Roman is a very responsible organizer, members of this group are very nice and highly skilled. Most of the 2s are high level players and 4s are advance intermediate. If you are a beginner, talk to Roman for best classes. Sometimes Roman invites Beach volleyball teachers for free classes for group members. There's plenty of parking in the parking lot next to where group plays. There are also restrooms in the swimming pool next to where group plays. Usually there are 3 courts for twos and 3 courts for fours, 36 people can play at the same time. I highly recommend for anyone who wants to play beach volleyball.

I've…read moreplayed volleyball (indoor and outdoor) for over 18 years and have helped tutor beginners in this group. I've seen people start off completely new and inexperienced where they are just learning the fundamentals, to actually playing competitive games of 2v2 against advanced players. About 6 courts are usually reserved and fully equipped with lines and regulation volleyballs (not the fake replicas but the real deal pro-quality volleyballs). There's always three courts of 4s and three courts of 2s going on all-morning. Usually by 1pm everyone is tired and starts heading home. Be sure to bring water and wear lots of sunscreen because shade and water fountains are far away from the volleyball courts. Onto the review: The group has evolved over the years to a very well organized and competition-friendly atmosphere. The group is for most ages, but typically everyone is between the ages of 18-55. I would not recommend this for kids under the age of 13 because injuries can happen when you play with people physically bigger and mature. This meetup is for those serious about learning to play beach volleyball, get better at it, and have fun. The current organizer, Roman, is very friendly and welcoming. Above all else, he wants fairness in all the games. On occasion teams will be mixed up to balance out experience levels. It's a learning experiencing for everyone, but in the end, it makes you and everyone else a better player when the competition is varied. The 3-and-out rule ensures everyone gets a chance to play. "Super" teams are discouraged, but if games are consistent blow-outs, then you might be asked to break-up. The point of the meetup is to have fun, and blow-outs are NO FUN. There's always going to be 1 or 2 of those over-competitive-not-so-friendly players, but usually everyone else is friendly and encouraging. The biggest tip: be friendly and have FUN! Bad attitudes are not welcome in the meetup group. If you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced player, there's something for everyone! If you happen to come by on a Sunday, look for me if you'd like some practice...or some friendly competition! :)

At other gyms you see people not care, throw their weights around and leave the place dirty. It's different here, they care and they keep this place up to standard. Community is what this gym is about, plain and simple. Nicole was the one who helped set me up, introduce me to the community and always cared to check in. Every day she is in she makes sure that the place keeps its standard and you feel it. Sure I can pay for a super cheap membership at a sub par gym, but I'd rather have my money go somewhere that actually cares.

They also offer racket rental and shoe rentals for $5 each! Parking is a little bit limited, you have to drive all the way to the backside of the building. When I came here on a Saturday, I only saw people playing badminton, so I'm not sure if Pickleball is in different area.

If you don't have the right shoes they have shoe rentals for $5. Price for renting the court is $38/hr if you reserve. They have walk in for $15/person minimum of 2hrs play. But if the court is full then you will have to share the court with other walk in player within that 2hour. Overall it's a nice indoor court. It doesnt get too busy so coming walk in is cheaper. Staff are there to assist if you have any questions.

At one point it was getting out of control with bags everywhere, creating clutter and potential safety issues. Now the gym feels so much more organized, open, and easy to move around in. It's clear the staff really cares about keeping this club safe, clean, and welcoming for everyone. The floors stay clear, the equipment areas feel less chaotic, and the overall vibe is more professional and respectful. The league continues to grow YOY , yet they're financially in the hole. Make the math work please. If you're signing up for ELB league and think you're going to be practicing anywhere at or near the field you'll be disappointed. They don't seem to be able set regimented schedules or secure practice time at reasonable nearby locations. It's a nightmare for working parents. It's sloppy on the management side, not nearly as bad as Heartwell Baseball, but not nearly as good as other leagues I hear about around town. The competition is good and high, so it makes for exciting ball in the upper divisions, but again, 50% of coaches think they're taking their 11-yr-old kid(s) to the MLB next year. The crowds are large which is cool....again....ish...except for the bad actors. And they're are plenty of them. And they aren't from the neighborhood.

I'm glad to see this option for those in the community who are not necessarily students to be able to take fitness classes @ The Beach. Some of the classes look more geared toward faculty and staff and are offered during lunch hours, but some of them are open to the community and are in the evenings. The fitness classes include golf, rowbics, walking, belly dancing, hatha yoga, pilates, capoeira, stretching, water aerobics, and cross training. I've been taking the hatha yoga class, which at $40 for 6 weeks is a total bargain as far as yoga classes go - I highly recommend it. My only complaint is the schedule is related to the school's semester schedule, so there's been a big gap between the end of the spring schedule and the beginning of the summer schedule. I haven't really looked too closely at the other classes but from the flyer they are all very reasonably priced. Worth a look if you're on or near the CSULB campus. I've been focusing on the fitness & wellness classes, but CSULB Club Sports & Recreation also includes all of CSULB's competitive and noncompetitive sports clubs, which are many, as well as CSULB's recreation facilities, including the pool, track & fields, tennis courts, etc. In all my years of living in Long Beach on top of attending CSULB I never knew that the CSULB pool had open swim for the public for limited hours, for only $1! The racquetball courts are free and don't require reservations. CSULB Club Sports & Recreation also has Academic Enrichment Camps for kids during the summer. All in all, it's a very cool program.

Well, I'm only a freshman but it's AMAZING inside. 2 levels of exercising equipment, an indoor track upstairs, 2-3 racquetball rooms and rock climbing down stairs and not to mention the beautiful pool area outside! Oh yes, the sandy volley ball court also. They have cardio machines with a TV hooked onto individual ones! How cool's that? There are tons of lockers outside of locker rooms and inside. Their electronic lockers so you can make a pin and use it again to open it again. If you're unlucky, you get one that doesn't work like I did :( But the staff are more than happy to help you solve the problem, although I did it while only using a towel to cover myself. -___- But they end up putting an "Out of Order" sign on it. I usually go in the morning so it's not very crowded. However, passing by it during the afternoon and looking through the glass windows they have , ^____^, most of the machines are being used. Classes are available also, free and cheap ones. They range from yoga to zumba classes! Staff is also friendly. Ugh I'm tired from the gym..

AREC is a super social running group. I just moved here from Chicago and did a bit of research on…read morethe local running clubs, and chose to test out AREC for the first year or so. I like how the running clubs in LBC seem to be friendly and don't charge if you want to hop in for a weekly run. The annual dues are dirt cheap compared to my other running clubs, and include marathon or half marathon training. I also got a running shirt out of it. Definitely worth the money. The runs start and finish at Buster's Beach House, and it's a very casual atmosphere. You can run any mileage that you like and everybody meets up at Buster's for some good old fashioned fun after their run. (hehe, that rhymes). The club also has fun themed runs on holidays and kitschy runs like their annual poker run, where you collect 5 cards during the run and whomever has the best hand wins, so I gather. I'm happy with my choice, and I've made a few friends already!

The group has multiple runs per week, with its longest run on Saturdays. It is very well organized with aid stations along the way. Maps are emailed a few days prior so you know exactly where you are going (plus there are many other runners on the route). One of my favorite things about the group is that the runs start promptly at 7 a.m. The runners are very friendly and membership includes discounts!!! I've been part of other clubs, and this is certainly my favorite.
