This is all my lovely's opinion relayed here. Though I did have to wait a long time in there with her. She loved it, she was really happy with the cut and style the hairdresser gave her. That is a pretty big complaint as she loves a moan my lass. Just joking...*Sweating* But yea, the layout was pretty cool and slighty mod-like. The price is way more than I'd ever pay but madam was happy to pay it and give a tip to the 'very nice lady'. All in all a good trip to the stylists. Phew. read more

Bauhaus - Hair Salons Near Me - Cardiff, CRF

This is a lovely salon using equally lovely Aveda products. They moved from their original shopfront on St Mary Street just around the corner onto the quieter Bakers Row, which is a better location. I really like Aveda's weirdly earthy, woody fragrances - and their products are more natural than most used in salons, with up to 95% natural ingredients, according to my stylist. Even the colour is up to 99% naturally derived, so it's less damaging to your hair. The staff seem to be proud to work here, and the salon itself is a relaxing environment in which to spend an hour or so. Some of their stylists specialise in hair for weddings, balls or big nights out - and many have worked as stylists on TV and film productions. They also offer little extras such as free fringe trims between cuts, which is great for regulars. My partner and I made an appointment to come here to both get our haircuts. For the haircut specifically, I would rate this place 5 stars. 2 stars off for the admin part of it. We rang up to book an appointment and they were happy with that. Come the appointment time, and they were obviously overbooked but just didn't want to miss out on another customer. The stylist for my partner was ready, but my stylist was not and was JUST getting started with another client! I understand that these things happen, but to accommodate for that I feel that they should probably account for wiggle room. After thinking about it, my partner and I talked it over and we were prepared to leave until they opened up a slot for me with another stylist at the original arranged time, "6 o clock sharp". So we stayed. But the other stylist was also late because they shoved me into his schedule. Normally, I'm not an asshole about these kinds of things, but it's the false promises that get to me. What's the point of ringing up and scheduling an appointment time when that doesn't even matter anyway? Why promise an on-time start when it's false? I understand they want to keep a customer and it worked. My partner started way before me and I couldn't exactly say "Screw this, we're leaving!" while he was getting his hair washed. Because of this mis-match in time, my partner was finished eons before I was and ended up waiting ages (thank god for smartphones for entertainment). To put it into perspective, they had just finished washing my hair when he was getting his final blowdry. --- However, 5 stars for the actual haircut. The man who worked with me (I can't recall his name) was an absolute master. He was my kind of hairstylist who doesn't really care about the chit-chat and cares more about the work. I had a faint idea of what I wanted, but he helped style my hair into a more specific direction. Best haircut I've ever had and worth every penny. However, I'm hesitant about coming here again because of the entire experience which is why it was 2 stars off for me. Because of my career, I'm extremely busy and lucky to get to sleep at a proper bedtime before I've finished working so I really appreciate it when businesses stick to their appointments. I popped in here on Friday because I was in town, my hair was a mess and I noticed a sign outside saying that they had walk in appointments and it looked like a pretty funky sort out place so I decided to take the plunge. My stylish was great and listened to what I was hoping for and made some suggestions for what would suit my hair type and soon enough she was chopping away. I really liked what she did with it and better still after washing it and doing it myself next day it was still looking good. Price I think was £32 or £35 which is what I usually pay to have my haircut anyway, so its not a cheapy place but they are quality hairdressers. Maybe not quite good enough to keep me from my regular hair stylish but defiantly convenient and a good find. read more

Aveda Bauhaus is a great salon located on main shopping street in Cardiff city centre. I was looking to get my hair done for a night out when I noticed a sign outside advertising a walk in cut for £32.00,I thought that for this price I would get a quick cut and blow dry but I was wrong!!! Whilst my hair was being washed a stylist chatted to me to find out what I wanted done and gave me plenty of ideas I had not contemplated. The stylist gave me a wonderful cut and even took the time to straighten my very long thick hair. When my hair was done I did not feel obligated to buy any of the products,which I normally do in other salons. Although the salon is very swanky the staff are lovely and everybody at the party in the night said how nice my hair looked!! that says it all. read more

