We had Max and his crew work on asphalt paving outside our home. Overall they completed the job but not without drama, threats and damage to our property. 1) They finished laying asphalt in a day - however, they paved over the water meter that was outside our home effectively blocking access to the meter. The city was not able to read the meter as a result. They also damaged our neighbors postbox and post. 2) We identified the issue immediately before full payment was made the next day. Half of the payment in cash as requested by them was made. 3) Max insisted that they didn't asphalt over the water meter and the damage to the post wasn't their work although we were pretty sure that was the case. Instead of talking through and trying to fix the issue, he demanded payment for the rest of the job from us in cash. We let him know that as soon as the asphalt is cut and the water meter is exposed + postbox damage was fixed, the job wasn't effectively done and that we would pay the rest of the balance after. This is when the threats started. 3) He threatened to damage our property, come back with his crew the next day and remove half the asphalt in front of our home unless we paid him right then. Needless to say, we were shocked with the attitude. When we politely requested that he complete the job and fix damage, he drove off with more threats to damage our property and slap liens on our home. 4) I called him back and reinforced that we didn't want any trouble but just that the job wasn't done right. We were bullied by him to pay full the amount in cash right on the spot. We yielded after he sent an email acknowledging that his crew would come back the next day to fix both the issues. His crew finished the job today and corrected the damage done but not without severe emotional damage and stress including threats. read more

Max was very straightforward with his pricing (which was great) and time frame. His workers arrived on time and listened to what I wanted. Max showed up about half way into the job and was very personable while we watched the progress...this was a small area and they were done in a reasonable amount of time, considering his crew had to drive all the way to San Jose to get the hot asphalt (the plant in Oakland was closed). He fixed a big area that had dipped and was a tripping hazard. Put in the asphalt and got it striped professionally with parking lot paint that lasts. He also put in the pole holes for the net.
