So in we went. My oh my what a find. Great place. Great atmosphere and decent decor. The server was a lovely guy who was very personable. He gave us the menu and as I read down the page my mouth began to water. We opted to share some buffalo wings with the medium sauce although we were asked were we brave enough to try the "suicide" sauce to which I quickly declined. They were accompanied with a blue cheese dip. The wings were soooo tasty and the heat of the sauce was cooled by the blue cheese dip and this left you wanting more and more. I would definitely recommend trying the wings! For main we both had a steak sandwich/sub with cheese, sauted peppers and onions that came with a choice of side and slaw. The side I chose was sweet potato wedges. The sandwich was fantastic and full of flavour. The sweet potato wedges were by far thee best sweet potato wedges I have ever eaten outside of my own house! My plate was well and truly cleaned by the end of the meal. I will definitely be back to try some of the other delicous sounding dishes on the menu!!

They pride themselves on local fresh produce and this translates to their menu which is full of seafood (it's on the coast). The staff in the Salty Dog are exceptional, they have excellent knowledge of the menu and the wine lists. Don't make the mistake of asking for a white wine because they have loads and it will only expose your lack of wine knowledge as it did on my case. It seems that other reviewers have had mixed experiences of The Salty Dog but every time I've been in I have throughly enjoyed myself and my grub. I am heading back again soon - so it's 4 stars for now and they might get the coveted fifth if the latest experience matches the previous ones.

The new menu had a great selection - I opted for the salt and pepper burger. Great portion sizes, really well presented and most importantly tasted great. 5* so far! My only let down was the dessert. I prefer a more indulgent selection, but that's personal choice. I settled on the lemon posset with mango and passionfruit sorbet. The sorbet was good but the posset was a lot more runny that I would have liked and my husband agreed. It had popping candy on top, which I thought might be nice but it felt like they just threw it on trying to be different. Didn't really work for me. Overall though I would give this place a 4*, being the first night perhaps the posset has since been perfected. I wouldn't say no for a rejudge.

This was an amazing dish, full of flavour and really big portion size, it must of looked like I didn't like the dish because there was a lot left. Alex checked to make sure I enjoyed the dish. (Honestly it was just too much for me but cooked perfectly). My partner order the black and blue burger with a side of onion rings. He had it scoffed in no time and really enjoyed it. They have quite a large menu that has something to suit everyone, they even have a separate vegetarian menu too. Had an odd experience with a pizza place the day prior in Newtownards (Apparently pepperoni = chopped hot dog there). So, I wasn't expecting much after a long day of sightseeing in Belfast. We headed down the street to Hickory's, which we'd found online. We're from New Mexico and Texas, so we've had our fair share of bbq. The manager was amazing. Very friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious. Not just for bbq outside the US, but in general. One of many pleasant surprises on our trip. I would definitely head there again if I'm ever near Belfast.

Smoked salmon on toasted bread, hard Irish cheese, crunchy baguette, sliced turkey, even chilli sauce and something called "black butter." Oh, and wine. You can't have a midday snack without wine, right? Much/most of the food here is quite local (the wine is Spanish) and the staff are helpful. Check the "sandwich board" out front for specials. Found this gem while strolling the streets of downtown Belfast. This place has it all! A great…read moreselection of various packaged food, a deli that makes fresh sandwiches, pastries, fresh cheeses to cut and an olive bar. Browsing the store, I saw that it's separated into sections. An Italian section with lots of varieties of pastas and sauces. Cookies from Italy and limoncello! There is a very small Mexican section, which in my opinion was pretty darn good for being in Ireland! They had tortillas, various dry chilies and hot sauces. Lots of cookies, candies, jams and jelly's and a very large tea selection. The cheese case and deli were loaded with so many choices, it was hard to choose! You can order food and eat at tables that are just outside the front of the store. A definite recommend but if you're a foodie, be prepared to be dazzled!
