First, I want to shout out the dental hygienists, because I have never had a bad experience with a simple cleaning! They've all been kind, friendly, and gentle. The receptionists have always been very nice, as well. Unfortunately, I have not had the same experiences with Dr. Rowley. I had some dental issues that required me to get a bridge over three teeth. A different dentist (no longer there) installed it. For 2-3 years afterward, I complained of sensitivity in the area each time I went in, and was told that was normal and it would go away. Finally got an X-ray and it showed that the dentist had incorrectly placed the bridge, leaving a gap exposing nerves. Now, I am thankful that Dr. Rowley didn't charge me to replace it--however, the issue could have been resolved years prior if I had been taken seriously! When I went in to have the bridge replaced, I was not numb enough. The pain was awful and when I asked for more anesthetic, I was given so much that my tongue, mouth, and entire lower half of my face was numb for two days. After covid, I returned to have a cavity filled, and brought this up--I was told I'd be fine, but they'd numb me extra if it'd make me feel better. Cool. Again, I was numb for about a day and a half, which was way longer than necessary. Sorry I didn't want dental pain, I guess? Anyway, Dr. Rowley dropped me as a patient because she was overcharging my father for cleanings, and he dared to bring it up! So I got dropped, even though I was twenty-eight years old and on my own insurance plan. Guess she did me a favor, even though Bayside is the only dentist in Anacortes that takes my insurance. But I'd rather pay out of pocket or make the trip out of town than be treated like that ever again. read more

Wonderful dental care experience. The front and back office staff present professionally in a congenial and knowledgeable manner. The relaxed happy ambience throughout the office reflects Dr. Rowleys' well honed leadership skills. A well cared for and happy staff is obvious in the high level of kindness in patient care. Each aspect of my appointment, from scheduling as a new patient through treatments (Dental Exam, X-Rays, Hygiene and a filling) was clearly discussed. When Dr. Kuzma retired, and Dr. Rowley took over the business, I wasn't sure I would stay on as a patient. I was coming up from San Francisco because I thought Dr. Kuzma was that good, but Dr. Rowley is even better! She replaced all the old stuff with state of the art equipment, her hand is much steadier, and she is very patient and thorough in her procedures - communicating along the way! The office, itself is super clean, and the staff are friendly, focused, and open to any questions about scheduling, billing, and the like. I have since moved to Seattle, and I still make the trek to Bayside Dental. For me, there's no better. read more

Don't ask questions about your bill. My family & I went to Dr. Rowley for years. I noticed that my secondary insurance was reimbursing her office an extra $8 for a procedure, over & above the negotiated fee. Instead of applying that extra $8 to the bill I had for another procedure, she refused to acknowledge it. It was very easy to see that she was getting an extra $8 above the negotiated fee because she received $8 less from my secondary insurer when that same procedure was completed on the other members of my family (we all have the same insurance so the same procedure should pay the exact same amount). Eventually she sent us a letter telling us she was dropping us as patients because of the difficulties in collecting our "nominal fees". Over $8! Either she was incapable of following her own paper trail to see that she was indeed receiving $8 more from insurance than what she was owed, or she just wanted to pocket the extra money without giving her customer the benefit of the over-payment she had received. My insurance company said any over-payment should be credited to the customer but she clearly did not agree. I never really got an answer because once I started asking too many questions we were dropped as patients. I do NOT recommend going to Dr. Rowley. If you do, then you should probably just pay whatever she tells you to pay because she does not want to answer any questions about how she arrives at her totals. It is a good lesson in paying close attention to your negotiated fees, following through to ensure your insurance pays what is owed, and making sure your dentist correctly applies what they receive from insurance to your bill. read more

Be aware! Do you want to clean your bank account, then go to visit BAYSIDE DENTAL in Anacortes, WA 98221, especially Dr. Christine Woodward and Kathleen Rowley? Super good at cleaning out your bank account. I am a retired dentist and know very well how to conduct dental business and handle bill disputes. Here is my experience with BAYSIDE DENTAL in Anacortes. On 05/27/21, I lost part of my very small resin-based composite ONE SURFACE (lingual) filling on my front tooth #8. On 06/04/21, I visited BAYSIDE DENTAL to replace it. At the very beginning of my visit, I told Christine Woodward I'm a retired dentist. She replaced my filling. My total was $437.00. She gave me a whopping "huge senior discount" of $15.50. WOW!!! I paid $294.50; they billed my insurance for the balance of $127.00 for one X-ray ($37.00) and limited oral evaluation ($90.00). WOW!!! Oral evaluation for what? I'm a retired dentist; I didn't need her oral evaluation nor X-ray of my tooth. She charged me for three surfaced filling not one surfaced. If you pay w/your credit card, watch out. They DO NOT run your card in front of you. They take your credit card behind a partition. You don't even see if they take a photocopy of your card! I'm sure they do! Wow!!! This is super fishy business! This is how they get you! Unbelievable! On 07/01/21, I got a Statement from them for $127.00. Of course, my insurance didn't pay. On that day, I called BAYSIDE DENTAL talked to Brandee, requested to talk to Woodward about the huge overcharge/discrepancy of my bill. On 07/05/21, I wrote an e-mail to the clinic owner, Kathleen Rowley, requesting to send me all my signed paperwork and talk about my bill. As of today, 07/10/21, no signed paperwork, no call with an explanation why they overcharged me! Total ignorance of the patients! Very unprofessional!!! Do not go to that place! Total disaster! Here is an update. On 07/14/21 finally the owner of that place called me! She accused me of being a liar even though she doesn't know me. SHE IS A LIAR. I was a former patient of Dr. Kusma and I was sad when he retired. I decided to give Bayside a try when he retired and I am so happy I did! The dentist is gentle and knowledgeable... I really like the care she takes. The techs are also all great. They seem to remember you by name and are always friendly, gentle and thorough. I also have to mention their front desk gal is so great. She's friendly, efficient and makes it a point to make sure you are taken care of. Twice when I've had longer dental procedures done they've sent me home with a goodie bag of chicken noodle soup, hot tea, Advil, chapstick, a cotton pad and printed aftercare instructions. I've never had a dental office do something so thoughtful. I'm so glad they took over this dental practice. I'll be a patient as long as they're around! read more

