Quickbooks can spoil someone that way. This class actually forces you to think by doing everything manually. It's good to finally get the logic and the reasoning behind certain entries, especially debits and credits. The notes are provided for you, easy to follow. The class themselves sometimes goes a little too fast, however, you can follow the slideshow on the Langara website (log in and password is provided when you pay and register). It helps after the class the following day to do the whole tutorial on your own before doing the homework. The text book is easy to follow since they have a lot of diagrams. In conjunction with Jennifer's class notes at the beginning of each close reviewing the following day is easy. The instructor Jennifer was very patient with me in answering all my questions. It helps to come in early if there are common things that you do not understand just so that you're not holding the class back. My employer at the time allowed me an extra 30 minutes to go early so that I could ask these questions (He did pay for me to take the course). I've had to e-mail Jennifer a few questions while I was at work in relation to homework and some of the transactions I was assigned to do. I felt more comfortable asking her in a non judgemental but informative way. She gets back to you right away within a day. There are class assignments to be handed in on class 2 and the other on Class 5. Be careful 'cause even though my mathematics and logic was correct, I lost marks on the formatting which can be easily missed if you're using excel. Class 5 was the hardest which was closing the year end balances to 0. I found this class specifically difficult. I have the advantage of having no children and or marriage, therefore, it was very easy for me to do the recommended 6 - 9 hours of homework per week. I had the advantage of doing a lot of my homework during my lunch period and the rest at coffee shops. There is recommended homework that is not to be handed in. I highly suggest investing the time to actually get this done. The more you practice the more it actually comes together full circle. A lot of people on the first day brought lap tops and notebooks, however, you will not need this. All you need is a good book 8 by 11" with lines. I just bought the regular college accounting textbook which is good for both level 1 and 2. There is suggested supplementary books, however, those are just a waste of money. They have a study tool workbook that may be helpful. I do find that most templates you can either Google them or make your own in excel. You do need an old school regular non scientific calculator. Don't buy it from the book store as it is highway robbery. I bought mine from the dollar store. The classes themselves are 3 hours each in the evenings. They do go by fast. If you work a regular 9 - 5 you have to keep yourself in check that you're not burnt out mentally by the 8:30 mark. The course is 6 consecutive weeks. I recommend not skipping any 'cause it all ties in together in the end, the process, the understanding and the logic. There was one guy who came in who missed the first 2 classes. Those classes were easy, however, they were extremely important to the full cycle logic of things. Everyone has their excuses but I suggest putting stuff on hold like parties and other events on Thursday if you don't have the lifestyle freedom as I do. Each course is $255 for level one and $255 for level two. After level two the courses do get higher in cost to $405.

TERRIBLE rip off I enrolled in Surrey college for the unit…read moreclerk program in 2008 it was the biggest mistake of my entire young life the instructor for the unit clerk program was just a unit clerk I don't know what qualification she had to even administer this course it was about $5000 and their admissions team set everything up for me with BC student loans so I just signed on the dotted line when I started my course everything was so hectic and we had 27 girls in our class some had just graduated high school others came from professional jobs in other countries to make a Long story short within a few months of starting this program the class had dwindled down to only three students all of the other students had been removed from the class with prejudice just because the instructor did not like them they had even excepted students who knew absolutely no English so nobody got a refund they basically scammed 24 people out of thousands of dollars for no reason they need to be shut down and I see that they only offer three programs as of 2015 they must have made a lot of people very angry by offering the course letting them in taking their money and just kicking them out. It is very very upsetting. I have the transcripts myself to prove how well I was doing before the instructor pulled me aside and told me I wasnt going to 'make it' and should just leave. After I was resistant she just failed me. It was completely 100% unethical to The point that I did create a big fuss about it but never gained anything from it I still know several people from That course and it really messed up their lives now having the student loan debt for nothing. why didn't the school just deny the application because their English was too little or they weren't considered too young or they could've used any excuse but they didn't care they just wanted their money. What I don't understand why they would even let someone in to that program if they didn't think they could do the course at all. There were women in the course who had been pharacists in India, one a 50 year old legal assistant, all tossed aside because of there lack of english or mainly the instructor claimed these girls shouldnt be in this course at all because they were 'too young' or 'would never be able to be a unit clerk' based on the instructors personal judgements. is just not fair and was a huge waste of everyones time and money. I did complain to the PCTIA. I should have known better when I walked into the 'college' it was held in a makeshift trailer. Thanks for listening to me and Please I wouldnt wish my worst enemy to this pathetic unrecognized unprofessional place. It ruined my life. Now I work as an office assistant truly regretting the thousands of dollars I have to pay back for nothing. It also ate up all our self esteem.