My advice ; avoid like the plague!! I had a terrible experience in the Friary salon. I asked for my hair to be coloured and it came out fluro orange. I have long (to the elbow) mousy brown hair. I thought it was very bright in the Salon, but thought it was the Salon lights making it seem brighter than Id expected. When I left the Salon I realised in the light of day how horrendous and FLURO the colour was. I never asked for fluro hair, I asked for blondy copper, like Lilly Cole, the fluro orange totally didnt suit me. At no stage did the hair dresser hint this is what she had in mind. People literally stopped and pointed in the street when I left the salon, it was mortifying. I was very, very upset. Ive never had a problem in any Salon before. I complained. I did NOT want anyone to colour my hair again, as it had already been through enough, and as I had a train to catch at lunch time the next day I didnt have time to go in and have all of it re-done. To cut a long story short, the salon owner Scott was extremely rude and unhelpful. I didnt get a refund, but I learnt a very vaulable lesson. Never ever go to the Bauhaus in Cardiff, the owner doesnt care about clients, and certainly doesnt care about his reputation. He said he watched the CCTV and I said that I was clearly very happy with the colour. What an absolute cheek. Who is he to say if I was happy or not? I can tell him, and did, that I was NOT happy AT ALL. He obviously doesnt listen to his customers. And obviously doesnt care either. I will never go again, and have told all of my friends and family, who saw the photos and were horrified. £127.50 totally wasted. I dyed my own hair again with John Freda off the shelf colour as I didnt have time to mess about in the salon the next morning, and I didnt want to go around looking like I was wearing a clown wig. read more

I've been studying in Cardiff for a few months now and the last time I went to a salon was probably around a year ago. My hair's in a not so optimum state, with dry ends and it always feels so limp and heavy. This is most probably due to the fact that I *attempted* to cut it myself and tried my hand at layering it- first timer's naïvety. So I thought I'd treat myself(hair) to a nice trip to a salon now that I have some money saved up. Being a foreigner, I didn't have a single clue where to go so I turned to Yelp! to give me advice. I had shortlisted some salons I was considering, including Bauhaus, but this afternoon, while wandering round Cardiff's glorious arcades, I stumbled upon Bauhaus and on an impulse, went in and tried my luck. They accepted walk-ins (hooray!) but the salon was busy so there was a 30 min wait- which was perfectly fine, considering there were a lot of cafes and shops around that I could visit while waiting. Plus, it must be a good sign that it was so popular with a lot of friendly regulars! I came back at 3 pm and had to wait for a bit and was greeted by a lovely stylist. Me being the social recluse I am, didn't talk much but she genuinely is so sweet and helpful! I was probably quite an annoying customer, coming in with no clue as to how I wanted my hair to look like and having self-cut, dry-ended hair as well but she helped me figure out what style I wanted and made very helpful suggestions. She was a very nice stylist and treated my hair very gently. All in all, my cut and wash cost £36 (walk-in) which I thought was a bit yikes but perhaps that's not too steep? This was my first salon in Cardiff so I wouldn't know :-) I think there might have been a student discount but I didn't ask (crippling social anxiety help) I thought this salon was great, the place was clean and stylish, the service was amaze, the soundtrack was super dope and the end-result was just fantastic! I love how quick and efficient the place was as well! Might not come back unless they have student discount- hehe As well, she helped me figure out whether or not I'd suit a fringe and dissuaded my fears so thanks! It looks amazing! read more

