We discovered the Bazar in Amsterdam on our second visit to the city late in 2019. This old church building has been converted into a buzzing place for locals and tourists alike to enjoy a great meal. We got to the restaurant around 9pm just as the place was about to slow down. We got sat immediately and our server promptly asked for drinks while we decided what to order. We got the lentil soup and the Adana kebab platter. Both the soup and entree serving were a lot of food yet very delicious. The service at the bazar is excellent and they take Apple Pay which is now the common way to pay for pretty much everything in Europe. 5 star restaurant in central Amsterdam. Popular place for drinks and middle eastern food if you like it as much as we do. read more

Food was great, however the atmosphere was not. I did not like the table set up or the way they had set up the restaurant. It was freezing inside. It didn't feel clean. Honestly the food saves this review. We had the rice which was good but their stew was amazing! Potatoes I would skip. Their chicken and lamb was also very very delicious and tasty. Nothing was spicey which was great, everything was just very flavorful. It's definitely not Dutch food, it's more of the middle eastern food. The place used to be an old church, so it's humongous! There's an upstairs and the church decorations are still there. Food was good. I got the chicken kabob with rice. The chicken came out hot and flavorful. Eat it while it's hot! It was good. I haven't had flavorful chicken like that at a Middle eastern place in awhile. My friend got the same but with shrimp and cous cous. The shrimp was really good too! I really enjoyed Bazar after giving boring Dutch food a try the previous two nights. Bazar is a massive, two story open room with great Moroccan decor. We got there pretty early, but people eventually funneled in. For an appetizer we got a variety of hummus and other spreads which were all good. The main courses were gigantic. I ordered the lamb shank which is always a good decision. It had some great spices and had a mix of carbs to keep the variation up. If you want to stay clear of the crummy tourist options come here like we did. read more

There was no wait to get seated but there was a long wait for our food--probably 35 minutes. The appetizer sampler was great, but the entrees were just huge and forgettable leaving you stuffed but regretting. We ordered the 1000hole pancake for dessert (under recommendation from our server) and no one liked it. We also got the baklava and it was among the worst I've had. Apparently, this place is the 7th most interesting thing to do in Amsterdam, according to TripAdvisor. Oh Mein Gott, what a terrible website. This place was aight - we came with a big group on a Sunday, seated immediately, and had our orders taken promptly. The decor was cool, but a) the beers sucked (even their Heineken was flat), and b) the food was absolutely mediocre. The waitress told us that they were out of chicken. ORLY Bazar?! It was like, 7 pm! Pros: appetizers were decent, their focaccia-type bread was tasty, and it came with some nice olive/hummus spread. Cons: the mains were pretty lame. We tried the lamb kebab plate, a lamb stew, and the mushroom/falafel plate (all about 15-16 Euro). Yawwwn. Nothing stood out, and for God's sake, the beer was flat. You'd probably get better food at the local Donor Kebab shop near Centraal. Two stars for the decor though, the place was pretty kewl. read more

