She incorporates each days lesson into play (which is wonderful for my 3 year old.) Each visit she has a new lesson for my son and always explains to me the purpose of working on each item and goal she is trying to achieve. She is patient and kind and my son absolutely adores her. He has made incredible progress since starting just 3 months ago. I am so thankful we found Jocelyn and would go nowhere else for speech services.

I had an incredibly upsetting and harmful experience with Jocelyn Lagier. She diagnosed my…read moredaughter, who was barely three years old at the time, with a severe speech disorder. Without my knowledge or consent, she sent this evaluation to the private school we were applying to--an action that directly resulted in my daughter being denied acceptance. This not only devastated us at the time but set off an entire year of emotional stress and confusion. Fast forward to a year later: after seeing multiple other speech therapists for second (and third) opinions, every single one has said the same thing--my daughter has no speech disorder. In fact, she doesn't even qualify for speech therapy at all. It's clear to me now that Jocelyn Lagier was more interested in keeping us on a path of ongoing, unnecessary therapy sessions--ultimately for financial gain. She was not warm, supportive, or collaborative. She did not listen to my concerns as a parent, and I truly believe she caused harm rather than helped. I'm writing this review because I don't want another family to go through what we did. If you're looking for a thoughtful, ethical, and child-centered speech therapist, I strongly suggest you look elsewhere. This was a deeply painful and frustrating experience, and one I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Yes You Can Speak - I'm opening the doors for you to public speak well.

Before the program I had a challenging time speaking my truth from my heart with people I felt might not be safe. Now I can have difficult conversations with an open heart rather than needing to be protective or defensive. My general confidence has improved immensely, and so has ability to pause instead of saying "um," my vocal variety and use of hand gestures. I love how deep it was, especially the part where we connected with our core values and spoke from that place of authenticity. It's powerful! This program is not at all just about public speaking, it's about giving you tools and techniques to live a much fuller life whether you're with an authority figure, a team, in an interview, on stage, or with a loved one . I loved it so much, I just asked Lynn, "What will it take to be part of your team?"

I never feared public speaking, I feared speaking without preparation. I felt confident when I had…read moretime to think things through, but if I was calleyyd on spontaneously, I froze. My inner critic would chime in: "You're rambling! You're not making sense! Hurry up!" And just like that, I'd lose my train of thought and sound anything but clear or confident. As someone pursuing speaking more seriously, I knew I had to get past this. I joined a local Toastmasters club, which helped with structure and delivery techniques, but it didn't get to the root. I didn't need to memorize a speech. I needed to feel confident grabbing the mic with no idea what I'm going to say, and still pack a punch with my message. I met Lynn when she stopped by my local Toastmaster club as a guest speaker. By the end of her workshop, I was speaking freely, no notes, no rehearsals. In less than an hour, she got me to trust myself, and my message came across clear and resonate. So, I joined her Level 1 course. I'll be honest, at first, I was hesitant. The exercises were simple, even a little "woo-woo" and I doubted if it would really change me. We practiced looking in the mirror to say affirmations. We marched around chanting, "I don't know what I'm going to say, but it's going to be great!" and various other fun things! But it worked. Week by week, those small practices paired with real speaking challenges rewired my brain. This class brought me to tears countless times. In 4 weeks, I grew more confident, more self-assured. For the first time, I believed that I could do this. I could trust that I knew what I wanted to say and didn't have to rely on perfect preparation to say it, and say it well. Lynn created an extremely safe, low-pressure container, that feels easy to do, yet the internal shifts and changes are monumental. Everyone in the class went from unsure, to confident. Our last session was so powerful. The new-found authority in the room was palpable. It also happened to fall on my birthday. The group, who by then felt like family, surprised me with a cake and a song. So nice! Lynn teaches from the heart. Her approach gently unearths the root of fear. A month later, I'm still applying what I learned. I'm leading meetings more clearly, toasting at dinner, raising my hand to speak, looking myself in the mirror with kindness before judgement, and, most importantly, trusting myself more than ever. If you want to uncover what's holding you back and try simple yet powerful tools to break through it, Lynn's class is a safe and transformative place to start. I highly recommend!

Smooth English - Sheila, Accent Reduction Coach | English language classes | Private English tutor in Los Gatos California

    Smooth English

    (19 reviews)

Some sounds spoken in the American English language are not very clear for other language speakers…read more For example, for some Latin language speakers, usually words such as "bad / bed" and "sheep/ ship" sound literally the same. As a Latin language speaker myself, one can imagine the kind of misunderstanding some conversations I had would cause, right? I had tried taking classes with several teachers before finding Sheila, and none were able to help me understand the difference of these sounds, much less teach me how to repeat and imitate these sounds myself. Then, I finally met Sheila. Sheila was able to help me recognize the differences of many english sounds which I didn't know how to tell one from the other, and she also helped me recognize sounds/words I was mispronouncing without even knowing it. She also helped me repeat these sounds myself, and it amazes me how her knowledge is so broad when it comes to english in all aspects! During our classes, she would explain to me the positioning of the lips and the tongue, the opening of the mouth and where I should "feel" the sound coming from when saying vowels and consonants sounds out loud. She knows a level of detail about pronunciation that I didn't even know existed, and even though it took a while for my ears to get trained and recognize these different sounds, I can see my accent is getting more natural (and smooth!) by the day with our classes! What's also incredible about Sheila is that, additionally, she has so much English knowledge that goes way beyond pronunciation. She has been teaching me and my husband some advanced grammar rules that sometimes we'd overlook and make mistakes. She has also been helping us with our "flow" when speaking and reading, showing us how English speakers add rhythm to the phrases, which words to emphasize, how to pronounce some words we were mispronouncing, amongst so many other things! And to keep the classes interesting, we have even read books together, and discussed not only the grammar and vocabulary of those books, but also some deeper literature topics and discussed the interpretation of what we had just read! She has deep knowledge of the English language in so many different aspects that I get amazed and surprised at every new topic she finds for us to cover in our classes. I have been taking classes for a few years now, and I know I still have a long way to go before losing my accent and sounding more like a native speaker, but I can also see how far I have gotten since I started taking these classes. As one of the most knowledgeable teachers I've seen, I definitely recommend her classes to any level of English speaker!