At first this office was great. Upon needing further work and evaluation, things went down hill quickly. While the staff and dental assistants were extremely friendly and pleasant, I would not recommend this practice. It is concerning that I have paid for dental services and was told the fillings were high (causing pain and discomfort) and I was met with extreme resistance and condescension in attempt to get the matter fixed. I was in Anacortes, WA on a job, from FL. I needed a tooth repaired. I only had a day. I was pleasantly surprised at how energetically the front desk worked to get me in and scheduled. They are busy. This is the most professional and courteous dental care office I've never known could exist. Absolutely nothing to make one uncomfortable, at all, in any way. I didn't think I'd ever say this. But, going to this dental care office was aleasure. Makes me wish I lived there. If all dentists were like this one I'd be looking for a reason to go back in rather than the opposite. read more

5 months ago a dog ate my final aligner (the one that holds my teeth straight). I called my dentist to order a new one. The dentist took X-rays and said I needed some cavities filled before we could do a mold of my teeth because they would change the shape. From here I ended up needing a root canal and a crown as well. His was all fine. Normal dentist stuff. Finally this was all done they took a mold of my teeth and sent it off. Two or three weeks later I contacted them (because they didn't contact me yet) and they said it broke in transit. We did another mold of my teeth. With my former dentist it always arrived within 10 business days. Three weeks later I called (because they hadn't contacted me). They said they'd look into it and call me. I didn't get a call for a couple days so I called them again. The receptionist looked and said it was in and that the dentist would be calling me. A few days later I called again (because they didn't call) and I was set up for an appointment to get my aligner. I was called the next day by the dentist and told it wasn't in and that she didn't know why the receptionist said it was. About a week later I was told it was in and that I could come in to get it. They said they needed to set my crown permanently first. When I came in to have my crown taken off they said it should take 10 minutes to remove my crown and set it permanently. After about 20-25 minutes of yanking on it, pulling on it and scratching it up not to mention grabbing my gums with the grabbers a few times they said they'd stop torturing me. I got my aligners and left agreeing to give it time to loosen on its own. I showed up for my next appointment and had my teeth cleaned and then they attempted to get my crown off again. 25 minutes later (I checked my watch this time) they again said they'd stop torturing me. They said I had two options I could wait for it to loosen on its own or they could do a whole new crown at their expense. I opted for waiting. I told them that my aligner wasn't straightening my teeth and they said I'd have to order different ones if that's what I wanted. The dentist saw I wasn't happy with this and said she'd check the former owner of the practice's record to see if she could order one from the people he got mine from. She said she'd call the lab and then call me. She didn't call me so I waited a few days and called them. The receptionist said that the dentist needed to call the owner of the practice but they were out of town for 5 days. I have no idea what happened to calling the lab. The dentist called me tonight. She said that the aligners that My former dentist had me use were ineffective and that I would need extensive work with an orthodontist (many trays). I told her that I wanted a refund for the two aligners that I purchased from them because -why would I order aligners to keep my teeth crooked? She said she'd look into what the cost was above what they had to pay and would reimburse only that amount. I feel this is unacceptable. I told her this and she said that it is unlikely that complete reversal of the teeth straightening would have occurred since December. I told her it is slight movement not complete reversal. I told her they were straight in December and now they are not. She said they have no way to tell if that is fact. I told her I was done talking to her and hung up on her. Now I can't floss between my front teeth because it's horribly painful (where one of my filling was done), I can't chew crunchy food without pain on either side of my mouth (two of the teeth they put fillings in), my crown (which is scratched all over) will eventually fall off and the aligner (that I have two of) is holding my teeth crooked. I feel like they don't listen to me and that they talk down to me like I have no idea what I'm talking about. I'm so frustrated. I have not ever in my life had such a bad experience with people who call themselves professionals. I recommend going to any other dentist. read more
