After climbing a full set of stairs (handicap accessible only on the first floor thru a side ramp), you enter a grand foyer lit by brass chandeliers with a dramatic staircase on each side. Entering thru double doors, you are in the main ballroom that has two fireplaces and crystal chandeliers. The main ballroom leads to an enclosed Veranda that offers great views of a wooded back yard and grounds. There is a small exhibit room up stairs and a parlor where we all gather for a family member's wedding ceremony and big reception afterwards, outside. All was great on the location and venue choice tip. My only gripe with this venue, was the poor planning for a large wedding party. My cousin had her wedding here in August (dog days of summer) and the venue provided a really nice tent set up for an outdoor reception. It really fit the bill until you walked inside and realized it felt like a greenhouse! The outdoor AC units were running on high and useless. The venue management should have planned better given the weather and knowing it's the dead middle of the summer in MD....which is always HOT! The tent was apparently setup shortly, hours before their wedding and the AC units did not have time to cool the place. Instead, they should have been running overnight because it was extremely uncomfortable and everyone was sweating bullets in the place--drenched. lol. It definitely dampened the occasion for such a nice venue. Other than this, I have nothing but good things to share about this venue. The staff were friendly, helpful and guest felt at home....despite the AC issue. If you are looking for a place that feels inviting, relaxed and a bit like home for your next engagement, I would suggest this place as a "potential" option....just make sure it is not in the dead heat of the summer.

The wedding wasn't big; there were about 60 guests + a wedding party of 10 or so. I felt there was sufficient capacity for this sized wedding, but anything bigger and the place would have felt claustrophobic. The manor is very charming and obviously historic, with creaky floors. The weather was favorable that day for an outdoor wedding in the garden behind the house. Since the manor is made up of a couple smaller rooms and then 1 large dining room, I imagine the wedding would have been moved to the dining room if it had rained. I believe the bride and groom used the in-house catering, including hors d'œuvres passed around for about an hour between the wedding ceremony and dinner. My favorite hors d'œuvres were the mini grilled cheese sandwiches served with cups of tomato soup. They also passed around sweet potato pancakes, chicken skewers, and shrimp skewers. The sweet potato pancakes were really sweet--more of a dessert than the others. When they opened the dining room for dinner, each table was set up with a starter salad and a bread basket. The dinner consisted of 3 stations: one with grilled salmon served with rice and grilled vegetables, one with gourmet pasta bar, and one with short ribs. The guests were directed to the buffet/stations on a table-by-table basis. The pasta bar in particular got backed up since it was made-to-order, so I wound up getting the ribs and salmon and then going back to the pasta bar once it cleared up. My favorite was the salmon, since it was filling without being too heavy, but I did enjoy the pasta bar, which had a good selection of vegetable toppings. The manor was well-maintained, and the unisex bathrooms were clean and well-supplied. However, there were only 2 of them, so there was inevitably a constant line in the hour or so following dinner. The bride and groom had informed us there were 30 parking spaces at the manor as well as plenty of free street parking nearby. Since the manor is located in a largely residential area, the street parking was pretty easy. Overall, from a guest's point-of-view, this was a really lovely place to hold a relatively simple small-to-medium-sized wedding.

We were so fortunate to attend the wedding of my nephew at The Cloisters…read more As you drive up the long driveway, you feel transported to a different time and place. At the top of the hill, you are greeted by a medieval castle. The Cloisters sits on 60 secluded acres. You will be amazed by the beauty of this castle with its delicately carved wood, exquisitely detailed stained glass, and ornately designed wrought iron. It was the home of Sumner and Dudrea Parker. They designed the castle to highlight their extensive collection of medieval artwork and artifacts. It was built in 1929 and took 3 years to complete. It was truly a lovely setting for the wedding. The wedding was held outside in an enclosed courtyard. After the ceremony, we all went back into the castle where several rooms were set for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. They then took down all the chairs and reset the courtyard for a sit down dinner. Everything was just perfect. What a lovely way for the new bride and groom to start their new life journey together!

The downside of this is that the temperature control isn't always ideal. We got lucky with the weather during our event, but the days leading up to it were very cold inside and I can imagine temp issues if it were hot outside too. The place is huge but very compartmentalized so it was great for an event with ~70-80 people. Would not recommend as a place for kiddos as there are a lot of steep stairs and delicate features. The staff seemed nice but they are very strict about timing - if you paid for an hour, you must leave right at the end of that hour! Our friends who rented the space seemed happy with the service, though.

Brock and Kori chose a Sunday brunch. The food was so delicious - sweet bites of pancakes and waffles, hickory bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes, spicy shrimp, and grits, along with salmon, chicken, fresh vegetables, and the omelet station. The staff was very attentive, professional, and kind. I loved that their uniforms were so clean and formal. Often the staff at many of the hotels and restaurants have very worn white shirts and dingy sleeves. Not the Grey Rock mansion staff! It was like Sunday Best!!! It was really a charming afternoon of tea, coffee, and bottomless Champagne, Bellini cocktails, scrumptious deserts/food, and lots of dancing in the ballroom. A NIGHTMARE for What Should've Been a Joyous Occassion…read more I hosted my 30th birthday brunch at The Belvedere, the overall experience was deeply disappointing and frustrating. The food was served cold I, the guest of honor, received my meal last. The service staff was disorganized and unprofessional: drinks were served in glasses with visible mold, a guest was spilled on with syrup, place cards were ignored. (Which I had to MAKE MYSELF to add) After submitting a detailed formal complaint, their response was both disappointing and dismissive. They blamed the cold food and disorganized service on my late arrival -- which, while true, does not excuse the breakdown in execution. The original schedule was for starters to be served at 12:45 and entrées at 1:10. Due to my delay, starters were served at 1:20 -- only 35 minutes off -- yet entrées didn't arrive until 2:30, nearly an hour later. Even with the slight delay in the start, the kitchen had ample time to follow the adjusted timeline. Their excuse was that the food was ready at 12:45 -- but if that's the case, why was it not served until nearly two hours later, after we'd already finished starters by 1:45? Rather than take any accountability for the cold meals, lack of coordination, and overall poor service, they deflected blame and offered no refund, no accommodation, and no solutions. At first they offered to sit down with us & the team to discuss further. But once we added we wanted to bring statements from guest to eliminate the "he said, she said"at the advice of an attorney, they stopped communicating with us entirely. After we pleaded with them that we were not seeking council or legal action they still never responded. The lack of professionalism and unwillingness to make things right only deepened the disappointment. This was supposed to be a joyful milestone event, and instead it became a source of stress and embarrassment. I do not recommend The Belvedere for any event unless you want terrible service, communication, and professionalism. If you stayed this far the venue was beautiful. But at what cost? Not the amount of money, time & effort put into this day to just be silenced and not considered at all.

I agree that the outside of the banquet hall is a bit misleading, but the inside is very nicely…read moredecorated which cuts down on the time for set-up of a party. The small kitchen in the back also helps when bringing in food and Kelly (owner) will assist with food set-up and will also provide sterno cups for a small fee. Kelly was also very accommodating for the use of our music and other audio visual equipment. The hall is very spacious and allows enough room for dancing or games or other activities in the middle of the hall between the tables. We also appreciated the use of a large cooler for ice and separate table for soft drinks. Set up was pretty close to what I would have done in my own home, but with much easier clean-up. She also had access to a gentleman to assist with clean-up and a bartender. We took advantage of the help from both and it made serving and shut-down that much easier. All in all, our guests enjoyed themselves immensely and the team that planned the party was able to get all that they needed to make my niece very happy with her surprise birthday party.
