We are so grateful to the AFM community and coaches for nurturing my children's love for fencing…read morebut more importantly, the confidence in themselves, work ethic and practicing good sportsmanship. Julia always encouraged my daughter to compete for the experience of it (and took the time to explain how competition works - life changing guidance). Coach Natasha, Coach Gregory and Coach Adam always provided positive and instructive coaching in a fun learning environment. The kids are always laughing after class. The use of "always" is no exaggeration. Win or lose, ranking or not, the consistency in which the coaches and staff "showed up" for our children over the past 2 years is heart felt. The quality of Olympic and World Champion level coaching is unparalleled. Along with Irina and Igor, they were instrumental in developing our children and teaching old parents a new love. For reference, my daughter started beginner fencing at 7 (casual, once a week) and my son just started out of enthusiasm from watching his older sister. My daughter started intermediate class (2x per week) at 8. They're young and may not stay with the sport forever but the life lessons are priceless and transfer to school, work, sports, everything. We're sorry to leave the club as we're moving out of the area and will join another club at Igor's recommendation:)

This is 10000/10 review. Note-I stold this from their website for your review!!!! "Did you know that fencers have a distinct advantage when it comes to college applications? 1 in 3 high school fencers go on to compete on college fencing 32% of male fencers and 38% of female fencers go on to fence in college. Compare that to football (7.8%) or basketball (5.9% male, 6.3% female). More than 30 top-tier colleges in the U.S. have an NCAA fencing team, and 100 other colleges have teams as well."

I do not recommend this camp for young children, especially 4-year-olds…read more My son attended BrainVyne LEGO Camp at Cubberley Community Center for two days, and our experience was very disappointing and concerning. The classroom is small, poorly ventilated, and uncomfortably hot. The children spend most of the time sitting at tables assembling LEGO independently, with very little guidance or group interaction. This does not feel like a camp environment, especially for younger kids. On the first day, my son (who does not speak English) had no real interaction with other children and spent most of the time sitting alone. He did not use the restroom at all during a full day (9:00 AM-2:30 PM), which already raised concerns about supervision. On the second day, I specifically asked staff to remind him to use the restroom and assist him if needed. I was told they would have another child take him instead of an adult, which is not appropriate for a 4-year-old, especially one who does not speak English. He ended up having a bathroom accident. Staff called me but refused to help him change, even though he had spare clothes in his backpack. When I arrived 30-40 minutes later, my son was sitting outside in wet clothes, crying, with no meaningful support provided. Staff made no real effort to comfort him or help resolve the situation. This was extremely distressing for my child and not an acceptable level of care. Overall concerns: - Lack of supervision for young children - No assistance in basic situations (bathroom, changing) - Inappropriate expectations for a 4-year-old - Minimal engagement or structured activities - Uncomfortable indoor conditions This experience did not meet basic expectations for safety, care, or age-appropriate programming.

It's an expensive camp, so here are the things that could be better. 1. Camp changed locations from Mountain View to Palo Alto the Wednesday before camp started. This needed us to rearrange schedules last minute. However, we understand, some things are out of any business' control. 2. On the first day, it seemed like staffing was thinner than expected. For example, younger kids were going to the restroom in buddy pairs rather than with an adult. That made me uneasy since Cubberley is a public campus, but I appreciated that Rathna looked into it and the situation improved the next day, and staff were accompanying kids. 3. Drop-off felt a bit hectic at times, especially early in the morning before the second teacher arrived.

Right from the start, even the newest fencers suit up in full club-provided gear, which really helps them feel the excitement and focus of real fencing. It's amazing to see how quickly they get into the spirit of the sport. Coach Andre and Coach David are absolutely wonderful. They're not only skilled and passionate about fencing, but they're also genuinely kind and encouraging with the kids. It's clear they love what they do, and that energy is contagious. Since moving up to the intermediate class, I've been so impressed by how much thoughtful feedback my son receives. What stands out the most to me is how he's absorbing and responding to that feedback--it's a level of maturity and openness I've never seen in him before (especially not when it comes from me!). Watching his growth--both in skill and mindset--has been such a joy. We're now looking forward to local competitions together, and I couldn't be prouder to be part of this journey with him. If you're looking for a supportive, energetic, and skill-building environment for your child, I can't recommend this fencing club highly enough!

Professor Tammie and Mr. J instantly made our child feel comfortable and welcomed within the group. We were pleasantly surprised to see our child actively responding to questions and even volunteering during the sessions. One of our child's favorite moments was "Goldilocks and the Three Bears," performed by Professor Tammie. The expressive storytelling, hand gestures, and facial expressions made a lasting impression. Since attending the class, our child has started incorporating techniques such as vocal modulation, gestures, facial expressions, and the speaker's triangle into their own storytelling at home. Our child was also deeply inspired by the stories presented by the other children in the class, which motivated them to choose storytelling as their talent for the school talent show. The instant positive and guided feedback provided by Mr.J during the various practice sessions helped immensely. Professor Tammie's encouragement and feedback, especially coming from such a wonderful storyteller, truly boosted our child's confidence and inspired them to express themselves more freely.