I recently had a haircut in their bakers row salon by Scott (the short bald man with the beard). This was my first and last time using this salon. From Scott's attitude to the haircut everything was sub par. His condisending tone used when talking to me was really not appreciated nor was needed. I really need more stars to express just how awesome these guys are!!! I've always had a morbid fear of hairdressers, and can't remember the last time I've come out of one disappointed. Not with Bauhaus!! They really listen and spend time working out how you want your style. I did what a lot of hairdressers dread and took a pic of how I wanted my hair to look, and they (Steph) got it absolutely spot on!!! Great products, with no hard sell, very friendly staff who made me feel welcome and also good aftercare (free fringe trims between cuts etc). So many people have complimented me on my hair, and everytime I walk past a mirror/window I'm beaming!!! Most horrible experience at a hairdresser salon ever! The owner of the salon (Scott) had not service minded at all when I spoke to him in the end. It looked like he didn't care at all. They cut my hair SHORT even tho I told them I'm growing out my hair and wanted only to cut the split ends. Now I have to wait years to have the same length! Not only they cut my hair short, the haircut itself does look like I've taken kitchen scissors and cut it myself. read more

IF YOU LOVE YOUR HAIR GO ELSEWHERE I had a fantastic cut at Bauhaus two years ago and returned for a cut today. What a different experience. We agreeing length of the cut required. I stated I wanted the minimum cut off to keep the length. I spoke with Tom and agreed a compromise on cutting 2 inches off during the consultation with the training stylist under Tom's supervision and his instruction. My hair was just below my waist. I specifically said I'd waited years to grow my hair past my bra strap and down to my waist. I said no more than 2 inches. The stylist has cut nearly 5 inches off my hair! My hair is now above my bra strap. I'm absolutely devastated. I was very firm and clear throughout the consultation that I did not want the stylist to cut off as much as Tom recommended. We agreed a compromise. The stylist marked on my back the agreed length and I saw this in the mirror. My hair has been cut far higher up my back than we agreed, despite being very clear about what I wanted. The attitude of Tom that my hair looks better makes no difference to me. To not feel listened to at a Hairdresser is unprofessional. It shows a lack of respect to the client's wishes. Hair is an intrinsic aspect of a person's identity. It takes YEARS to grow. Cutting hair considerably shorter than agreed is not something that is quickly remedied, or something the stylist has to endure, it's the client left with the frustration of having to grow it back. I'm so disappointed with today's appointment. I made my feelings perfectly clear to the stylist. I passed comment that I wanted my hair to be as long as the stylist with the beautiful auburn hair. I said I'd been growing my hair for years to achieve the length, only for your stylist to cut 5 inches off! I'm devastated and angry that I feel I haven't been listened to, and that my wishes have been disregarded. Tom laughed when I told him I was scared of the hairdresser, for fear of cutting too much off. He promised me they wouldn't cut more than 2 inches off. He asked me when I'd last had it cut and I said it was 2 years ago at Bauhaus so I thought I'd come back after a good experience and I bought my niece with me for a haircut as she's just had a baby! WHAT A MISTAKE! Now I'm scalped. It's going to take me years to regrow what's been cut off today. read more

Had a blow-dry here in preparation for a ball I was going to. Clearly the salon was completely overbooked and was moved 3 times and was left waiting for one stylist to finish his current job. I asked for a 'bouncy big blow-dry' and the guy doing it clearly had no idea what he was doing. He dried it straight and then tried curling it. He did not put any product in it but just hairspray afterward. The result was horrendous and I swiftly had to attend another salon to have my hair redone. I was also charged £29 which was excessive for a terrible service. I would not recommend this hair salon to anyone. read more

Nice Aveda products, Great cut..lovely staff would recommend. Much better cut than Kamigata in LLandaff and £10.00 cheaper.

After a few bad jobs at the hairdressers, i decided to check out this place as i am a fan of Aveda products..Had a lovely colorist called Katie and a very good stylist called Vicky....They both did a brilliant job..totally did what i asked for. I won't say the place is cheap except it is slightly cheaper if you "walk in". My only gripe is that there is no pampering such as head or hand massages and they don't serve proper drinks either! This came as a small shock as all salons give you good coffee these days. Otherwise, they did a great job! . read more
