the other 3-4 runners/servers were involved with their conversations and never quite got around to noticing us. The bar sits maybe 12 people and there were never more than 5 of us there. At least we got our initial drinks and they were fine, albeit a bit overpriced, but hey, it's Miami Beach. I personally prefer to ONLY give good reviews, but today sadly is not one of those days. My wife and I went in for a quick bite, early afternoon, and it looked like a decent stop. Generally I imagine it is a good stop. Just not today. We ordered a buffalo chicken salad, and a Beaches burger. The request was for no avocado, but the salad did come with avocado, and parts of it still had the skin on. The burger was ok, but it took 40 minutes. My wife's salad sat there because she wanted to eat at the same time, so all the chicken got cold. We asked the bar tender staff 3 times if the burger was in, and it wasn't until my wife asked at the grill window if they had made a burger that they actually started to make it. If it wasn't for the staff basically nursing a hangover on the other side of the bar, it would probably have been a better experience. But the real clue was that they were over there sharing a meal they ordered IN from somewhere else. And of course, gratuity included, so who cares. read more

DO NOT COME HERE. Was in the area for a meeting at soho house and was looking for something quick and saw they had a bagel and cream cheese on the menu and fresh orange juice. First the service was terrible. Our server was wearing Halloween clothes in April. Weird. Sat down to order. Asked for a bagel and orange fresh orange juice. They say they don't have one. Friend ordered coffee and a bagel. Now they have the fancy levazza coffee machine they give her diner style coffee from a pot sitting there for who knows how long. She drinks her coffee black and said it was horrible. When we asked what flavor bagels they had they say we only have plain. Ok, whatever we still ordered them. Here's the kicker our bagel comes out and it's two store bought mini bagels. I kid you not. The most awful thing I have ever encountered at a restaurant. Mind you we didn't know this was attached to a hotel we just Googled cafe nearby since there wasn't a starbucks around and it popped up. We couldn't get out of there fast enough. $16 for that mess. Never again She ended up getting a coffee at soho house and we were kicking ourselves for not just waiting to order there. We had to ask for silverware and the table was sticky and had to ask for it to be wiped down. Shrimp po boy still had tails on them and again it was not seasoned. They served soda and a can charged four dollars. If not a single, solitary, person in the bar should've told us to walk away, then me asking the chef what was good and he told me he didn't know should've sent us running. My husband kicked the keg of beer and he got half a glass and they still charged him $8. The keg was not kicked on my beer, and she only poured me about 2/3 of a glass. Worst food I've had in years. Mahi mahi sandwich was not blackened or seasoned. Fries had absolutely no salt. We asked for salt and they brought us packets for takeout. To add insult to injury, She told me if we needed anything else to come up to the bar. I just arrived at my hotel on Miami Beach for the weekend and went for a late night walk on Collins Ave to find a bar. Two blocks later we found open door to Beaches a Bar and Grille! Open door not only meaning welcome, but also that air conditioner was broken and yes it was hot. Aside from that place was fun and crowd all seemed to be tourist out for drinks, but all having great time. Bartender had great personality and was super friendly. Was very pleasantly surprised. The prior reviews aren't doing this place justice. Is it a basement dive with some questionable dinginess? Yes. Is service a bit slow and were there some interesting patrons? Also yes. But is the beer cold, the food good? Absolutely. My husband and I were both really surprised at the quality of the food. So my father in law found this place online and we thought we'd give it a shot. First off, it's more of a bar than anything else. The nachos were good and the pizza was okay. I liked the street tacos, but my wife and daughter didn't. The biggest problem was the service was terrible. The waitress was nice during our interactions, but took the order, dropped the food off, and we didn't see her again. She was more interested in hanging out with her friends at the bar who spontaneously shouted "shot, shot, shot" like the song at random intervals. Eventually, we gave up on waiting for the bill and one of us went to ask for it. It still took 10 minutes to get the bill. I've noticed that the service at the restaurants in the area tend to be much worse than the standard where I live. We think it's because there is a minimum gratuity that is automatically added to all bills. Therefore, there are two results. 1) Service is bad because there is no incentive to give good service AND 2) although I usually tip 25-30%, more than the norm, I won't tip a penny extra when the gratuity is automatically added to the bill as an automatic tipping policy leads to terrible service. read more

We wanted a simple dinner near our hotel on the first night of our trip. Beaches was close so we gave it a try. There are two portions of the restaurant. There is an outdoor beach bar, and a sit-down bar and restaurant in the hotel building. We ate inside. It was not busy. There was one large table with about 10 people, and maybe two other tables with couples other than ourselves. The waitresses were busting their butts, but something was very, very amiss. It took at least 15-20 minutes for me to get the bottled beer I had ordered. I did not understand why that was so complicated and difficult. You just need to grab a bottle from behind the bar. Our orders were shrimp fajitas and a mahi mahi sandwich. The food was not bad, but not great. I had no complaints about the food, only the amount of time we had to wait, and the chaotic service. Obviously they were very short-staffed in the kitchen. Not the fault of the employees who were working hard, but of management for careless staffing and training. Lastly, it was not a very clean place, with many old exposed pipes, and not in that chic-industrial way you see sometimes. He constantly walks around in a bad mood, yelling at the cooks, the Bartenders, the servers and sometimes the guest. He's older, slicked back hair, missing teeth and smells like ointment and farts. Ruins the mood. My friend colorfully refers to him as the "Beaches Gollum". My beer had rim residue leftover from a previous drink and after looking closer it also had the bloody mary residue inside the glass. My boyfriend took the drink up to the bar where it took a good 15 minutes for her to notice he was standing there. He showed her the issue and begrudgingly was given a new drink. Only to get a dirtier glass. So needless to say, I did not try my luck for a third glass and the bartender never came back to find out the 2nd beer was just as disgusting as the first. At this time we were concerned about the food order and started looking around a bit closer. The table was dirty. We had picked up some sort of BBQ sauce on our clothes when we slid into the booth. The fish tank was severly neglected. A layer of grime and dust was all over everything. Just as we were debating walking out altogether, the order of wings arrived... the wings were on the plate with a terribly unappealing sauce dumped all over the top. They weren't spun in the sauce, just swimming in it. We opted against eating them. Shortly after, the rest of the "food" arrived. Two chicken wraps, one of which was not actually wrapped, just thrown on the plate, a burger and a quesadilla. She never came back to the table, not to deliver the food, and not to check in after the food was delivered. No utensils were offered and the condiments at the table were all expired. We requested our check after flagging her down and never saw her again. At this time we left money on the table and left. Hotel and pool were nice, beautiful palm trees and right on the beach.. tiki bar takes 1.5 - 24 hours to get your fries, entire restaurant downstairs looks seriously crusty. While there we saw a crackhead zombie dance her way into the bar, prompting the servers (who are also on drugs) to call the cops on her. The lighting is really dark when you walk in. The service was also extremely slow. We sat at the bar and there were two young ladies working from behind the bar, however we always had to request everything from a water refill to another beer and the check. She never came to check on us in a reasonable amount of time, in her her defense they were one waitress short because I asked why was it taking so long. My husband ordered the ribs and they were tough and needed to have cooked a lot longer. I ordered teriyaki wings and they also could've been cooked longer, but they had a good flavor. The prices are great and the jukebox is a nice touch, but the lighting needs to be improved because it slows the server down because she can barely see the receipts and money denominations. Also the servers need to be more attentive regardless of staffing shortages and the food needs to be cooked longer. The funniest thing that happened that night was when my husband asked is there something wrong with that lady sitting in the corner. She must be drunk or sick or something. We need to check on her.
