Baby mama drama, legal trouble, help winning the lottery, etc. Some of them are printed on the jar but other signs are taped onto the jar (a little low-rent for my tastes). Room for improvement includes pricing all the candles. I picked one up without a price tag and it was $8 when I got to the register, when I saw many others priced around $6 or $7. It was a gift for a friend so not a big deal. Discount Candles is a really fun shop whether you believe the hullabaloo or not. They offer a wide variety of candles, incense and oils to choose from, and they've got a large (free!) parking lot to the right of the store for your convenience. I settled for the Cinnamon one and I think a lemony scent. And the best thing? The pricing. The candles run about $8, not too bad for a handmade soy wax candle (much better than the pish they sell in the mall). There was not enough customers within the store to not have an associate straightening and greeting guests. By the time I made it to the back of the store I finally found the associates. No one said hello to me or any of the guests who trickled in because they were too worried about their conversations. One associate was even shilling for her own personal classroom scents while starting to put away product. The prices are average and surprised they don't have some of the everyday promotions that used to be available few years. But I understand things change. Though customer service should still be a priority.

Everything is reasonable priced. The staff is more than equipped to handle any questions; it's a pleasure talking with people who are into what you're into. When I requested a refund they said because the product had been used they couldn't accept (of course they've been used, I attempted to burn the candles, which ultimately wouldn't burn). It was so much fun to sit at the mini bar and munch on appetizers while making our candles. The staff was awesome and helped each of us through each step, which was lots of work for such a large group! They took the time to help us mix and choose our scents and the candles smell awesome! The only problem occurred after we got our candles home and started to burn them. We paid extra to get the Fire Glass/Crystal candles. When we finished they were gorgeous! But once got home and we lit our candles, the Fire Glass started sinking into the wax. After blowing out the candle and it cooled, you could no longer see the Fire Glass! The only way to see it is to light it again, but it no longer sparkles like it did when we first made the candle. This is such a disappointment! We all wish that they had let us know this would happen, before we all paid the extra $$ for the Fire Glass!

During a recent visit to complete our annual Christmas candle shopping, my wife, children, and I had a highly unprofessional experience involving an employee named Amanda. When we asked basic customer service questions--specifically about available gift sets and whether we could check out--we were met with unnecessary rudeness and dismissive behavior. Her words and actions made it clear that we were unwelcome in the store. This visit occurred within the final hour before closing, which may explain the treatment we received, but regardless of timing, customers should not be made to feel unwelcome or uncomfortable for asking routine questions. Unfortunately, the issue did not end there. Several days later, we contacted the store to report our experience. Amanda answered the phone and stated that there was no one overseeing management at the location and refused to provide contact information for any supervisor or corporate office. My wife did not identify herself during this call, so there was no indication that Amanda knew she was speaking with the same customer from the prior visit. On a subsequent call, I again spoke with Amanda and was provided a generic Gmail address as the only point of contact for someone allegedly overseeing the location. During this same conversation, Amanda stated she was working alone, which was later determined to be untrue, as the individual whose email address she provided was physically present in the store at that time. Eventually, I did receive a callback from the individual currently overseeing the store. I was informed that the store manager was terminated earlier this year and the position has not been filled. Despite assuming managerial duties, this individual stated he is not authorized to coach employees, address performance concerns, or take corrective action. No apology was offered for our in-store experience. Additionally, I was informed that there are no formal processes or training in place at this location related to customer sensitivity, diversity awareness, emergency situations, or incident escalation to corporate leadership. This lack of oversight and structure is concerning from both a customer service and safety standpoint. Based on this experience, it appears there is little to no accountability or management oversight at this location. As a result, I cannot recommend shopping here and will not be returning.

And that is putting it mildly. My family and I were treated as almost an inconvenience, which is terribly sad as this is one of our favorite places to shop for candles and Christmas. I have worked retail/customer service since I was 16, I have dealt with everything under the sun you can think of. Our very normal shopping experience is not one that I would even remember in all my years. It is not one I could even recall. Especially with a small family business such as Swan Creek, you would think they value any and everyone coming in to spend their hard earned money on their products. One of their employees clearly felt otherwise and in front of my children made an (extremely uncomfortable to say the least) scene. Trying to talk to anyone since this incident has been like pulling teeth. I understand policies must be in place, but it has been made very clear that they do not have any procedures in place to handle something like this. Which is wonderful on one hand, meaning they don't often deal with this, and horrible on the other hand because it leaves customers on their own, with zero support from a small family business. All we asked for was follow up on training for employees, and an apology. I have never left a negative review in my life, but since no one would like to address this issue, it feels like my only resort. I'm not sure why, but I still have faith that maybe someone higher up will follow through, however it has not happened yet.
