I was in dire straits when my brother informed me he needed a last minute, late night ride from the PGH airport to my mom's house for the holiday. I was under the weather, and he could not secure a confirmed ride from the typical ride share companies due to the last minute and after midnight arrival. I was thrilled when my search for last minute airport transportation connected me to Reliant. Not only was George, my contact who answered a direct dial available, but also he was knowledgeable, professional, friendly and funny. I was able to secure the ride for my brother immediately, and the fare was remarkably fair! I received updates on the pickup and delivery of my sibling and feel confident that Reliant has a solid service for typical and unique transportation needs. My brother, who is a world traveler, said that George has a clean car, was on time, didn't fall asleep at the wheel, knew shortcuts, engaged in yinzer babble, and declined an additional tip as I had already settled the bill. If I wanted to talk to someone to book a service, I would go back to 1985, locate a White Pages phone book, and a push button landline phone and waste a few hours.

I was immediately blown away with the foyer! At check in, there is fruit infused water to quench your thirst. Make sure you keep your room key in hand because you will need it to operate the elevator (once in, hold it against the black box until light turns green and quickly select your floor). The hallways were incredible! And still had their old charm! I even picked up the old fashioned telephone and it rings the front desk! You can use it shall you need something ... if for some reason you cannot enter your room, just pick up the black phone in the hallway and they will come to you (this didn't happen to me, but just a tip if it does). I stayed in room 1470 and absolutely love my view of the gothic architecture of the Union Trust. I looked out my window a million times! The size of my room was huge! I could have done cartwheels all over the place! The WiFi is complimentary for guests. There's cable TV. Maybe other options too but I didn't have my tv on much to know. The water pressure deserves its own special shout out! Holy moly it was heaven! And the brand of washes they had was nice! Usually the conditioner isn't good enough in hotels for my hair but this was just fine! And there's a good blow dryer on the back of the door (I still used my own because I have a lot of hair and it's long BUT had I forgotten it, their hair dryer would have been just fine at 1875 watts. There's a tag on your door that you can hang if you'd like to skip housekeeping for a day and the hotel will donate a meal for doing so .. check out the tag for more info! There's also cards you can put on your bed if you want your bedding changed. I was never bothered in my room by housekeeping. I was never bothered by noise. I never experienced a phony phantom call to my room. (All things I've experienced at other places). You will get a free drink at checkout you can get a beer at the tap room or a coffee at Mellon Square (on site). It is not good for the speakeasy ... and yes, it's a real speakeasy that existed in the 1920s you could access thru tunnels under the city! So cool! On checkout day, the event I attended was going to start early and finish after checkout time. Since I was up late the night before, the front desk said I was welcome to bring my bags down now for bellhop to hold, but they also put me for a late checkout at 1pm so I could come down late the next day too. So partway thru the event just before 1pm I brought down my bags and they held them for the next 90 mins I was there. I parked across the street at the Mellon square parking garage ... Apple GPS marks the garage in the wrong place FYI ... it marks it about a block away but it is directly across the street from the hotel, with the entrance to it being on the cross street. I paid $44 to park there from Thursday around 5pm to Sunday around 3pm. Not bad. They do have valet parking at the hotel too but that is $55 per day I believe. Leaving was sad. I would have liked more time to enjoy this place. I would love to come back sometime! I have nothing bad to say about this place. Wonderful staff and incredible hotel! The hotel restaurant was good, and we enjoyed our breakfast. Besides that, the coffee was a little weak for my liking. Typical hotel pricing for our meal. The rooms feel dated and parking is expensive/aggravating (but it's downtown, so y'know), but as long as I wasn't paying premium prices, I'd stay again. NOTES: -This is in the middle of downtown. Expect traffic and parking to be a nightmare. -Most of this area is set up for the courthouse and 9-to-5 weekday workers. Many businesses are closed Saturday and Sunday, so check before you pop in. -I wasn't super comfortable walking in the area at night. There are cops patrolling pretty constantly (as we watched them out the window) in addition. -The lobby bathroom (which I attempted to use before we headed out) is only usable by room key and also shares its space with the nearby restaurant. PROS: -The lobby is gorgeous. Multiple-story windows, greenery, and tons of natural light - despite being in the middle of downtown. The rooms are modern enough though nowhere near the level of detail that was paid to the lobby. -Room was acceptable. There were large stains on the carpet, and the carpet/floor had a lot more particulate and hair on it than I would have preferred. But nothing concerning in the bathroom or bed. For being in a downtown, it has quite a bit of space (including in the bathroom) which is usually one of my biggest worries in large city downtown hotels. -Attached to Bill's Bars and Burgers which is open until midnight and has much lower prices than your average hotel restaurant. A+ for late travelers or someone who wants a midnight snack. -Attached to a Skywalk to the conference center - though we haven't figured out the most efficient way to get from the Skywalk to most of the conference center. It existed, though, and would have kept us dry in the rain. -Attached to a small interior hallway that leads to quite a few small businesses designed for lunchtime grab-and-go and weekday workers. It also leads to a Starbucks without having to go outside. CONS: -No easy-access outlets by the bed. The room is nice-r and looks like it's been remodeled within the past ten years, so it's surprising that there's nothing. We had to dig behind the mattress to find one that would work for the bedside table. -Self-park is noticeably more expensive than surrounding lots BUT I'll also say that parking in this area is a nightmare and pretty difficult. It was convenient to have parking right on-site (didn't even have to get back onto the road to get to their dedicated lot). We had zero issues with break-ins or damage to the vehicle. However, you don't have in/out privileges, so only utilize this self-park if you plan to leave your car there for awhile. If not, you're likely better off temporarily parking in nearby paid lot to fetch the car for the savings. -Not super fond of the valet service that Westin has hired to do their valet. They seemed pretty annoyed with every interaction I had with them. They weren't thrilled that I wanted a luggage cart, and I received multiple reminders to "please use the revolving doors". -Walls were thinner in the rooms than I would have liked. I was very aware someone next door was sick and kept having coughing fits. I could easily hear all of the hallway traffic through the door.

The fitness center is well equipped and the common areas are calm and inviting which makes the entire property feel like a true escape even in the middle of the city. What really sets this hotel apart though is the customer service. The staff are outstanding. Every single person I interacted with was attentive professional and genuinely kind. Any request or question was handled quickly and efficiently and you could tell they truly care about making your stay a great one.
