We took the Classic Adventure which included six ziplines, a 70 foot rappelling wall and the aforementioned boat tour. The guides are fantastic. Very passionate about this little corner of PR. Sure, at first I thought I'd stepped into a 70's era hippie commune, but there is nothing fake about these guys. They do a great job of sizing up the abilities of the people on the tour and putting folks at ease with the equipment and the place. A couple words of warning: When they saw "turn off 111 onto a rural road" they mean rural road. Sure it seems paved, but the hills and turns are quite the challenge. At first it seemed quaint that there was a sign (in English) in the middle of nowhere that said to "beep" horn just prior to a hill. It's hard to describe the sense of "oh sh*t" when we reached the top of the hill and couldn't see the road ahead or behind. Just a rental car balanced on a peak like a twisted Dr. Suess tale. Yikes. On the way out, I was careful to 1) stop and blow the horn at every sign, 2) keep the window down and A/E off to listen for other horns and 3) keep the trans in low gear. Also, the Batey crew is more into the adventure than the reservation thing. Make sure you follow up the email with a phone call.

You must fill out a waiver due to safety concerns with sharp objects, so be careful. Emily was the person who assisted me and she was a gem and very encouraging. It took me a little while to get my positioning and stance down, but once I was comfortable I had a blast. This is exercise, or can be LOL. I was sweating bullets due to all the running back-and-forth and intensity of the throws. The staff was very accommodating and sweet and I was so happy that I stopped in to try this activity today.

Pretty cool atmosphere with very friendly and personable staff. Brandon, our throwing coach, really helped with detailed instructions to help us stick the axe and the girl who kept a cold one nearby was awesome! (Hate that I didn't get her name!) Along with axe throwing, foosball, cornhole & pool was available to keep you entertained! Great music playing in the background which I must add that was a playlist made up by the girl that I failed to get her name. When I asked about it she said she tried to put a little of everything for everyone! Excellent Idea!! There is even a hole in the floor covered with plexiglass that is an old tunnel with water that they have put fish in!! Great vibe here from the staff to the bathroom signs and even the bathroom faucets that light up when using them! Go check this place out if ever in Vicksburg!

It was a gi class, though a few students were still waiting on their gis, which was totally understandable given the timing. The environment was very beginner-friendly, but even as a black belt I found a lot of value in the instruction. The instructor clearly knows his stuff and does an excellent job teaching fundamentals with meaningful details. His style has a noticeable catch-wrestling influence, which gave the techniques a unique and practical feel that I really appreciated. You can tell he genuinely cares about his students--he kept a watchful eye on everyone, emphasized safety, and offered solid tips throughout class. What really stood out to me was the vibe of the gym. It has an old-school feel, almost like a classic boxing gym. Not one of those high-end, ultra-modern white gyms--but honestly, that's exactly what I like. It felt cozy, laid back, and authentic, like a place where real practitioners want to train. The mats were clean and in good condition, which obviously matters. Everyone there was welcoming and warm, and the class structure was solid: traditional warmups, focused drilling, and quality instruction. I can easily see this school growing as more people discover it. If you're looking for a laid-back, old-school jiu-jitsu environment with thoughtful instruction, this place is definitely worth checking out.

Grand Gulf State Park is a great place to visit…read more Over the past few months I have been lucky enough to visit several places that hold a lot of fond childhood memories. Grand Gulf is one such place. During my years as a Boy Scout, we camped and hiked at Grand Gulf on several occasions. I will never forget climbing the observation tower, hiking through the woods, or roaming through the old cemetery in the middle of the night. As an adult I didn't do all of those things, but I did thoroughly enjoy my visit. Grand Gulf is located near Port Gibson, on the way to the Windsor Ruins. If you're staying in Vicksburg, I recommend a stop here on the way to or from Windsor. If you are in Vicksburg and not going to Windsor, you need to adjust your plans ASAP. One of the main draws to this park is the availability of RV hookups and tent camping spots. I didn't see any tent campers when I visited, but there were plenty of RVs. There was a nice bathhouse in the center of the RV area and it had both men and women's showers and flushing toilets. The main attractions for day visitors is their observation tower, Civil War Mortar, the old cemetery, the old church, the old water wheel, and the Mississippi River. All of these things are cool, but I will focus on just a few. The old Grand Gulf city cemetery has seen its better days. It is not as old as some cemeteries I have visited, but many of the graves pre-date the civil war. If you are a fan of cemeteries, or history, it is a must see. The highlight for me was actually something I see every day, albeit a very different view. There is a road across from the Grand Gulf park that leads to the bank of the river. The difference here is that there is no levee and there is no development on either bank. Plus you can stand on the bank and Mississippi and look across the river at Louisiana. How cool is that? If my description doesn't impress you, just trust me and check it out. It is well worth it. Grand Gulf is really cool, but I don't know if I would make a special trip unless I were already in the area. If you are and RV or tent camper, it could be a cheap place to stay if you plan of visiting the park and Vicksburg.
