The quoting process was incredibly smooth and it was extremely pleasant to work with them. I had 2 doors installed. I had quoted doors with 5 vendors. Bay King was not the cheapest nor the most expensive, but their level of customer service made it the best value. In the end, their commitment to their customers is well worth the price they quoted. They went the extra mile to help patch up some parts of the wall near the doors. Additionally they also tighten up some parts of the door sweep so for best insulation. The work was prompt and I felt happy that they followed up afterwards. Unfortunately my hardware didn't come in time and when I tried installing it after it didn't quite fit. RESPONSE TO LINDY'S POST: I was never rude. That is a fact, and Lindy knows it. She ended the relationship after I requested revisions to a contract that contained clear gaps and errors. Her stated reason was that they were "too busy." I believe the real reason is that they did not like being questioned--especially about the contract. I kept my review focused on the process. I did not insult Lindy or Mark. Their response called me a "real jerk," claimed I was rude to a woman, and attacked my character. They still have not addressed the substantive issues I raised. I did not give legal advice. I cited California Business and Professions Code §7159.5(a)(3), stated I was not making a legal determination, and encouraged customers to review the statute themselves. Prospective customers can read both sides and decide. When making a significant home-improvement investment, carefully review the contract, payment terms, scope, product details, and installation requirements. I was simply a homeowner doing due diligence. Mark oversees and actively participates in the installation and they go to great lengths to keep clean the area and make sure nothing surrounding is damaged. I ordered a lifetime warranty special order 6 foot Simonton made in california French frame sliding patio door. Simonton is higher rated than Millguard with better materials and warranty. After receiving 5-6 quotes Bay King was not the lowest (but very close) and Mark seemed the most confident and experienced and just an overall good guy. I'd say they are really about 4.5 stars - really good service on site and I'd use them again. My install was not cookie cutter so so I could nitpick some things but they handled some tough work and provided me good added value! I had a door and a 2nd story window put in. The door install created an exterior hole (not by accident) that really needed stucco with all the rain we were getting. The guys did the stucco - was it perfect? Not quite, but it certainly got the job done and I think with a bit of paint and such, nobody will readily notice, so that was great! The actual door and window install came out really well and I am pleased. They are weather tight and make a great difference in the room/ house. The materials they found for us matched our budget and we're of good quality! Any unpainted wood installed stayed unpainted, but I took care of the door due to rain forecast and will get the bits of window trim in a week. They recommended a painter but our schedules didn't mesh well. One thing I was very pleasantly surprised with was the quality of their referrals for things like paint and electric. I used the electrician they recommended and they were great guys who didn't a nice job for a competitive price at a time that was excellent for me. Shout out to Mario Castillo! The time from deposit to install was a bit long - several months - but some of that was undoubtedly due to a custom order, Xmas, and weather. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ They guys working on site we're very good about clean up and respectful to me but they did drop some cuss words to each other while working - if you have sensitive ears, be aware. The guys in my case were really pretty accommodating about tweaks I suggested to the install like making holes for the electrical install - they work with MC a lot so they know what each other does and that helps with the work. INCOMPETENCE! BULLYING! INSULTS! ... is what one can expect from doing business with The Bay King, and especially dealing with owner Mark Bente! Let me first assure you that this is not a "hate posting" of some sort, rather a factual listing of events comprising an overall horrible experience with Mark and Lindy Bente of the The Bay King. Here are the facts: My wife and I were planning to upgrade/replace our widows, and interviewed a few companies for the job. Mark Bente of the Bay King came not only 30 min late to the in-home assessment, but also smelling of alcohol (that should have been my first clue). Nevertheless, overall he made somewhat a decent impression on me, and their pricing seemed fair. Thus I gave them the job, also thinking that all their 5 star ratings here on Yelp should mean something... Mark took measurements of the top trapezoid custom windows and his wife Lindy ordered them after we made a 50% downpayment for Simonton.com windows, which - based on my research - seemed like a good brand. They told us it would take about 10 weeks to have them delivered and installed. It's almost 16 weeks later now, and had we not pushed for some answers, we would have been in the dark (no pun intended) about getting our windows at all. (Professional and timely communication seems to be a mystery to Lindy Bente - you can also read about that in many other comments here on Yelp). Eventually "installation day" has arrived! My wife and I were very excited and so it began. What happened next was nothing less than a NIGHTMARE! INCOMPETENT: Turns out Mark Bente has mis-measured the