Wow - what a find! Let the golden angel on the rooftop serve as your beacon. You've really got to look past the trash in the street (as the daily dismantling of the Albert Cuypmarkt tends to leave quite a lot), and just go inside. There you'll be treated to a multinational assortment of waitstaff working in concert to ensure you have a good time and an excellent meal. I wish I'd taken photos of our food. Not only was it delicious, but think "mass quantities." Even the baklava that I ordered for dessert came in four separate pieces (each enough for one serving) and it was covered in spun sugar... like cotton candy without the food coloring. (Major drool!) Bazar is a wonderful Moroccan restaurant located in the heart of the Depijp district.The restaurant is quite unique, it's located in an old church in the midst of bustling traffic, near the open air market. The decor really captures your attention. I was very much impress with this spacious, colorful North-African restaurant. The ambiance demonstrates a rich Moroccan culture intertwined with other cultures and nations. The food is lovely with generous portions of culinary delights. Service is appropriately attentive and the price is very reasonable. I adored the atmosphere and exquisite authentic cuisine on the menu, which was presented with a modern flair of Moroccan, Turkish and Tunesian dishes. It's definitely a restaurant that I would consider going again for lunch. I ordered a cold salad, which included Zaalouk, an eggplant and tomato mixture of green peppers, garlic and spices. This dish is ideal if you have any dietary restrictions. In addition, it's an ideal place for large groups and quite lekker ( delicious) in Dutch terms! One of my favorite Arabic restaurants in Amsterdam. Located at the 'Albert Kuypstraat' so during the day its hidden behind the market stands. This place looks amazing. You should come here for the interior alone. But its even better: Love the food! Also a friendly staff. You never have to wait long and there are plenty of seats. This place is also great for vegetarians, there are many options without meat! The menu is very big and the food comes in generous portions. You can also have breakfast/brunch here, which I really recommend. The breakfast is served on a huge Arabic plate with all kinds of stuff and you can eat from it together. This was on the list of places to review finally. I have been to Bazar a few times now and always had a good experience. Even when the place is packed, which it often is, the service has been decent. One major benefit to Bazar aside from the great ambiance (it is a restaurant inside an old church) is there are plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. Many of my friends and family have these dietary concerns but also go dining with some meant eaters. This is a place where both can be happy. The atmosphere is lovely, apparently a converted church interior- with lotsa tables, festive decor, and the pretty plates on which they serve giant platters of deliciousness. We ordered a vegetarian plate that serves 4 and we could barely finish. The variety is great, and the portions are more than filling which makes it worth the cost. Definitely go if you're looking for a fun ethnic setting wherein to grab a good meal and exchange stories with friends. Really impressed by the absolutely beautiful Location and all the different Impressions when looking around inside the mighty Halls of Bazar I had high expectations regarding the Food. We ordered a mixed plate with meat for the Four of us. What we got is a large bowl filled with Rice, tomatoes and köfte (which was the most delicious food served). On top there were spits with chicken (which was dry and kinda hard to eat), Champignons and onions. This came with a beef hotpot and traditional tabouleh, which was great because of its freshness (lot of spices, little couscous) Staff was very Professional but not that friendly and kind of cutty. We were here as a party of 4 persons and were fully satisfied and have had more than enough to eat! If you are a party of 4 or more persons, make a reservation early enough! To see the menu check out the photos, I uploaded all the pages of it in english. You can also get the menu in german and other languages if you ask them. This place is sooooo cool! It used to be a church so the ceilings are really high. There is a ground floor with a bar in the middle. More seats are in the second floor which is built along the walls, as you know second floors from churches. The place is decorated really nice! One wall is tiled from the bottom up to the ceiling with tiles in a mediterranean/arabic style. There are big colored lamps/lantern and a chandelier as well. The whole place is really colorful and the atmosphere is relaxed. Let's head over to the food: it was really delicious! Two of us ordered the bizar bazar with meat and the other ones the el couscous with meat and the mosàmma as a veggie dish. All three menus were yummy! The main dishes are big enough, so don't order that many starters! We had the abdhul's starter for 2 persons and it was enough for us to still have some space left... The service was okay but seemed to be in a hurry sometimes. They forgot about us after we ordered the starters and we had to remind them, that we'd also like to have some main dishes. I have been to Bazar a few times. It's an alright-restaurant... The architecture of the actual restaurant is very interesting: it's an ancient church! only for that it's probably worth having dinner there once. It's quite beautiful!! The downside is that the place can get very loud. Service is extremely fast! The food: lots of choice on the menu, from lunch to dinner through borrel, you can get any size you want, meat dishes, fish dishes, and many vegetarian options as well. So thumbs up for the choice! For the taste... The flavors just didn't seem very strong to me, and for me Arabic food is all about the flavors and spices that should be complex and delicate... It's alright, don't get me wrong, it's nice, but not amazing, that's it. The wine is terrible, don't even try it. read more

