It is located in a good part of Dublin--the Ballsbridge area. Some areas of Dublin can be sketchy so it is important to know where exactly you're staying. It is also near the rugby stadium, which, is a huge draw if you are going there for a match. I was able to walk, or uber to all the popular Dublin attractions that I wanted to see including St. Stephen's Green, the Jameson Distillery, Trinity College, Guinness Factory, Temple Bar area etc. There were also plenty of dining options nearby. Rooms were clean, and had all the standard amenities including a hair dryer, tea kettle, tea and coffee selection. The hotel also includes a restaurant, and a popular rugby bar. They also host the Irish House Party, which is an evening of singing, dancing, eating, and drinking. So there is a quite a bit going on at this location! The staff was friendly, and helpful. Check in and check out process went very smoothly. There was also plenty of information on tourist activities in the lobby for you to browse. I was traveling solo, and felt very safe as the areas with the rooms require keycard access so people going to the hotel for dining or entertainment could not get into the area where the guests were. The front door is locked after hours, which was also a plus, and the front desk is manned 24/7! It is a nice place if you're looking for a comfortable, no frills room at an affordable price!

It is always packed on a rugby day, the atmosphere is fantastic, so if you are into rugby, I would highly recommend going to this spot on game day, or any big sporting event for that matter. Blocks away there was a Farmer's Market; so we indulged in the local cheeses and breads while we waited for our room. They have a couple options for booking: a single room, twin or double. We opted for the double and we were so happy we did. For a little extra cash, we were booked in the largest room they had. As for the noise level at night: it's close to many pubs, being in Dublin, so around 2am every morning we could hear every pub around. So much singing and laughter made us curious until we finally decided to wake up and join the fun!

I've stayed in B&B's and large chain hotels in Dublin in the past. This is my first stay in a Dublin independent. The photos of the rooms and facilities are old and misleading. Although the staff are welcoming and friendly that is negated by their lack of action and attention. When I arrived in my room I found it much smaller than the "spacious" rooms described on their site and descriptions on booking sites. The bathroom was dirty and run-down. I could deal with the cracking paint, but the thick multi-shaded glob of soap scum in the shower soap dish and hair on the floor of the shower were repulsive. I wasn't impressed by the nearly empty bottle of Head and Shoulders left by the hotel in place of the single hotel branded shampoos seen in their photos on-line. To add injury to insult I asked that the shower be cleaned while my daughter and I went out, but when I returned no action had been taken. The TV in my room was a CRT that lost its connection shortly after I turned it on. The window in my room is broken, not the glass, but the lock and hinges. It has been screwed in place leaving a large gap letting in the wind and noise. Speaking of noise, the window faces an alley and car park. There are also large HVAC units that are droning on loudly. I have been listening to glass bottles being dumped into skips all night accompanied by shouting and the conversations of smokers congressing in the alley. There is no help from the window dressings as there are only thin drapes with no backing or curtains behind them. The 1st and 2nd floors reek of cigarette smoke. (Btw, it's 2014...) The carpets in the common areas and halls are worn and threadbare. I suggest finding another place to stay. Do yourself a favor and spend a little more money to stay in a larger chain hotel.

Ours was perfectly fine with a double and two single beds as well as en suite bathroom with stall shower. Quirky bathroom is fun, but it could use one table or piece of furniture for guests to place clothing or toiletries on while showering. Very accommodating, welcoming greeters. Easy few minute walk to Grafton Street, Merrion Square, Trinity - a very good location for walking access to the sights of Dublin. Plenty of food, convenience stores, cafés nearby for your stay. A minus would be thinness of the walls. Reasonable people in next room with deep, post-pubbing voices were audible in conversation and laughter as if in the same room. But if you bring your ear buds and let Gaelic music lull you to sleep, you will get a good night's rest in the Fitzwilliam's comfy beds. Good room in a good location for a good rate.

Great value, fantastic location, and wonderful staff. Everyone we dealt with was warm and accommodating (sorry I didn't get all their names but Sara was very helpful!). Love the breakfasts (thanks to the ladies in the kitchen!). And even though there was a water issue one of the days we were there, the staff were on it as quickly as they could be, bringing us extra bottled water in the immediate short term and making alternative arrangements for the long run (which didn't end up being needed since the issue was resolved in due course but it was nice to know we were looked after (also appreciated the partial refund, thank you!)). There are lots of stairs and the place definitely has the Georgian vibe (I.e., if you're looking for fancy slick accommodations, you're gonna wanna look for a cookie cutter hotel somewhere else) but this place's character and style is not uncommon in my experience with the townhouse hotels in Dublin. If you're looking for a great location (walking distance to everything) with a thoughtful staff, the Fitzwilliam Townhouse is a great choice.

As other Yelpers have already said, the two issues with this place are location and wifi. LOCATION: It's in a very quiet neighborhood, which is perfect if you're looking for it. But there's not much around there that's within walking-distance. The restaurants around there aren't that great; they're quite expensive. We had to take a taxi most of the time to go to Dublin City Centre. Luckily, there are a lot of taxis driving through these streets. WIFI: Wi-fi sucks. The official Butlers Townhouse wifi is basically useless. We used the Virgin Wifi, which was alright but sometimes a little slow. Can't really watch Netflix with it. Wifi is important, especially if you're traveling abroad and you don't have an international data plan. Otherwise, the staff is an absolute pleasure to deal with. The breakfast they offer is 15 Euros if you haven't bought it as part of the room, which is quite expensive, but it's fancy and a nice way to treat yourself in the morning.

