This course is an extension of level 1. There was a bit of a gap between level 1 and level 2,…read moretherefore, a few weeks prior I had to give myself a refresher by doing some of the statements and trail balance sheets (Quickbooks does this for me, however, I needed to refresh myself on the mechanics). Arlene was my level 2 instructor. Her methods of teaching and assigning the homework differs than Jennifer's whom I had in level 1. It took me about 2 classes to get used to Arlene's teaching methods, however, over all I find her class a lot easier to navigate. The assignments aren't as labour intensive as level 1. Most of the assignments in level 2 are what I already did in level 1 with a few exceptions added. I've been less stressed in this class due to less official homework assigned. This has allowed me to take constructive notes and re-read the chapter during the week at my leisure. Most of the assignments and additional reading outside class time is about a 6 - 9 hour weekly investment. I don't have any children, marriage or distractions, therefore, I was able to accomplish this during the work week with an entire weekend for myself for extra practice above and beyond what is expected of me. Also studying on the bus helps. I found it helpful to xerox the chapter summarizes and would read those on the bus (without having to lug the whole text book with me). Level 1 was very focused on formatting that I missed the methodology. Arlene is very heavy on the "why we do this" rationality which paints a clearer picture of the book keeping process. The textbook used is the same as Level 1, however, 3 chapters are missing. Arlene gives you the xerox's of these chapters for you on day 1. Only 1/2 a chapter is really used from the original text book recommended. In other words the text book is almost useless after the 2nd class. The reason why Arlene gives you the chapters is 'cause Pearson's makes you pay an additional fee on top of what you already paid for the book just to access these on-line chapters which is not moral (I wrote a separate review on them). Unlike Jennifer's class, Arlene doesn't publish the answers to the practice questions in the assignment, however, she will advise and lead you in the right direction if errors were made on your hand in assignments. She doesn't mark so heavily on format unlike level 1 but more or less on the understanding of the process. She will grant you a re-do if she notices that you're struggling with the concept of a certain topic. She is very intuitive and is good about reading people's faces in class to determine if something is being understood or not. She bases this real time assessment in how she explains certain topics/examples. During the week when I had an assignment question or needed clarification she was good about answering her e-mails within a day or two. The cost of the class was $255 plus tax. You do not need any additional textbooks as you can use the same one as level 1. The workbooks are useless as there are plenty of templates on google. If you're password is still valid on the Langara site you can access your level 1 templates no problem. Here is where this class failed. The test. I have no issue with taking tests especially if it's a valid indication & assessment of what I've learned during those 6 weeks. The majority of the test is on partnerships and corporations which seems irrelevant considering that this has very little to do with the actual book keeping process itself. It's nice to have this information in your back pocket, however, with book keeping it's about the actual fundamentals and extensions of the process itself. More likely a book keeper isn't going to need to know or give a sh*t about the partnership and corporations portion. I studied a lot by reading the chapters, doing the self quizzes at the end of each chapter, doing the homework twice before handing it in as practice, re-writing my own notes based on the in class lesson(s) and made self quizzes for myself. I felt that the test was too heavily concentrated on something that in the real world would mean very little and left out important topics that needed to be quizzed like more expansion on

InFocus, like all private colleges is all about getting tuition from students, especially…read moreinternational students who cannot properly investigate the school. This is by far and away their only priority and the instruction in film production is far down the list. Their projects are intentionally scheduled after you pass certain dates of enrollment to make sure you are on the hook for tuition before you do anything meaningful. Some instructors are good but most have limited experience and there are a limited number of film production opportunities in the Greater Vancouver area especially which is why so many are working at private colleges where there is little accountability or oversight. They change courses after you enroll so the courses you sign up for are not likely to be the courses you are given. As others have said, the administration and organization is in constant disarray with high turnover among administration and instructors. Equipment is substandard and they often charge for damage to equipment that occured prior to you checking the gear out. Students who aren't trained or understand the equipment are given the responsibility to check the equipment out and inspect the equipment then staff familiar with the equipment and how to properly check for damage check in the equipment and charge for damage students couldn't have known to check for. When you do finally make your projects you'll have a lot of limitations placed on you even though you are funding and making your own films and the tiny amount of money the school contributes to a limited number of students in your own cohort is just giving limited funds back to "some" of the students. You'll be stuck working with film students, some of which are unrelaible, lazy or have become fed up with the program by the time you do your projectsand the even better part is they have to me in key roles. It's a very poor quality program that isn't worth your money and if you mention to people in the film community that you went there they often don't even recognize the name. If you watch Youtube videos you'll be way ahead of this program. Take the money you would spend on any film college and make films you want to make without being limited. There are lots of people who are willing to help as there are a lot of indy film makers wanting to work on projects and people wanting to gain experience.

