My entire family comes to Emerald Isle every year. This was our 7th year coming and every year that we come we always plan a day to go play at Battle works. It is so much fun and we all enjoy it. I definitely recommend anyone visiting the area to go play. ** Our only critique in the last several years is that they have started letting employees join games when you don't have enough people. It wouldn't be a problem if they weren't destroying everyone trying to play to have fun with their family. Otherwise, we thoroughly enjoy it and will still play, hopefully with 0 employees next year. read more

People in the front desk was very nice and was so helpful. The Lazer tag experience was 1 hour long and had different game modes so you don't get board. They separate you so the games are fair. Over all will come back. read more

We came during the afternoon and took my tween for axe throwing. There was nobody playing laser tag, so one of the staff working there took us for a tour. They showed us the laser tag rifles. My kid was hooked and so was I! My one bit of advice is to schedule your laser tag a day in advance if you are playing Friday or Saturday evening. It gets really busy and sometimes many of the sessions are sold out or are near full. The next day I had a charity flight scheduled, but promised my son that we would go when I got back that evening. Throughout the next two days, we would meet a manager, the owner G, and several of the wonderful staff. While we were there, the owner put the next (last) session on special, but I had to get my kid to the ice cream shop before it closed. Honestly, I wish we would've stayed and just dropped by the Food Lion to pick up a half gallon of Breyers. Though we do enjoy AJ ice cream and the Cinema in that center, we really did enjoy this experience a lot more than ice cream. R, D, H, and C were all really wonderful. D answered a few of my questions, and she helped my child since it was his first time! She is also super nice! R answered a lot of my questions and was a really nice guy. H and C showed us around and showed us the weapons. There were a few regulars that helped me as well. Everybody there is really really nice. read more

just spent $210 for our family to play- like we do each summer when we visit. The problem was that the teenagers running the place kept ruining the game by cheating for their friends who are clearly regulars. Pros: - Large, well lit area - They try to make the teams even and make adjustments as needed - Clear rules and instructions - Reasonable price - Ample parking - Score updates - Rock music playing during game - Great workout - Some of the rules and extra benefits seem unfair. For instance, the better you do the easier it gets. Shouldn't that be that other way around or even for everyone? Cons: - Some of the equipment does not work or malfunctions (understandable but it takes away from game play if you need to swap out the equipment) - Bathrooms are dirty and not all of the stalls lock - Warm temperature so be ready to sweat. Bring water to rehydrate afterwards. They also have axe throwing available. Overall, if in the area we would stop by here again! read more

It was fun filled time for us and staff was superb. The younger kids have an advantage but was a good choice for extracurricular activity.

Half the equipment doesn't work and they let employees play who cheat the entire game. Really ruins the fun for everybody management does nothing to fix it. read more

(We did only the axe throwing today) The person at the desk was really nice, explained everything and let us do our thing! He stopped back a few minutes later to see if we had questions. There are suggestions for games, but you can score any way you want. The only reason it wasn't a 5 for me is the targets were cut up in some places where you couldn't see the rings. We had so much fun! (We learned they have a calendar online where you can see if people signed up for laser tag. There were only three in our group so we signed up for a time slot where others are playing.) read more

The concept is entertaining and the price is worth it considering you play several games over the course of one hour. I played here twice and enjoyed the game play with my party, but on both games employees on their day off would be playing in games with us. Of course, they took the game too seriously considering that this is all they do with their lives and ruined the family experience. It was frustrating :( how intense they were about playing and they personally yelled at me for "talking" because apparently you're not allowed to "talk" during the games (which we were not informed about) Of course they couldn't be liable as employees because they were losers spending their DAY OFF bullying customers. If you have a big party or want to enjoy a game without being interrupted by the staff, I would suggest booking a private session. read more

What a fun place!! We went in to go axe throwing last night and we were greeted by the owner who was super nice! He showed us many different techniques on how to throw the axe and we had an amazing time! They have a pretty good beer selection, prices are very reasonable, and the environment was great! THE Best laser tag I have ever experienced without a doubt. Negative reviews must truly be bitter pills with an axe to grind. Weapons are very realistic and as another review said, this is quite a workout and yes, you will leave drenched in sweat. My heart rate was way up and I had a huge adrenaline blast for over an hour. I was wiped out immediately afterward and my legs were so sore the next day from crouching and running. I loved it! You can pay for upgrades and additional weapons (grenades, pistols, etc.) but you don't need to do this to have a great time (we did not but probably will next time to add to the fun). The staff is AWESOME and are very helpful. They cracked down on rule breakers when I was there and made sure the playing field was level and fair. The group of employees working when we were there had a great sense of humor. I had zero complaints. They get a lot of repeat business and there are usually some more experienced players there that are more than happy to help (especially teammates if they want to win). This is NOT for little ones. It's 12 and up for a couple reasons. Guns are a bit heavy and expensive I'm sure. Also, this is very realistic and I'm not sure it would be good for those much younger than 12. Bottom line...this place is awesome! Well worth the cost to play! A repeat trip is all my son asks for on his birthday. Might be a bit difficult since it is over 7 hours drive....but I'm considering it because I loved it as well!!! read more