Came here for Labor Day weekend…read more My room wasn't quite ready when I arrived at 11 which is fine cause I knew I was early but she said it will be ready in 5 so i waited up in the waiting area and I was offered tea. The waiting room was a cute little library and it's quaint. I got my room but no there's no elevators so I had to walk one flight up with my luggage, not too bad but if I had more stuff, might be tough since it's very narrow and tight. My room was on the second floor, forgot the name of the room. I booked a two bed room and it was perfect for me and my friend. But it is considered for like single bed (not double). Our beds were side by side so a third person could have slept in the middle but it wouldnt be comfortable. The room isn't too roomy so dont bring too much too. There is one closet but we didnt use it. The bathroom was nice, it's a tub/shower, toilet and sink (the sink doesnt have much counter space so you're going to use a small little glass piece for your toiletries. The room had a strange smell but it wasnt too bothersome but it didnt go away. There was a 1-2x where we smell burning but again, nothing happened. The wifi does suck and i was told it was on the virgin wifi, but i did ask one of the housekeeping staff for wifi when i initally arrived and she gave me the password to the inn's wifi (strange....) The location is in a very nice and quiet neighborhood (was told its the rich area) but it is not close to many things and not too much public transportation stops (that are closeby, luckily there is an airbus stop about 4 mins away) We ended up cabbing everywhere or walk like a 20-30 min to main attractions. Overall, for the price we paid, it was pretty decent. but i would reconsidered just based on location.

The poem, originally entitled "Dark-haired Miriam ran away", is really all about Hilda Moriarty, a 22year old medical student at University College Dublin. Paddy loved her, but Hilda who was 20 years younger, although flattered did not reciprocate his desire. Undaunted he had the idea of setting the lines to the traditional air "The Dawning of the Day" (Fáinne Geal an Lae). Later on Luke Kelly of The Dubliners was having a drink with him one day and asked if he could record it, and so was born one of the most famous Irish songs of recent times. It's become a bit of a standard, My favourite is Sinéad O'Connor's hauntingly beautiful version, and to have such a womans voice singing Paddy's heartfelt words gives it added poignancy. Paddy never had much money, despite literary success, seemingly being as unlucky with his finances as he was with his choice of females. His upstairs flat apparently had a mirror positioned in the window in such a way that it would alert Paddy when creditors or other undesirables came calling! Of course the days when well to do Ballsbridge played home to penniless writers living in upstairs bedsits have long since gone, but if you love the poem and song, and Patrick as much as I do, a visit here, particularly in the Autumn is magical. And as you cross the wide & relatively quiet, tree-lined avenue it is easy to imagine the "Quiet street where old ghosts meet", and and...sadly...a beautiful dark-haired Irish girl walking away "from me so hurriedly," even if reason must allow. I make the journey along Mount Street & then up Northumberland & Pembroke Roads to here every time I'm in Dublin not only because I'm as hopeless a romantic as Patrick, but also because his work for me represents the deeper creative & cultural Ireland, the magic, and the real enchanted way. We were able to check in early, which was great considering we arrived at 10 AM and I was very jet-lagged! The kids went out and I got to sleep for six hours! We were greeted by Joan, the owner, had a quick chat and were escorted to our room. Nice and clean, very comfortable beds, breakfast was great, staff was very nice, secure building, location was perfect and close to bus, restaurants, O'Connell Street, everything really. I would stay here again when visiting Dublin. Thank you!

Both times, we arrived a bit too early to check in so we were allowed to leave our luggage with the staff while we explored the city. The first room we stayed in was pretty spacious and clean, though homely (country-style decor) and the bathrooms were decent. There was a sitting area with a fireplace (nice touch) as well as a "library" with wifi and desks. The hotel itself is deceptively big. During our second stay, we were sent down a hallway to an elevator and ended up in rooms that seemed more chain-hotel-ish (and less homely country-style than our first room). The staff members were so nice and generous. There was one guy who gave us a bunch of utensils and plates for us to use for the takeout fish & chips we brought home for dinner one night. It's in a good location (near the Spire) and you can pretty much walk everywhere. We even walked all the way to the Guinness Storehouse. (Though, to be fair, you can pretty much walk the entire city, as it is not that big).

It's not a new shiny property, and not someplace I'd want to hang out all day (small quarters, dull lighting, tiny tv, no amenities it seemed). But the rooms are clean, we had wifi, breakfast, it's walking distance to O'Connell St, and the airport airlink bus dropped us off right in front. FYI - There was no hair dryer or iron in the room, and breakfast was just ok. I think the best part of this place however, was the staff. Excluding the night shift guy, everyone went above and beyond expectation. They stored our bags when we arrived at 7am, let us use the washroom to clean up (before checking in). Gave us pointers on sight seeing, restaurants, etc. And when we had a snafu with our rental car, we asked to book a taxi to get to a wedding over an hour away. Without asking, the woman at the front desk, looked up (significantly) cheaper alternative for us (bus route and she mapped out how to get to our next hotel!). I am so grateful for her assistance (especially in getting to the wedding). Thank you so much for such a pleasant stay!

The staff is super nice and attentive, The breakfast is fantastic and generous. They were nice and held our bags and we even got into our rooms early. The location is northside (which is less sought after maybe) but very convenient to shopping and some great ethnic restaurants. Cheap bus to airport stops on the block and taxis to the airport was much less than we expected.
