We understood that flats were not to be returned as they have had issues in the past with past customers mixing up the boxes. However, we had purchased 3 hearthstones as the dealer told us that was all we would need. When building the fireplace we actually needed 4. As we live 50 miles from Queensbury we tried to match our hearthstone with similar outfits in Albany as we only needed one more hearth stone. Since we could not find a perfect color match, we had to purchase 4 hearthstones elsewhere. We were told we might need a bag of mortar (80 lbs). We never opened the bag as we dry stacked the stones. We had our fireplace built this past week. When I called Duke Concrete to ask them to take back the product we did not use, they refused. As the seller told us we only needed 3 hearth stones and the mortar, we think that it would be their responsibility to take care of their customer and graciously accept the returns. We spent $115.10 that we did not get back. Needless to say, we do not recommend using Duke Concrete because if you ever over buy or under buy as we did, YOU WILL NOT GET YOUR MONEY BACK. This company is a joke... for all the knowledge they say they have is a joke…read more.. this company didnt even want to dig out dirt to level the ground to lay the crush stone and rebar to pour the 6" concrete that was verbally agreed upon. so he had to reschedule the pour and couldnt get it soon enough for him to get paid his balance so he wanted to come bring bags to lay his concrete but for the (8x20) size of slab it would need over 200 bags of concrete. So this sounds funny. Then I did my own research, and he was to clean out all the old concrete and blacktop and any branches to make sure all debris was out so the prep can be set for the laying of the concrete. Only took him a total of 5 hours (in 3 different days to total those hours) to do his demo of all the old material. He definitely is the kind of person who tell you one thing verbally and do totally different in his work. He does not show up for work when he tells you he will... He is always non communicable. He says he doesn't need to talk with the person who hired him to do the work. He does not think he is doing anything wrong, but when you only work only 2 hours on a day that he chooses to work, and not consecutive days at that. How do you work like that to prepare any job site for a project to get finished. In all reality, he does not even clean up his mess he just leaves it all around on your property for the next time he comes back which is not the next day. It is when he thinks he should come back to the job site to do more work. Project was to lay an 8' x 20' concrete slab; he thinks its ok to frame in with just a 2 x 4 and not clean out the area which he just pulled up old black top crumbles and old concrete crumbles. when you do your own research is says that all debris need to be cleaned out, so the concrete does not heave or get spider web breaks in it. He is not consistent with his ability to accomplish the task you want done. I will never recommend his company for he wouldn't even admit to the verbal conversation we had. IF YOU WORK WITH HIM DONT SIGN HIS AGGREEMENT WITHOUT HIM PUTTIN THE COMPLETE SCOPE OF WORK IN THE AGGREMENTEMENT BECAUSE HE WILL ACT LIKE YOU DID NOT HAVE A VERBAL COMMUNICATION REGARDING THE SCOPE OF WORK TO BE DONE. NOT AT ALL DEPENDABLE! NOT EVEN TRUTHFUL ABOUT CONVERSATIONS SO MAKE SURE IT IS ALL TYPED IN HIS AGREEMENT. Mr. Adam Owens the Contractor did some…read moreshoddy workmanship for me they did not complete the work my sidewalks and front of my home are a mess, rocks everywhere, debri. I had to tape off the front because it's dangerous. I had to clean up after them told them not to leave tools and important items laying around as to may get stolen around here where I live and actually almost did. Now they won't return my texts, calls or emails. I trusted them I paid them a deposit, made sure they had electricity and water checked in periodically. Work demolition started out great they cleared old sidewalks and front area of my home cleaned it up nice. When it came down to getting the area ready for the pour of cement this is when it went downhill and the pour itself a nightmare. Some areas didn't get filled others wrongly spread the lines and grooves where not put in accordance to city standards, they didn't wait left property right away some of the men looked like they didn't know what they where doing the list goes on and on. I sent Adam pictures of how my front of the house should have looked 2 times and gave him the city guidelines for the sidewalks. Adam stated he knew how to do sidewalks I saw pictures of their work on their website and Yelp it's amazing. He tried to make it right after asked me for more money for materials to only make the job worse. You have to see this to believe it the sidewalks are not leveled, trip hazard, water piles on it, he left gravel pile in the middle of sidewalk. The sidewalks are already cracking and falling apart. They never put dirt back on the sides of sidewalks so there are gaping holes just horrible they scrapped up my driveway. I've tried reaching Adam many times at one point he wrote me back via email and stated he has intentions of returning to the property but didn't show up yet. He sent me an appt. txt never showed up. Adam and crew are not punctual at all many times have shown up late or in the afternoons with excuses somedays didn't come at alI wasting my time I took off from work. I had to constantly call and text him a job that should have taken 1 to 2 weeks has turned out to be more than a month now a true nightmare. I'm over it so upset, frustrated, stressed, feel like I been taken advantage of idk if he is doing this because I am a single woman this is not right and not how you conduct business with people. I don't get it he was a nice guy, respectful, knowledgeable, friendly at first until I expressed my dissatisfaction with the work. I told him if he didn't know what he was doing he should of said something from the beginning. These sidewalks now have to be torn apart and redone all over a waste of time, materials, money, and trust. I don't have money like that I took out a loan I have already started paying back and still don't have my finished sidewalks and front of my home completed correctly. He is a fraud. He gave me an excellent quote in the beginning to only play games after. I posted this so others are wary of this man and don't fall into the same mistake I did.