I wasn't expecting fabulous food based on other Yelp reviews, and it was open on Sunday, which most other places aren't. On the other hand, the service was really really slow even by European standards, and the food was perhaps the blandest I've ever had. The motto (in Hebrew!) on one wall translates as something like: "A meal together is the oil of friendship." Bazar is not the best Middle Eastern food you'll ever eat, nor the most "authentic" or refined. But it's loud, brash, colorful, and fun--truly devoted to enjoying time together. The interior is striking, reason enough to wade through the trash at the Albert Cuyp market outside. It's a riot of color and noise. Kids run up and down the stairs (just fine, as no one can hear them) while their parents relax with a beer nearby. There's plenty of room for groups. The high-ceilinged space can get warm and noisy. Even with all that, the ambiance is stylish and comfortable. The food is mostly fine. The basic sigara is big and crisp, with good feta inside. We ordered one of the popular combinations, with lamb, as an entree to share. It was an almost insane amount of food. Dangerous-looking skewers over a massive bowl of rice, plus tabouli salad, pickles, a small pot of lamb stew, and yogurt sauce. Oh, and frites, for some reason. (I would have preferred pita, lavash, or the fluffy Turkish-style bread I saw at other tables.) The vegetables on the skewers were great, but there was only one (!) piece of lamb, and it was almost impossible to chew. It really didn't matter, as the lamb stew was delicious. I hope that skewer was a mistake from the kitchen, and not some restaurant policy. (All the meat is halal, according to the menu.) The service is sweet and efficient. The host downstairs is super-enthusiastic, eager to tell you about the new Bazar offerings in Rotterdam. You know, we had such fun here that I might just check it out on our next trip. read more

Nestled in the background of the lively Albert Cuyp market is this beautifully decorated Mediterranean/Arabian (I'd say it's basically Moroccan) restaurant. The space is HUGE with two floors and two bars. I could see it easily being a great spot for a private party as well. I came here on a rainy Amsterdam Sunday afternoon with a friend. We got the 'large lunch' Nahar which is about 11 euro per person. Warning: It turns out to be a LOT of food for two people. BUT at the same time, you get to sample a wide variety of the menu. The merguez sausages, sarma, and zaalouk are all amazing. It doesn't get a 5 star from me because the service was somewhat lacking. We were never asked for refills of water or were never really checked up after the meal was dropped off at our table. I found this surprising just because the restaurant wasn't terribly busy. I would normally chalk it up to Dutch service, but even by Dutch standards it was more stand-offish than I've become accustomed to. Hopefully your server is slightly more attentive. read more

As being a Turkish one, I might be tougher than others. The menu is limited for a very rich cuisine. How does it taste? Ok. I would understand why people would like the atmosphere but not for me. I started with the fried calamari appetizer which was fried crispy but not overcooked served with tartar sauce and then for my entrée I had the lamb shank. Now let's talk about this lamb shank I could say damn near cooked to perfection! Served with a sauce of beans and prunes over basmati rice with a yogurt dipping sauce and a taboulleh salad. And I am not saying it was bad, there was just the certain something missing - the passion, the authenticy, the specialty. Had planned to go to Bazar with a group of friends (6 people) on a Wednesday night in October, around 8pm. I thought a) it's wednesday b) it's 'late' for dinner by Dutch standards and therefore didn't make a reservation. The place was packed. We had to wait 20 minutes -- not bad at all -- and I enjoyed being in a bustling restaurant. We were a combination of out of town friends and locals - Dutch and non-dutch - meat eaters and non-meat eaters. We all had a great time. I really enjoy the vibe - it is bright, colorful, fun. The food is good and filling. Like others say, not the most amazing middle easter cuisine you can find, but good portions and really good prices. Service is meh but they try. A friend came to town and to kill two birds with one stone, we walked through Albert Cuyp and grabbed some lunch in the area. Usually while browsing a market, the best food is always street food. But on this particular day, the cold was too much to bare, and while quickly browsing yelp, I gave my friend a few options of what was around. We both decided a levant lunch was in order. I believe this was an old church, converted to a huge open-style restaurant, whose hustle and bustle is not unlike something you'd see in the middle east. The main wall to the right of the entrance is beautifully tiled with deep shades of blue and light hues of the old world. We were sat upstairs (with a great view!) and the service was GREAT. I was so pleasantly surprise. The menu is big, and if you get overwhelmed, just order the mixed lunch like we did. With samples of a little of this and that, you won't be disappointed! It includes everything from falafel to grape leaves, hummus + bread and tons of other delicious treats. To finish, we had some mighty strong coffee and a newfound bounce in our step.