Do not expect to have much assistance from their staff. They don't keep their word at all! I confess that I got a lot disappointed, maybe because I was expecting too much from this college - considering the huge amount of $ and time invested. if I could turn back time, I'd have chosen another university for sure!

I've been practicing book keeping for about 7 years now in Quickbooks, however, this course made me…read morequickly realize that all I was doing was data entry for the accounting without the understanding about the logic behind my entries. Quickbooks can spoil someone that way. This class actually forces you to think by doing everything manually. It's good to finally get the logic and the reasoning behind certain entries, especially debits and credits. The notes are provided for you, easy to follow. The class themselves sometimes goes a little too fast, however, you can follow the slideshow on the Langara website (log in and password is provided when you pay and register). It helps after the class the following day to do the whole tutorial on your own before doing the homework. The text book is easy to follow since they have a lot of diagrams. In conjunction with Jennifer's class notes at the beginning of each close reviewing the following day is easy. The instructor Jennifer was very patient with me in answering all my questions. It helps to come in early if there are common things that you do not understand just so that you're not holding the class back. My employer at the time allowed me an extra 30 minutes to go early so that I could ask these questions (He did pay for me to take the course). I've had to e-mail Jennifer a few questions while I was at work in relation to homework and some of the transactions I was assigned to do. I felt more comfortable asking her in a non judgemental but informative way. She gets back to you right away within a day. There are class assignments to be handed in on class 2 and the other on Class 5. Be careful 'cause even though my mathematics and logic was correct, I lost marks on the formatting which can be easily missed if you're using excel. Class 5 was the hardest which was closing the year end balances to 0. I found this class specifically difficult. I have the advantage of having no children and or marriage, therefore, it was very easy for me to do the recommended 6 - 9 hours of homework per week. I had the advantage of doing a lot of my homework during my lunch period and the rest at coffee shops. There is recommended homework that is not to be handed in. I highly suggest investing the time to actually get this done. The more you practice the more it actually comes together full circle. A lot of people on the first day brought lap tops and notebooks, however, you will not need this. All you need is a good book 8 by 11" with lines. I just bought the regular college accounting textbook which is good for both level 1 and 2. There is suggested supplementary books, however, those are just a waste of money. They have a study tool workbook that may be helpful. I do find that most templates you can either Google them or make your own in excel. You do need an old school regular non scientific calculator. Don't buy it from the book store as it is highway robbery. I bought mine from the dollar store. The classes themselves are 3 hours each in the evenings. They do go by fast. If you work a regular 9 - 5 you have to keep yourself in check that you're not burnt out mentally by the 8:30 mark. The course is 6 consecutive weeks. I recommend not skipping any 'cause it all ties in together in the end, the process, the understanding and the logic. There was one guy who came in who missed the first 2 classes. Those classes were easy, however, they were extremely important to the full cycle logic of things. Everyone has their excuses but I suggest putting stuff on hold like parties and other events on Thursday if you don't have the lifestyle freedom as I do. Each course is $255 for level one and $255 for level two. After level two the courses do get higher in cost to $405.

The advisor asked me what program I had questions about, I responded I wanted him to tell me what to expect in general about the counselling tracts they offered. He then pulled up the web page and proceeded to tell me all the programs listed that they do not, in fact, teach. He told me they only actually offer 4 of the listed programs but that the rest are "coming soon". I asked him about courses transferring to other programs they offered, I.e. certificate to diploma studies, he had no idea and had to look on the website to compare course to course. I the asked him about accreditation and he said they in fact do not have any accreditation agreements or relationships valid with CACCF or ACCT and that the representation on the website of such a relationship was a mistake.... he assured me it would be fixed in the next 2 or 3 days. CACCF also informed me that they do NOT have any active accreditation with this "school". The representation of accreditation organizations where it does not exist is offensive and highly misleading. During the whole process the intake worker kept saying "if I am honest with you" and then pointing out areas of their website and documentation that actually were not accurate. In less than 15 minutes of a one hour informational session they disclosed so much inaccuracies and smoke and mirrors the best move I made was walking out.
