Scenic Vanlife Rentals and Builds

I rented The Zion Sprinter camper van from Scenic Vanlife Rentals in anticipation of buying a…read morecustom van of my own. I looked at the vans available for the dates I wanted and the Zion was just what I was looking for. It was the smaller of the standard sizes of Mercedes vans. That was great because I was slightly apprehensive about driving a larger van. (After driving the Zion, I feel I would be OK with the larger 170 inch wheel base vans.) The rental price was very reasonable considering that the van was essentially my home for three days. The van was well equipped and very comfortable. I enjoyed my three days and showing the van to my friends.

After doing copious amounts of research, my husband and I had Scenic Vans as one of our top…read morecontenders for our future van build. We were able to attend one of their open houses and it became obvious that they do exceptional work. The owners, as well as builders, were all available to speak with and answered a ton of questions. They gave us information on things we didn't even know to ask. We were able to look at and sit in most of the floor plans they offer, really helping us to understand the different options of "furniture" placement. We left the open house feeling confident that we would be making the best choice by going with Scenic Vans. A week later I was able to do a consultation with two of the owners, mocking up different options for van builds. I left that appointment having complete understanding of what we will be paying when we do our build. They are in the process of helping us get the best deal on the van we will do the build in. A conversion van purchase isn't a small purchase. We are in a season of life change, waiting for our retirement date, but can't wait to have new adventures in a van Scenic will build for us. I have no doubt they will do a great job making the perfect van for us. This company has won us over based on craftsmanship and customer service!

With van conversions becoming super high in demand allot of new companies have been popping up and…read moreWCAV was about 4 years old. SportsMobile was my 1st van and it was same price but, lower quality materials and construction. SportsMobile had great customer support, answered calls/emails and felt like they had my back. Calder and Jenn have an super great shop with very talented hard workers and really put together a great high quality custom build for our 2020 Ram Promaster 2500 van but, when it comes to communication it became very frustrating. You can check out the conversion of our van on @vanadventuresCA on Instagram to see how they construct your build. After the build I had to do little over 10 two hour trips each way to the shop for repairs but, knowing they were a new company, some of the mechanical fixes were enhancements for bed rails staying in place while driving and cabinets rattling or not closing well. Quality of the parts is top notch, just fine allot of fine tuning for the road. This should be expected until you drive it a bit, hear repeated noise or disfunction. They added pins to lock the rails into place, example. Had to go back a 2x for floor LED light not working right. Co2 sensor beeping every 2 min. Latches making noises from road bumps, tightened. Lights not coming on - there was a reset button in the system to fix it. LTE booster not working - didnt know about on switch different location. The weak side of the company is customer support - no one to answer calls or take messages. These vans have complex electrical settings and handing someone a manual and expecting them to read them to figure out issues wont work well. When you call, you get a recording saying something like: "Because we prefer to working on the floor more than in the office, leave a message and we will get back to you". (3-5 days later maybe) A great company in any line of business will have a great customer support for simple calls to answer simple questions or do facetime to trouble shoot which he did for the reset button for lights but, I had a issue with my battery not charging fully like 12-50% all of a sudden so, I called to see what I was doing wrong. No AC convertor turned on...no lights on...no fan on...nothing. Looks like it was a setting on the control panel possibly or yellow relay switch or it just started working again...super easy call to take! Last call I did Calder said " lets do a call" , leaving no phone number and never heard back. Even threatened small claims court to add some pressure to hopefully settle out of court but, never heard back still. Did 5 emails expressing this with no replies. Report Card: 2. Quality/workmanship: A++ 3. Communication during build: A (Jenn was great then) 4. Electrical Operation Instruction: B ( Need more detail on electric compartment details) 5. Support communication after Build: F 6. Delivery time: C (July 2020 start - January 2021 pickup) (I was told 2-3 months end up being 6 months) Costs: 1. Van new: $40K 2. Conversion: $45K Just did a check online for their website and not sure if they are still around. I wished I had gone to Yelp first so that I could have asked about these issues. I see everyone is having issues with communication and customer support. Jenn phone number isnt accepting calls now.

A friend contracted with West Coast Adventure Vehicles to get a van customized. She felt it was a…read morelot but then custom work can be expensive. I was concerned West Coast would not have it ready. The beginning was exceptionally slow. One week, the progress report was washing the van and putting plastic between the cab and cargo area. Seriously! That was it; maybe 3 hours of work on the van. Very slow going. Now she's paid 90% of the money which she had to do by the contract and they are no where near 90% finished. I'm worried if this project will ever get finished. Oh right, they were supposed to be finished in April. Now the completion date is July. That's 3 months late on a van they said would take 4 months to complete! This has changed trips we were going to take together. I'm writing this from a hotel in Seattle instead of the beautiful Olympic Peninsula.
