It is your friendly neighbourhood liquor store that has the lower prices from the privates and I'm all about saving some coin, especially on the alcohol front. They don't have a huge selection like the one that is across from my work (Cambie-Oakridge) but the prices are the same. They have a recycling area in the back, security guards watching so no one runs off stealing stuff. Parking is pretty good here, as you have the whole of the underground on the Safeway side to park, and walk a few steps and you are in here. Interesting design, as this is an older building, when you enter it's a regular door, with a handicap button, but when you leave, there is a big sliding door that goes sideways (so they must know people leave with shopping carts worth of booze). A good enough selection in terms of countries and regions for wine, as I said... your not getting signature store selection, but regular government prices. The big names, they got em, the smaller ones.. not so much. Considering the location of this one (hidden, a little) at least there is an option here. Just remember those hours of operation, and this is not private, so holidays.. this place ain't open!

But hey, I'm not a wine connoisseur so what do I care? lol). This particular BC Liquor store is a decent place to get alcohol. It's a mid-size store (i.e., half the other BC Liquor stores I've been to are larger, and half are smaller. This one is perfectly "medium" sized), and it usually has whatever alcoholic beverages I'm shopping for at the moment. This store is conveniently located on Cambie, across from Whole Foods, Canada Tire, Home Depot and Save-On Foods, and there's a huge London Drugs around the corner on Broadway. So... it really is in the middle of a prime shopping area. What is most notable about this BC Liquor store is that there is FREE underground parking available, only for customers of this store. I've not seen this feature at any other BC Liquor store, and boy, on a rainy day, this feature is SUPER nice. I have had good luck with the customer service in this store, too. When I've asked staff for wine recommendations, they have never steered me wrong. This site may not have all the bells and whistles that the larger stores do, but for my purposes (and, I'd guess, for most people), they have WAY more than enough.

This location has been around for decades and therefore looks super dated from the outside. The interior has been modernized to match the other locations though. This BC Liquor Store is a typical BC Liquor Store and isn't anything special. This store is located on Broadway and Arbutus, and while there are a couple of other BC Liquor Stores along Broadway -- a much larger one just off of Broadway on Cambie and 8th, and one in Kingsgate Mall, this one is right in front of the 99 B-Line stop, so it's super convenient to hop off at Arbutus when I'm coming home from UBC, grab a bottle of wine, then hop back on the bus. And each time I've done this, another 99 was approaching the stop as I exited the store, so there was essentially no waiting time for another bus. So, if you're bussing down Broadway and in need of some alcohol, stop off at the Broadway and Arbutus location; it's incredibly convenient for transit users. In fact, I think it is THE most convenient location I have been to, as it's right at the stop -- no need to cross a street, walk through a parking lot, or push past hobos. They had a nice selection of wines, but most of them I wasn't familiar with. The lady working there obviously saw my confusion and offered to help me. Don't know the students name, but he was new and I asked him where he came from, was he a student. He told me he go his Masters at UBC in cyber security. I asked out of curiosity because I use the store consistently. He talked about the fact there were no jobs in his field in BC. And he would have to try and find a job in Toronto or something. In my opinion you would think if their are no jobs in Canada, the best course would be take his valuable education back to his homeland. It's actually unbelievable that India doesn't have it own Universities. We have over abundance of foreign students. Instead of having to set up a whole new life without family. I would go home. Which is why I said to him maybe he should go back to India. I should have followed up w good luck finding a job in his field. If the worker is that sensitive he shouldn't be in Canada. I didn't say anything racist. I was just offering a possibility. So the Manager screamed at me, they won't accept or tolerate...exactly what did I do wrong. I asked him questions because he was new. And we've recently had a flood of foreign students moving into Kerrisdale. So the Manager yells at me and tells me I won't ever be able to buy drinks at his store again.