Third year in a row going here...always a great side trip when staying in Emerald Isle! I would give them five stars, but I find it unreal that during the pandemic I show up with three others ready to play and no other players are wearing masks. Our host told us we didn't need them and they'd be too hot to breath in during game play. While he was correct that they were hot, he was totally incorrect by not requiring everyone to wear them. We play indoors, run all over, are huffing and puffing like crazy, and come out drenched with sweat when done. Talk about heavy breathing ripe to spread this virus more. read more

Would NOT go back. First off, we were told to arrive 15 minutes before our game to learn about the guns and the game (which was at 8pm) and we did exactly that. About half of our players were there and EVERYONE had to wait until all the players arrived. We did not enter the "armory" or learn about the guns/game until after 8pm. My brother (13) and boyfriend (19) were on one team and I (18) was on the other, which we were automatically opposed to since we payed $90 to play together. When we asked to be on the same team, the employee gave us an attitude and told us No. After paying that much money, we were not about to take that. We went to his superior and said the same thing, but this time, they agreed. After the first employee realized they fixed the teams, they approached us and said "I'm sorry for the inconvenience" They had us grab our designated team vests and guns next. Each of our vests was missing clips and ripped, while half of my vest sensors didn't even work. We used the default guns because you had to pay $15+ extra for any other weapon. The guns have a strap that could not be loosened much and were constricting. They're heavy, and to reload you had to press a button, push in the clip, and pull back a trigger type thing. Doesn't sound so bad, however every button of each gun stuck. You basically had to pound in the button and slam the clip hard to get it to work. I'm not the strongest person but i'm also not weak and i had to slam the clip off my thigh every time i needed to reload leaving a big red mark on my leg for the rest of the night. There was only one game arena. The floor was dirty, hard, rough and wet in areas. There were shelves with UPS/USPS boxes stacked everywhere. Most of the players did not follow the few simple rules we were told to follow; don't put the gun over your head and shoot or around a corner. Meaning you had to be looking through or next to the scope. The employees did nothing to stop this. In fact, when i told an employee that half my vest didn't work, my gun was jamming, and players were not following the rules I was told, "Well you have to reload, and well they saw you and shot you first." After each round we had to report to the armory, which took about 5-7 minutes each time. Doesn't sound bad, but it was included in the hour we spent $90 for. Our team won the first couple games but were not given any appraise or recognition. When the other team won, they were given the choice of which base they wanted: and they always took the "better armed and protected" base. The last round we played a longer game of team deathmatch, while the other team chose their base, we were stranded in the open and assaulted by players camping constantly. Players would cover their vest so your shots wouldn't count and once again, the employees did nothing. Players would sprint, roll, and army crawl with no respect for other players. I was run into many times BY MY OWN TEAM. We finished exactly at 9pm. Which means we only got maybe 40 minutes of gameplay. $30 per person per hour and we didn't even get a full hour of gameplay. Battleworks is the worst laser tag experience i've ever had. The only reason i'd set foot in the building would be to use their virtual reality game set, which is a dollar a minute. read more

We loved it! So many things to do and they even sell alcohol! We all went here because of a stormy day and will never regret it.

Every time my coast guard ship pulls into fort Macon more than half of my crew goes here. It is so much fun, you can't get enough. Real life call of duty action. Staff is great. Can't say enough good things about this place. Wear workout clothes when you go because I guarantee you will be covered in sweat when you are done. This is by far the best laser tag I have ever been to ever! All of the workers are fun to be around and the equipment feels real and ergonomic. I see others rate 1 star because of previous management which has recently just changed so that shouldn't be a problem anymore. The second reason I see 1 star is due to the fact that kids under 12 can not play. What I have to say to that is this is a hyper realistic laser tag system. All equipment is external pricy to replace and things such as running are encouraged. I don't see any person under the age of 12 being able to stick to the various rules they have. This is definitely more towards a young adult audience. All and all wonderful night with the boys 5 stars! read more

This place is Awesome!! This is not your typical laser tag. Adults have just as much fun as the kids. The weapons are very realistic and the area is set up with different sections to move through. They also have an Axe throwing section where you can sit back with friends and drink some beer. We will be back soon!!! read more

We went there with my son and a friend, only not to be able to play as you have to be 12 to play. I did not see this on the web page, as this should be the one of the first things that should be on the web page. After reading through it again, it's on there but way in there. This is a family vacation destination and there is not a lot to do with younger kids here and if you want to be successful you need to offer something for younger kids too. Especially since at other laser tag places kids under 12 can play. read more
