Where to start? Let's kick off with the positives. Check-in was smooth (though in tight quarters). Our room was clean and included a refrigerator- always a plus. The bed was comfortable and the TV was fine. Bay's golf carting pricing was very fair, especially since a daily rental for lodgers allows one to keep the cart until the next morning. The room rate included a continental breakfast of muffins, bagels, cereal, coffee and juice. (The OJ was very good). The location is close to both the main town area and The Goat, Butterfly conservatory and adjacent attractions. On the downside....our room was very tight. I almost had to turn sideways to move between the bed and dresser. The bathroom was sub-Motel 6 level - very small with the sink outside near the bed. For our taste, the sink placement was less than ideal. The tub has a couple of tricky features but it works fine once you figure them out. The noise level coming from the hallway, stairwell and nearby rooms was beyond annoying. The walls provide no sound-guard and people running down the halls were jarring in vibration and sound. Getting to sleep one of the nights would have required a significant ambien intake. On final analysis weighing the pros and cons, we would not stay here again on a future visit. We would like to like this place but the cons were just too significant to overcome for us to enjoy the stay we desire. One thing I'll add though consider it here-say. If you have a car, be sure to check the parking arrangements. One couple told us they were charged though when they spoke to the manager he said there was no charge. read more

I stayed at this hotel a few days ago, it was the nastiest hotel i have ever stayed at. I walked into the room and i immediately smelt the horrid smell. I have never been to a nastier hotel in my life. There were dispensers for the soap, body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. My sheet had a giant brown stain on the bottom of it like they were trying to hide the stain. The carpet was dirty along with the hard floor. there was dirt on the bathroom floor. The fridge also was gross. The so called "breakfast" was packaged food like, muffins, granola bars bagels, cereal, and yogurt. This hotel is definitely not worth the price and i would not recommend staying at it. read more

Deserves zero stars!! Absolutely awful. Do not stay here. People yelling and slamming things until 3:30am. Police were out. Staff has zero control over the guests. Management refused to give us our money back when we told them we were leaving for unused nights. This place is a total nightmare. Recently stayed here on a short vacation to the area. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Even the rooms that have been remodeled awful. Stayed in one and it had black mold growing in the bathroom. The hotel boasts a pool side bar but when I was there no bar tenders were available. Memorial Day Weekend on Lake Erie was declared a State of Emergency with flooding and waves of 12 feet so needless to say, the Ferries going to this Hotel and Put In Bay itself were not operable, so No way to get to my 2 night reservation. People were not able to come back from the resort either. My charge was over 600$ per night and Bay Lodging refused to refund the charges. Very poor concern for the guest. When credit card company looked into this, they were told I didn't cancel the reservation. Bay should have notified me and other guest that there was an issue getting to the Island. Used to be our favorite spot. For what the rooms lacked the staff made up for. Jackie is great, but the owners are horrible. My friends room flooded the first night we were there. We returned after a late evening of fun to the room leaking from the window. Luckily they could move to our room as the hotel was sold out. The room was inhabitable. The second night when the room still was not any where near inhabitable they offered to move our friends to another hotel on the island. They declined since it was 8pm and they wanted to be near us. Plus by the time they would have packed up and moved it would have been right in the middle of another severe thunderstorm. Day 3 they were able to move them to a new room at the hotel. At first the hotel refused to refund anything. They said how do we know you didn't sleep in it the first night and they said since they had offered them another room the second night at another property they do not need to refund that night either. After several conversations they finally agreed to credit the first night only. WHAT??? DO NOT STAY at this hotel. They will screw you if they can. read more

If there was a way to give a negative star, I would. We came back from downtown Put in Bay and our room was infested with Mayflies. I understand that it is Mayfly season and we are on the water. We also lived on the water previously so, we understand the circumstances how they take over. But never did we have a problem with them getting into our home. So, there is no excuse for coming back to literally hundreds of them in our room!! The night manager was helpful and apologetic... helped us clean, vaccuum and spray the room with some Off that I had onhand. (The hotel was booked so, there was no room available to move us to.) He stuffed a towel in the crack under the window and had us stuff a towel under the door when he left out to help prevent them from getting in as we slept. And he was very understanding. But all others that we have contacted since have been dismissive and blamed us for the issue... first accusing us of leaving a window open (NOT), then for having a light on in a room that they admit had problems with this before. Apparently, even if we stayed in the room all night, we should know not to leave a light on because the mayflies would get in under the door because we were close to the back door off the hallway (room 201). So, apparently, we would have had to sit in the dark (or reduce the amount of light, as Jackie said... even though we had the smallest light on, because the lamp wasn't working). If you know this to be an issue, why would you not look for a way to rectify the situation before renting the room out? We have yet to receive a call back from the owner, as promised multiple times over the past week. And the nastiness and accusatory tone of the managers... especially Jackie... and their insistence that it is our fault is amazing!! No compensation. Not even an apology from anyone but the night manager!! Again, even after Jackie admitted that this was a known problem with this room. It was her who admitted that they weren't coming from crack under the window but, from under the door because of the proximity to the hallway exit door!! But, again, it is our fault!!! If it was worth the money to sue them, I would!! Just for the inconvenience, their rudeness and the general "screw you" attitude!!! Undoubtedly the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel in my entire life!!! Wish my husband had taken some wide angle shots to get the full effect. read more

