One of my coworkers always raves about Moo Thru, so when I got a chance to visit with a group of…read moreveterans on a motorcycle ride, I decided to join in. Although it was crowded when we arrived, they had plenty of parking in the back of their lot. We grabbed a table under a tree to provide some shade and went to order. Despite the long line, it moved very quickly. When we got up to the front, the cashier asked if we were veterans, seeing everyone wearing their combat service affiliations for the rider's group. For ease of ordering, we put everything on one tab, and were absolutely amazed by the incredibly generous military discount! (The group was truly touched, so thank you very much to Moo Thru for honoring their service.) The ice cream was delivered to us from the back window. It was delicious!! The ice cream was so creamy, and I could eat a whole gallon of the cookies & cream. While it's a bit of a hike for me to get to Moo Thru, it's definitely worth the distance, and I look forward to my next visit!

This place has an impressive exterior and plenty of space for parking and seating. This place is clearly set-up for delicious cold treats including ice cream and sundaes. Which, we definitely should have gotten instead of hot dogs. It's not that they were bad...they were fine, but really, only fine. Each one came in a big bag and took lots of time between each one that we got. If I had to guess they are microwaved and they only put one hot dog in the microwave at a time, maybe? We tried to spice things up with their fancy grilled cheese. It was good but also...just good. We should have gotten ice cream, we have regrets. But I definitely wouldn't return for any of their lunch items.

I stumbled upon this place somewhat randomly after detouring various ways through rural Virginia,…read moreand this town which I wasn't familiar with is a vibe. In addition to this old-timey frozen custard stand, there was a nearby Civil War park and confederate cemetery, a church next to a cornfield, and I passed an old junker of a car nearby with a sign saying that it had no airbags so the inhabitants could "die like men". If you're coming from DC as I am, this is a different world. And in that vein, I'm always a little mixed on frozen custard as I don't do a lot of eggs and the flavors are often limited. This place offers items outside of custard, but nothing that I'd want. But I chose to stop here so I'm going to rate the place. Having said that, I found that they offered a seasonal pumpkin flavor which could be ordered as a swirl, and doing that got me as good of a flavor as I could have hoped for. In addition to a subtle pumpkin note, it was thick and rich, and the price for the portion will suit a hungry traveler or a local. And you can eat outside with a view of some farmland and mountains nearby. It's not far from the highway, so potentially worth considering for many who travel through the area. I don't have much in common with the locals who were eating beside me, but we can all enjoy a good ice cream.

The wait staff knew everyone but me but that's ok because I am not local. I hear them chatting with customers about the weather, hunting, and local events. Felt nice and homey inside. Food came incredibly fast. The service is quick and friendly. My food showed up about 4 minutes after I ordered. Maybe I got someone else's order but it was what I wanted so I dug in. The gravy is homemade. I can tell because I make it at home. Eggs were perfect for over easy. Always hesitant when I say over easy because the whites are usually runny when ordered anywhere else. Not this time. Whites were just barely cooked which is perfect. The home fries were rough cut irregular sizes which tells me they are fresh and not from a bag. It's a basic diner with great food and service. Add home cooking and you have a great place to eat. I will be returning.

In this Kline's there was 1) vanilla ice cream, 2) soda, and 3) chocolate syrup. Nope. The nice attendants were so sorry - truly. They were sweet and kind. They wanted to make us happy. But "the system" won't allow it. No matter what we suggested. Then my companion said "this has been my favorite thing at Kline's ever since I started coming here." Nope. I was enjoying my hot fudge sundae as I watch this sad story unfold. It turned into sand in my mouth. I threw it away. I offered five dollars cash for a shot of chocolate syrup. Nope. Nope, nope, nope. We won't be back. Kline's, when you let your "system" defeat your excellent staff's very best efforts to make a customer happy, you have defeated yourself. You may want to return to your roots and values with which John and Grover Kline built this business. Get the MBA out of the driver's seat. You may "take the quality of the ice cream very seriously."
