BB's locations are the most affordable grocery stores you'll ever find in southern PA, period. Take note that they're closed on Sundays.

The food is always bad and one time I went there only to find the employees walking right past a shelf full of rotten fruit!

I don't think they still have that option, but the little store is absolutely fantastic. Anita and the other ladies who work there are some of the most friendly and knowledgeable staff I've ever met at a health foods store--and I've been to a lot of them! The store is small and situated on a farm along busy Rt. 10. It's typical of Lancaster County in that you turn where the sign is, on good faith that there is a store back there and not just someone's home! It's located just down the driveway and is hidden from the road by trees. They have a small selection of local organic produce (ask to double-check about items; they are not advertised/certified), an aisle dedicated to natural health/personal care items, an aisle of snacks and vitamins, an aisle of baking supplies and ingredients, and several large freezers with snacks, organic nuts, gluten-free and natural bread options, and best of all--good, real meat, poultry, and seafood, some of which is local, especially the beef products which are the farmer's own steer. One of my favorite items from the store is the all-natural, nitrate-free beef sticks that they make. In a typical grocery store they are a highly processed and unhealthy option, but from Hartz's they are a healthy and easy high protein snack. The store is continuously expanding and changing. I was only in town for two weeks and each time I went in there were more items and new organization! I took my Mom there to get good, natural calcium supplements that were far superior to the synthetic ones at GNC or Walmart, and Anita shared a vast wealth of information and personal experience with her to help her in her decision. I try to eat only organic and non-gmo foods (what this basically means is that I want to eat real food, as God created it) and I couldn't have done that in Morgantown without Hartz's!

This was my first time at the Shady Maple Farm Market. My family loves the Shady Maple Smorgasbord…read morebut we've never tried their market before. Pleasantly surprised at the variety of all the prepared foods available. The bakery also does the donuts and desserts from the buffet and beautiful decorated cakes. There were customers in line waiting to place orders for cakes for their events. Sampled Watergate salad, pumpkin fudge, and kielbasa. Didn't get to try the cider or apple pastry because it was a bit crowded for the samples. Prices... comparable to regular supermarket prices on ambient and shelf stable goods. I actually came in to buy ground beef. Heard the 80/20 was cheaper than our local supermarket. It was a lot cheaper. I bought the 10 lb. package of 80/20 ground beef at $3.99/lb. Brought it home and divided it up. Very easy and economical. Their steaks and butcher case looked amazing. They even had a special $1/burger from the butcher case. If you've ever had the burgers at the buffet you know the quality of the meat is so fresh. Definitely worth it. On the way out is a snack bar where you can get hot dogs, chili, drinks and I believe ice cream too. There was a crowd there too so I didn't get to see the whole menu. You can eat your snacks at the tables in the sunny enclosed snack bar area. Next visit will be either the breakfast or lunch buffet then shop at the farm market. Maybe also shop in their gift store.

I especially loved their freshly made peanut butter, which comes in several flavors like honey, cinnamon, and chocolate, all at very reasonable prices. The bakery section was excellent as well, and they offered a wide variety of specialty teas that would make great gifts. I also appreciated that they sell chicken hearts and other less common cuts of meat at affordable prices! The market was clean and lively on the weekend. The cashier was friendly and nice. I tried their chicken pie and beef pie, but they were a little too salty for my taste. Overall, I would happily come back for the fresh peanut butter and meat!

Highly recommend this orchard as a good socially distanced activity with no reservations needed in…read moreadvance. Came with my boyfriend on a Saturday morning (I recommend coming early / around 9am or so, because it gets more crowded as you get to 10 or 11am - definitely check their hours in advance), and had such a lovely time. Great place to bring kids too - saw a good number of families around. Atmosphere: Everybody is expected to wear a mask while you're apple picking, and when you're at the farmer's market. There were clear signs marked for where the apples were best for picking (some sections had already been picked completely when we went). They also had vats out of apples that were done picking for the season, but that you could add to your bag. Pricing is available on their website, but you pre-pay for a size (we chose the 10-lb bag for $20), and then go on your way! Food/Apples: We picked a ton of evercrisp and found them very fresh - slightly tart, but also very sweet. They also allow you to try 2 apple samples before you go out to pick them yourselves. I loved their farmer's market - especially getting their own peanut butter (I was intrigued by the espresso peanut butter, so I grabbed a container of that)! Everything we tried from their market (pear cider, chocolate milk) was delicious. Overall: 5/5 - Highly recommend (and if you go earlier, there are generally less people). Such a nice fall activity, and one of my boyfriend's favorite trips over the past year.

Attended Fall Festival- simply too chaotic for my taste. They need a better plan! A map or list of…read moreactivities; or appointed people to push you in the right direction. We arrived w/ no clear sense of where to go or begin. There were tented areas, but then little shacks w/ awnings, pockets of people standing in a field, others across the street. Do I pay for this outside? Do I go inside? Are there tickets? The market (which had really nice things) was impossible to shop. Some things were outside, other things inside, w/ a line of people waiting to pay starting at the tented outside register area, backed up, weaving all the way thru the market isles to the front door. You had to squeeze between the line of people waiting to pay & the shelves of food to shop, making it hard to look at anything, much less grab anything. I know this sounds like a good problem to have, but not when chaos is driving the experience more than demand. Exhausted from wondering the outside trying to figure out what all there was to do & where to go, then braving the market, I decided to skip apple picking which was the main reason I was there! That process appeared even less clear, so no regrets. I do love the things purchased at the market, including apple cider donuts, frozen pastas, & Reading Soda Works bottles- just think I'll return to shop on a day when nothing is going on.