Definitely not worth the $ to stay at this place. The furniture is broken down and the mattresses need to be replaced. The room we had was filthy. The carpets resulted in black socks and the bathroom has mold on the floors. My son slept on the pull out couch and he now has red hot bites on him. They only supplied one roll of toilet paper for 4 adults, for 4 days and 3 nights. When I asked for more, I received 1 roll with attitude. The hot tub water is gross and dirty. The A/Cs do not work in the bedrooms properly. The handle on the bathroom door was not even attached, talk about no privacy! There is dog feces in the flower beds that doesn't get picked up. It would be nice if they had some basic kitchen supplies besides chipped dishes, too. read more

Under new ownership the resort is great. Easy check in. Staff is so helpful. Pool with bar is very convenient. The rooms are great - not your typical hotel accommodations - much more like a condo. Perfect location - quiet in this area but easy access (we walked everywhere) to downtown. We will definitely stay here again. read more

I love that when you look this place up on Google that it suddenly becomes a resort which it isn't. Think motel and you won't be disappointed. Our room had a kitchenette with a dining table, a full size fridge and a decent size flat-screen. It was a two bedroom with queen beds and a fold out couch in the common area. Additionally there was a back patio common area with a picnic table for neighboring rooms to share and a pool area with an indoor/outdoor pool complete with a Buckeye themed bar. Neighbors were friendly, the staff was cool to us and downtown is a close walk! Be prepared to spend about $100 per person per night you're here. Rooms were mostly clean as long as you're not sleeping on the carpet and it was a good time. read more

We Reserved a room for 4/3 on 3/18. Called on 3/31 to cancel due to Ice in the bay and an inability to get to the Island via Ferry. Was told we could NOT cancel the reservation due to their policy of no cancellations within 15 days. Um...we made this reservation THIRTEEN DAYS AGO!!!!! Because there's other ways to get to the Island the manager would NOT LET US CANCEL!!! Sure we can get to the island via propeller put-put plane, if you want to spend $100 per person round trip! I DON'T THINK SO! My husband does NOT FLY! She would credit us the deposit of $50 towards a stay at another time during the 2014 season. Well, if THIS is how they treat people, I DON'T think I want to stay there and I think we'll be calling our credit card company to put an Unauthorized Charge to Bay Lodging Resort! This is just a bad business practice given the fact that Lake Erie DID indeed freeze this winter. The weather is going to be bad so I highly doubt they're booked to capacity in the first place. We were giving them FOUR DAYS NOTICE!!! Certainly NOT going to pay $200 just to GET to the Island! I'm not Rockefeller!! UPDATE--4/13/14 We booked a stay for 4/12/14. My husband called on Monday 4/7. They told him to respond to the email. He did. Room booked for 4/12/13. No further communication from Bay Lodging Resort. We arrive there yesterday at around 1:30pm. We are told that the Resort is closed & our reservation has been changed to the Put in Bay Resort!!!!! NO ONE CALLED US TO TELL US THIS! So, we had to walk the 4 blocks with all of our luggage to the Put in Bay Resort, which doesn't have an Indoor pool. the ONLY reason we brought our 10 year old son was because this place has an Indoor Pool, which come to find out isn't even OPEN until May 1st!!! They NEVER offered to get us a ride BACK DOWN to the new resort and as I said NO ONE EVER CALLED US FROM BAY LODGING to tell us THEY switched our reservation!! I WILL NOT STAY HERE AGAIN IF I EVEN GO BACK TO PUT IN BAY! I wish I could rate this place 0 stars because that's what it deserves!!!!! read more

