    Best Buy

I have always liked Best Buy, and will purchase items there whenever possible in order to keep them…read moregoing. Usually their prices are set to match their competitors, however there was an item that Costco and Sam's Club were offering for less over Christmas. I looked up to see if they would price match those stores, and the website indicated that they would. When I was checking out, the cashier looked at the pricing at both the other stores, and verified it was the same item. He needed a manager to come change the price, and I had to wait at least five minutes for one to come over. The manager told me that what the website doesn't tell you is that in order for them to price match Costco or Sam's, you have to have a membership at Best Buy. I didn't even know they offered one, or why I would even need one. He told me that if I paid $50 for a membership that he would do the price match. I told him that if I did that, the item would cost me more than just buying it at Costco. He just shrugged his shoulders uncaringly. I left, and drove straight to Costco to purchase the item. On the way, I called Best Buy customer service to see if that was indeed the policy. The verified that it was absolutely not the policy, and that I didn't need to buy a membership to match the price. I assume maybe the manager gets spiffed for selling memberships, and lied to me in order to sell one, but all they did was lose a good customer for life. I won't be returning.

Located in a safe part of Overland Park and across from Oak Park Mall, Best Buy is still hanging on…read moreas a staple of "brick and mortar" physical locations. The outside seems normal enough, on par with our memories of a begotten age and heck the employees seem very nice as well. The parking lot also is relatively smooth, devoid of potholes!!! That said be warned I'm still a fan of this place, regardless of some of the stupid business practices enacted by a short sited corporate regime. Walk on in and you get greeted relatively quickly but also a blast of cold or hot air hits you, depending on the season, to make shopping that much easier! I'll admit I'm still somewhat taken back that every time I walk in, some nice employee says hi! Very nice. As with most Best Buys now adays, directly in front of the shopper, you know where the DVDs, Blu rays, 4ks used to be to encourage impulse shopping, lies the multitude of cell phones. Yes, I mentioned the physical media b/c it's a sore spot with me. Please note the inventory of DYI items like wire, connectivity butts, odd length of HDMI cable and things of that nature have been scaled down. I strongly advise checking online if you don't like just browsing like me. Also, a lot of options in terms of computer mice, keyboards and things of that nature aren't as plentiful anymore. I mean, it's better than many other competitors but not what I remember of the golden age of Best Buy in the 2000s. As stated, physical media in terms of movies and music is gone but games are also impacted yet they do carry some titles, especially new or hot items. As far as new consoles, I've never had much luck getting a "hard to get" system as opposed to other places. In those regards, plan ahead. Now they do have a great selection of TVs and surprisingly if you like higher end equipment they carry that too! When I first moved to Kansas in 2000, this was my "home" Best Buy. They've continued to have competitive pricing, a friendly staff and a pretty good stock of most items. I won't sugar coat this because it affects all stores, is they've scaled back on a lot of items like I mentioned. If you're a window shopper, I invite you to come by. However if you need an item and expect it to be in stock, I suggest checking the website first. I've been to a lot of Best Buys and this one continues to be a great store!

I have been coming to Olathe Ford since I bought my car in 2016. I came for regular oil changes and…read moreother services needed. Unfortunately, I will never return to Olathe Ford or any Ford if possible. I have just had the worst experience here regarding my car. I had my car towed here when it died over memorial weekend. The manager of the shop called me next business day to inform me that no one could look at my car until the next week but it sounds like transmission and if that was the case they couldn't even begin to work on it for three months. I called and said I was taking to a different place because they could get my car in and the turn around was 7 business days. When I went to go get my car The manager told me I will have to pay for my diagnostic that he could not give me until the next day. I asked him what he was talking about because he has just told me that no one could look at it until the next week. He said he didn't know someone looked at it and the techs computer crashed so he had no way of contacting him until the tech left for the night. He then told me about how much it would cost and why it will take so long, they are understaffed which is understandable. He then said that Ford would help me pay for my services then in the same breath say they can't help me. He was going back and forth and I was getting frustrated. When he told me how long it would take Ford to fix the transmission I asked if they would give me a loaner car, to which he snapped at me and said, "look around at my lot! Does it look like I have a car to give you?!" Unprofessional. So I pay for the diagnostics that he never gave me a physical copy of and went to get my car towed to a different shop. When I went back to the lot where my car was the back window was all the way down for no apparent reason. Unbelievable. I took my car to the shop where Ford told me they wouldn't be able to fix it (in an attempt to get me to leave my car with Ford). The other business had my car for a total of five days and labor, diagnostics, parts, and a 5 year warranty cost LESS than what Fords minimum would have been. Ford told me my warranty that I paid extra for when I purchased my car was no good by a few miles. I would have left my car with Ford had it not been for the horrible way they treated me and made me feel like I was being scammed. Ford has lost a valuable customer.

I spoke with Curt Ecker (sp?) on Tuesday and he asked me to drop off my car Wednesday morning to verify. He put me in a nice loaner car. He confirmed it was the module. He ordered the module, installed it on Thursday morning and I had my car returned to my Thursday afternoon. Curt was professional, polite and turned my repair around quickly. I'd give him 10 stars. The Porter staff is also excellent. Rich was the Porter on Wednesday who took me to work and picked me up again to get the loaner car. Rich was polite and a good driver. I'd give Rich 10 stars.

In my best Scottish accent I yelled, "Great! That's just great!" I pulled in to O'Reilly's on Marshall drive (just off I-35) . The first guy tests the battery, and says it's indeed low. I asked for prices on a new one, but he pointed out that my current battery was under warranty from the place I bought it, so I should take it back. This alone is worth some stars because it saved $80, and was honest, but it gets better. Meanwhile, I looked down and saw my serpentine belt was broken in two! That's not good, and explains the rest of the problems with the AC and battery. To have the van towed and have even a cheap mechanic replace this would be $300 MINIMUM, and likely more. I bought a belt there for $12, and another O'Reilly guy helped me replace it. He looked up the diagram (it wasn't under the hood like usual) and loaned me the tools. Within 45 minutes or less, I was back on the road and all is good. So what could have been a day or two without the van and $380+, turned into $12 (plus what I tipped the guy on the side) in under an hour. If I need any auto parts or advice, there's only one place I'm going henceforth!
