Ok... so a liquor store is a liquor store, until you need a special event license.
Is this liquor store a cut above the rest in terms of selection? Nope. It's pretty run of the mill. Though I do tip the hat to their whiskey selection, as they had a few unexpected scotches representing on the shelves. Still, for the weird and hard to get, Cambie & 49th is a better bet.
Are their prices better then any in town? Nope. Because of our fair liquor laws, you'll find the same price tags here, as with any other branch in town.
This place is a pretty damn standard liquor store. It has your usual suspects at the usual price. Service is quick, if not a little cookie cutter. The hours are decent and it has accessible parking. All in all, it's a pretty standard 3 star run of mill establishment.
Except when you've got an event around the corner and a special event license to snag.
I've had to get my fair share of special event licenses and my overall experience has been brusque, slow and downright unhelpful. I had popped into the Kingsway branch earlier in the day with my completed forms and got waved off - with four days till the event, I was told I was "down to the wire" and they couldn't guarantee a turn around.
This is where this particular branch waved their magic wand and took that extra little star - after my downright rude experience at Kingsway, I decided to pop in here to have a go, hoping someone would take pity on me. Pity wasn't even needed - not only was the gent at customer service all out cheerful, but he popped on his computer, punched in my details and I walked out 15 minutes later with license in hand. The whole process was so unbelievably painless that this place just became my go-to for future licenses AND liquid libation needs.