We had four people in our group. Our room was clean, spacious, and comfortable. We had a full kitchen, 2 bedrooms, and a pull out couch. Check in was easy, and the girl at the front desk was very friendly. We got there around 1:00, and we were able to get right into our room. The pool was perfect for what we wanted, and we were the only ones out there for the two hours we used it. I liked the location because it was out of the main drag, but with a golf cart easy to access everything we wanted. We all would stay here again. I am surprised by the negative reviews. I rented one of the most expensive rooms you could get. I had 5 kids with me over the weekend. the first room smelled like cat pee. The second room was almost as gross as the first. The kids didn't want to walk around barefoot or use the shower. they have well water that comes out brown. I wasted $500+ on my second night and didn't even use it. we cut the weekend short, took the ferry back to port clinton and stayed at a holiday in for a clean room, breakfast and shower. Do not stay at Bay Lodging Resort! The customer service was horrible when I tried calling them about accidentally booking with them. I immediately canceled my room when I realized I booked the wrong place and they are charging my credit card over $800.00 when I canceled within minutes of booking. They do not work with you at all. I called numerous times and no one could help me. They act like they can't get business. My trip is not until June so they have PLENTY of time to fill the rooms I booked by mistake. This hotel was unclean and unprofessional. THE ROOM: Upon entering the room, it smelled as if the door hadn't been opened in months. The bathroom smelled of stale smoke and the room smelled stuffy and closed in. We opened the dirty windows just to let some fresh air in and get some of the old air out. Went to turn on the WiFi, it DOES NOT work in the second building. The password kept saying incorrect but if you walk into the building where the clerk is, the password works great. We were placed into a 2 queen room. One bed felt like it had sand in the sheets, the other bed felt like I was sleeping in dirty sheets and the mattress actually had divots where bodies had slept in the past, it did not allow for a pleasant sleeping experience. THE SERVICE: Terrible. I repeat, it was TERRIBLE. My husband and I mistakenly made reservations and paid for 1/2 the stay for a Monday night weeks before our stay (for our anniversary) thinking we made them for a Tuesday night. We received an email reminding us of our stay the Sunday before we were going to stay and it said Monday night. So we called to see if we could switch the day and they informed us they could not move the date, that they don't do that. So we lost $101 and made reservations for Tuesday which cost us another $180. Upon arrival we had 2 reservations because they DID move the first reservations but still had us pay for the 2nd reservation. We were shocked. The clerk called the manager Amber (who refused to speak with me but was adamant on speaking to my husband) and Amber then argued with us and accused us of making the 1st reservations the night before. It was a disaster. So we paid $280 to stay 1 night in this hotel and then they wouldn't even put us in a room with WiFi or a single bed (again, it was our anniversary). The management is terrible. There are so many wonderful places we saw on the island luke the Islander or Edgewater resort where it looks as though people are enjoying their stay and the bartenders are MUCH friendlier than the woman who was bartending/clerk/cooking at Bay Lodging. read more

Worst manager ever on checking in I didn't have my old credit card I ordered the room on a website. She treated me like a criminal. It took an hour to check in after getting my credit card company on the phone. I paid for breakfast for both days but only got one crappie one. My bed was dirty from the previous person with puke on the pillow! Great for college kids but not me. She deserves to be fired or sent home to where she came from I hate to say. read more

It is quiet & clean. The "indoor" jacuzzi isn't really ever meant to be working except during weather that permits the outdoor pool to be in use....the entire area around it is used to store the outdoor pool chairs when the outdoor pool is closed. It reminded me of a clean dorm room or very nice hostel. No closet. For $150 per night....I just kind of expected more. This really isn't a resort at all, just a clean motel. read more

Both miller ferry and jet express were closed due to bad weather, so we could not physically get to the hotel to check in and they would not let us exchange for a different weekend. When we got to our room the tv was broken, the room was 90° and the air wouldn't cool the room, even after being set on 60° for three hours we were still sweating in the room. There was no shower head in the shower either. When we tried to contact the office they had closed early and wouldn't answer the emergency line. We were driven out by the heat and had to go to a different hotel. Half an hour after we got settled in the née hotel we got called by the front desk person saying that there was nothing wrong with our room and we would not be getting any refund. We went back to prove the room was faulty only to find out the staff had repaired the broken tv only to tell us it was never broken. The room did eventually cool down but it took 5 hours and the staff said that meant it worked fine. And when we pointed out the broken shower we were told they didn't know why it was like that but if we agreed to come back to stay they would try to fix it. They took our keys away once we said we had another hotel (we hadn't stayed in the room more than 4 hours) and informed us we would not be getting a refund. After threatening to get our bank involved they agreed to give us back half of our money. Then when we got home we realized they charged us for a second golf cart without our knowing and when we brought it to our attention they told us it wasn't their problem and are refusing to make it right! Extremely dirty... staff is very rude and unprofessional. We had 10 rooms reserved for a family event between the two resorts. DO NOT Bring your family here or to the sister resort Bay Lodging Resort. We called the hotel asking about the TravelZoo deal, they advised us to book directly instead of booking from TravelZoo... Big MISTAKE. Upon arrival we were given our golf carts per room, after an hour of use one golf cart was revoked from the staff and treated us as if we had stolen it. The manager was on the property and dealing with the matter personally, yet she refused to give us her full name but goes by AJ. Her high pitched voices and her improper behavior, not only shocked my family but also other guests at the front lobby. She made us feel as if we were subjects in a robbery. The top manager who manages both restored stepped in and refused to refund our rooms regardless of the violent behavior we had all just incurred. These two sister resorts are NOT Family friendly and do NOT care about the safety of their guests. At that point we had no choice but to check into our rooms.... black markings on the walls. Sheets with dark red/drown stains, no tissue in ANY of the rooms... the list goes on. read more