top windows, and despite the warning of his very capable employee David (he's the best in the team), Mark - without my consent - broke out and destroyed our old windows, only to realize then he had messed up big time, hence couldn't install the new windows because of his wrong measurements. To cover up his rookie mistake (keep in mind he claims to be in business for over 30 years according to his SMS to me) he just put wood boards over our windows and main source of daylight in our living room. Then he left us hanging, having to live 3 WEEKS WITHOUT SUNLIGHT!!! Lindy Bente then hustled to order new windows somewhere from a local glass wholesale, but never disclosed the source, manufacturer and quality of this new glass. (Remember, we've paid for Simonton Windows, and now we don't even know, if we're even getting anything close to this quality). BULLYING: When Mark Bente came back to install those new windows - I was gone at the time - my wife reported back to me that she was so shocked how rude and bullying he was behaving towards her, not even wanting to answer simple questions. As a husband, I was really concerned about that as you can imagine. During this second procedure - under Mark's supervision - our wall below aforementioned top windows also got messed up (see uploaded photo) hence, they had to come back to finish the job. Luckily this time it was without Mark Bente, and their employee David really made sure that everything, which went wrong under Mark's supervision, was now corrected. (Thank you, David!) After finishing up, David was told by his employer to get the final payment (check) from me, but I had to withhold it, since - after all these bad experiences with the Bente's - I really wanted to make sure that we will still get the life time warranty documentation for all windows. INSULTS: This must have caused Mark Bente to lose his control of his inherent anger and frustration, and he replies to me - after a friendly consolidating SMS on my part - ranting about all the thins he's done and calling me an "arrogant asshole" - pls see uploaded screenshot of that. Now, I've waited about a week before I made the time to write and post this. It is not an impulse driven posting, but I feel the severity of professional misconduct of Mark and Lindy Bente of The Bay King needs to be made public, so that at least you, a potential new customers has the opportunity to know more about this company, their owners, and what to expect. If there was a way to give Bay King Windows MORE than 5 Stars, I would. The team of Mark and Lindy were splendid to work with from opening conversation to and through completion of the job. They're not high pressure hustling salespeople looking to rush you to make a decision or continually try and upsell you on anything. They are straight forward. It started with a simple message that was followed up by a phone call discussion, then setting up an in-home appointment for measurements and then a presentation of what our options are based on us telling them our budgets, timeline and goals. This was an easy stress-free process. No confusion, nor discomfort. At no point were there any balls dropped nor delays or any points of frustration as a customer. In fact, we enjoyed talking with Lindy about windows and even casual social chatter. Mark is an expert at his craft, he's the owner and also primary installer. We had some odd-sized / shaped windows and things on our "wish-list" that Lindy did above and beyond due-diligence research on her end to try to find the best solutions to get us what we wanted. She even presented options we never know or thought of. She's great at explaining everything as well as understanding problems by providing solutions or options. We had a bay kitchen garden window box, some circular windows as well as other non-traditional shapes/sizes. The pricing was fair and reasonable in my opinion. As a testament to their business integrity, I accidentally overpaid their invoice and Lindy called me immediately to inform me that I paid too much and wanted to know if I wanted to get the payment back to then reissue the right amount or just get a refund check of the difference I overpaid. That honesty and attention to detail is appreciated. The Bay King Windows, stand by their work, the windows come with warranties and their installation is backed by Mark's customer service, including a lot of assurance they'll be here for me if I ever encounter any problems, with most issues resolved at no additional charges (unlike other companies who, once they get your money, they try to find a way to get more money from you). This company is in my HALL OF FAME where I'd put my very own name and reputation to stand behind the to refer them to friends as a great source to consider for window work. There's not a single thing I can think of that could have been better in working with them. Their staff were professional and polite. We communicated with frequency on the status of the job (as some of my windows had to be custom ordered with a longer lead time needed to manufacture). He worked in conjunction with one of my contractors doing other work and the coordinated the project as if it were a beautiful orchestra producing a synchronized concert performance. My contractor loved talking to and working with Mark. They arrived timely. They departed, QC'ing the areas and cleaning up as well. The nearly 60 year old window in my parents dining room was leaking and had gotten hard to open and close. It needed to be replaced. My mother warned me that the windows were odd sized "builders specials" so I might have either a tough time finding the right size or run into a huge expense in replacing it.
