Big eatin' at it's finest! Sugar Ray's is an odd old place - located in an entertainment complex and obviously built for purpose means that it is really hard to build up any sort of atmosphere, I think they have gone for an American Smoke House theme but it's all totally manufactured. Anyway, that's not really the important part - we came here for greasy guilty pleasure food and that's what was served up! I went for the Steak Off (Sounds a bit like a Yelp competition) - this meal comprised of a Sirloin, a half rack of ribs, corn bread, coleslaw, BBQ sauce and a side of chips! It came served up on a slate slab and as soon as I set eyes on it my mouth started watering. The steak was cooked to perfection - I asked for MR! The ribs were tender and with just one jab from a fork the meat fell off the bone. The corn bread was fresh and moist and the sauce came with just the right amount of kick - perfect for chip dipping. The service was absolutely impeccable - we were seated as soon as we walked in (even though it was busy) and the waitress made sure we had drinks before we ordered! Price wise it's quite expensive - my 'Steak Off' cost £17.99 and a beer was £6 (600ml). Obviously not the cheapest of meals but for what you get it's good. I was shocked about the quality of the food, because the whole place feels quite flat pack I was expecting frozen stuff but it was all definitely fresh! Ribs, wings, brisket, pulled pork, sliders, burgers, they do it all ans it seemed like I had ordered it all when my "ultimate" arrived. Full rack of sticky bbq ribs, beef slider, pulled port slider, 4 chicken wings, 4 chicken strips, onion rings, corn bread, slaw and sweet potatoe fries. This was a proper cave man style dinner. The ribs were top quality, the meat literally fell off the bone and I would highly recommend anyone going to sugar rays to give them a go. I absolutely love this place, I might go as far to say it's my favourite place to eat out Sugar Ray's is real American dining, I always go for the rack of ribs which are cooked to perfection and fall tight off the bone. There are a selection of sauces to choose from and you some corn bread in the side which is to die for (if you have room after the healthy portion sizes) I would recommend the sweet potato fries and American slaw as side dishes If you're not into ribs that's ok there is also brisket and chicken on offer (amongst other things) I tend to skip the starters, not because they aren't amazing but because they are a meal in themselves! The location is great too with tonnes of free parking and right next to the Omniplex cinema so if you're not too sleepy after a big feed you could go and catch a film too read more

Went to Sugar Ray's with some friends for a casual bite to eat and was pleasantly surprised! We had to queue for about 10 minutes for a table and it was a tight squeeze for 6 people in a booth but once we were in it was all good. The menu is extensive but lacking in choice I thought, I'm not a big ribs fan and over half the menu consisted of some sort of rib combos, I therefore opted for an American burger with loaded chilli cheese fries! The burger was beautiful, if not a little dry for my taste (I'm picky with my burger meat) and the chilli cheese fries were really nice and hot which I'm a big fan of :) The meals came quickly and the price was really reasonable....I would definitely try Sugar Ray's again but would maybe try a platter dish minus the ribs! If you are into Deep South American diners plastered in signs and posters , massive portions, meat, and various flavours of bbq sauce, this is the place for you. I really like it and have returned a few times as the value and service is excellent. I usually opt for the hot wings as they are huge with plenty of sauce and if you like a Sunday style dinner their beef brisket stack with mash is delicious too. The bar is licensed serving wine and and beer. I don't normally have room for a dessert, but sharing is caring and they are big enough to share, particularly their ice cream Sundays, they are LOADED with icecream, we go for the chocolate sky scraper, lashings of hot fudge sauce and bits of brownies. If you enjoy your breakfast, this could be a good option although I've never made it up on time. They serve waffles, staked pancakes with maple syrup and bacon, perfect to cure a hangover or to sit over and ready the Sunday papers! read more

Came in here for Saturday morning breakfast. Staff were friendly and warm from the minute we arrived, they gave us crayons and pages for my toddler to colour, they were attentive but not intrusive, and they were polite and even asked if it was ok to clear plates before my little had finished eating - in case he was the kinda child who stopped eating when the grown ups did. Breakfast is ginormous - I could have, and on reflection, maybe should have, gone with a small one. As we say in Norn iron "it's quere packin'!" Delicious, hot and fresh food. I subbed my tomatoes and shrooms for hash browns, and they even keep the beans separate so they don't contaminate the rest of your food! Great place to get breakfast!! read more

I could be a resident at sugar rays at the rate that I eat here! The food is out of this world, everytime I going try a different burger and I haven't been disappointed yet as they are always so delicious. If your going to get a burger then you just havta order loads of sides my favourite is the onion rings or the chicken goujons I could eat them all day! The staff can hover around your table sometimes which can be annoying but most times they are pleasant and nice. read more

Tried Sugar Rays for the first time. We are regular visitors and fans of Wolfe's. I could see that this place was owned by the same people, so we tried for the first time expecting big things and we definitely weren't disappointed! I had the Giganti Stack and he had The Ultimate. Both were absolutely amazing and great portions. We got a side (Chilli Fries) which were fantastic but way too much! Everything was perfect and the meat on his ribs was just falling off the bone and there was so much meat on them. They definitely weren't lying when they said you don't need teeth to eat their food! :) IMO Wolfes still has the upper hand - same high quality of food but cheaper prices (don't think I didn't notice! :) like for like items such as drinks are more expensive in Sugar Rays, but it's a nice change and we will definitely be back. read more

One of my favourite burger restaurants. They have more than just burgers too. You get massive portions. I got the Santa Fe burger, as i love applewood smoked cheese and all I can say was 'Yum'! It came with good crispy fries. Service was quick and friendly. They do breakfasts and have a good choice of drinks including beer and wine. Resonable prices for big juicy meaty burgers, not for vegetarians! read more

Since I was only picking my sister up here I was only able to try their Sundaes. Which were amazing, (tasting even better because my sisters friends paid for them.) They had got three to share between six (plus my littlest sister and me) and even then they weren't finished. read more

My favourite place to eat! Have been countless times. The food is incredible, if you love meat its definetly a place for you. If with a wide variety from ribs, chicken, pulled pork, brisket there is many combinations possible. Sides are really good and in my opinion best value for money. My favourite is Peppered Hen. I absolutely love this restaurant! Food is always of the same high standard and portions are generous. My partner and I went last Saturday night and had around half an hour to wait for a table. This was about average, it was 7.30pm and quite busy. I have been previously at 5.30pm and been seated straight away, also it seems to quiet down around 8.30pm. I had the chicken strips starter with the mayo dip and these were lightly battered and melt in the mouth. My main was chicken strips(again) in breadcrumb coating on a bed of the most delicious mash(I don't like champ so always have plain). The tobacco onions were hot and crisp and the pepper sauce had just the right amount of "heat". My partner had the nachos starter which he found ok but slightly oily compared to the same in other places. His chicken fillet burger was declared delicious, the small size was really big!! He also found the bucket of beers good value, £14 for 5 bottles of Bud. Staff were helpful and efficient and apologised when I pointed out that they had charged me for 2 soft drinks when I had only had 1. I will certainly return here, soon . read more