We made reservations about a month out for a weekend after the Forth of July,Paid half down. Monday the 2nd we both ended up in the Emergency room and sent them proof by e-mail,Called them on the 4th and let them know the circumstances,Still not sure if we were going to feel good enough to make the trip, By Friday we were still both very sick,called them back to let them know we couldn't make it, They then advised us we still had to pay in full and I'm sure they still rented the room out again,I know they have polices in writing but there should be some type of limitations...I also asked them if there had been a death in the family, would we still have to pay for the room, The answer was still yes,We have stayed there twice before,very nice rooms but just make sure that you can absolutely make it when you make a reservation or you will be like us and lose over 700.00 if a family emergency would arise. The staff is horrible. There where 2 groups of us. Checked in at 4:30. One of the rooms wasn't even cleaned yet. Employees where busy on their phones and must have forgotten about it. After the first night, when we left, we put the sign on the door to make up the room ASAP. Came back at 8 PM, guess what? The room was not cleaned. Staff was still on site or it wouldn't have been taken care of. The other issue is that when we arrived their was also the smell of weed. A little of it I could understand, but after two straight days of this, and a smokey hallway,I went to the front desk. The "girl" said that there was not much she could do for it, but she would let security know. Well, that's interesting because there was no security. I told her I was going to call the police. I stayed at this place 2 years ago when the suites were freshly remodeled. Great experience the first year. Last year our suite was filthy dirty, a used condom was found underneath the couch cushions (we were going to pull the sofa bed out to use), somebodys leftover pizza was in the refrigerator, and there was a blood stain on the bed comforter. This is pib after all and the above issues kind of come with the territory. However when we called the front desk, they were quite annoyed that I called to inform them of the conditions in the room! They told me if I wanted a clean comforter I had to come down to the office to get it. The bio hazard in the couch wasn't even addressed. The guy at the front desk told me to just throw it away! Wow this place has gone down hill. I wish I could give this resort a negative rating because it's extremely overpriced and low quality. The room is run down, the windows don't shut properly, the dish towels were stained, the dishes were leaky, and the customer service is the worst I've ever experienced. When we arrived, the manager - Jerome - couldn't log into the computer system to find our reservation. Our group stood in the lobby for half an hour waiting for him to make phone calls and try to get the password to get back into the system. He apologized multiple times but behaved unprofessionally and didn't offer to make our experience better. We paid much more than expected based on the rates on their website, and never got a confirmation on our reservation. In the past, our group stayed in the exact same suite, paid half the price, and got excellent service when the TV didn't work. This time, none of us, or guests in the next suite over, could get access to the WiFi. We told the office three times that it didn't work before they decided to take us seriously and do anything to fix it. Jerome told us that all he could do is allow us to use the conference room WiFi in the main building. This was a disruption on our time and it would have been less frustrating had Jerome offered us some kind of discount. We paid upwards of $1,000 a night for a suite for pretty much a bathroom and bed to sleep in. Good thing there's enough wine on the island to keep us from having a bad vacation. With that kind of service, I will not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Ok, so we had a Groupon. Our expectations were low. We are women of a certain age who do need a decent place and a good nights sleep. We are pleasantly surprised by this place! Our room was VERY clean, the staff was friendly, helpful and conscientious. We came on a weekday, so no wild party here, but fun people at the bar and a nice atmosphere. Horrible experience, have reported to the BBB for the way we were treated. The staff is rude and will not resolve your complaint. I was literally screamed at by the manager while on speaker as my husband and I looked at my phone in horror. I asked the general manager several times to stop yelling but he would not stop so I had to hang up the phone. When asked if we could get a refund on the "Jet Express" program $100 deposit we had left since we would DEFINITELY not be staying, he said "That's not going to happen." Well, this will happen. I will tell everyone I know about my experience and I hope I have helped you all here avoid having a ruined vacation like we did over someone who can't keep his temper under control. PS: those free golf carts they promise you in the package? Yeah, they told us they didn't have one and we'd have to wait hours.
